**Annual Committee Report AGM 2nd November 2023** Welcome to this years AGM and thank you for attending. Once again I’d like to thank the Committee and Staff for all their hard work over the past year, which has been a very busy and challenging year. We started off in September 2022 with healthy numbers of children, recovering well from the impact of the pandemic, when some families were hesitant to send their children to pre-school because of the risks of covid infections on their wider family, and more parents working from home and therefore needing reduced childcare. Our new children quickly settled into the pre-school routine. Our covid generation have been severely impacted by social limitations, particularly affecting their social skills and speech and language, and we are still seeing the impact of this on some of our youngest children. However, we have had numerous positive reports from families on the difference pre-school has made to their children. As the Winter season approached the UKHSA warned all early years and school settings that winter illnesses, including COVID and Scarlet fever, were continuing to circulate at high levels and to remain vigilant to minimise the spread of infection. Fortunately, we had minimal cases of Strep A and no spread amongst our pre-school children. As Christmas approached and the children and staff started practising the songs for the Nativity, our wonderful Committee were busy behind the scenes organising the raffle prizes, tombola gifts and refreshments for the day, along with Santa letters, they raised an outstanding £1151.00, beating the previous years total. The children in the Nativity were amazing as usual and made us very proud. We were lucky enough with the help of a couple of our Dads, to replace the taps in the bathroom and replace all the lighting with more eco friendly LED’s. Nikki and her Dad did us a huge favour and cut back the trees over hanging the garden, with the hope that we don’t get so many berries in the autumn. During the Spring Term, Nicki Keightley, the manager, faced some health challenges and needed some time off for surgery but Vicky Foster, the deputy manager managed pre-school faultlessly in her absence with the support of the staff. In the Spring we utilised £800 of funds from our Early Years Collaboration to purchase sensory equipment to support our SEND children in the setting. In May we celebrated the King’s Coronation, the staff were very inventive with their ideas, we even had our very own Buckingham Palace and parade along the Mall. The summer term was busy as usual, with over 20 new children to enrol, there was also lots of children going off to visit their chosen schools and lots of ‘big school’ teachers visiting the children in our setting. Our risers this year were able to say goodbye to the staff and all their friends with an emotional party at Larkabouts, lots of fun was also had. We have returned for the new school year with lots of new children and very few sessions available for children. We look forward to working with our new committee for the benefit of all our children. ## **Katherine Wheel Pre-school Holding Trustees Report October 2023** The building was inspected on 30th October 2023. Interior: The interior of the building is in good condition, looking attractive and welcoming. The following items were noted:- 1. Condensation on the windows continues to be an issue in cold weather. The adjacent wall areas should be monitored for any adverse effects. Exterior: The exterior of the building is in an excellent condition with all walls having been replaced over the last few years.. On inspecting the exterior the following items are noted as needing work to be carried out in the near future:- 2. Fire Risk - there is a pile of branches and twigs between the pre-school building and the west wall of the school swimming pool which should be removed to prevent any risk of a fire being started by intruders. 3. The cherry tree on school land adjacent to the south wall of the pre-school building has grown considerably and now overhangs the building by a good 3 metres. It needs cutting back so as not to damage the roof. We suggest that preschool offers to organise and pay for the work needed so as to maintain a good relationship with the school. 4. There is also a self-seeded sapling close to the south wall which needs removing by the gardener on his next visit. He has been doing an excellent job in maintaining the grounds the building sits in and on, as well as keeping the along the path clear for parents and children to access the building. We would remind the committee that any major expenditure on the building should be discussed with the trustees prior to agreeing a contract i.e. any works likely to cost more than £1000 should have our approval. Overall the building and surrounding area is in excellent condition thanks to the continuous monitoring and work carried out to maintain it by the committee, staff and parents. Our thanks to all who contribute their time and skills in ensuring the building is here for children to continue to benefit from in future and enable the staff to continue to provide their excellent high level of provision.
