## The Prometheus Trust Chairman’s Report 2020-21

The Prometheus Trust has had a relatively quiet year as the covid crisis continues to disrupt events and make planning ahead very difficult. However a range of activities have been developed via the use of Zoom and this has certainly extended our reach beyond the confines of the UK.

## **Publishing**

The Trust has ensured that its publications remain available - 3 Thomas Taylor Series volumes have been reprinted with enhancements and updates; 4 other books have been reprinted. One new book has been added to our catalogue: _Plato in Late Antiquity_ - another in our series of anthologies published in association with the International Society of Neoplatonic Studies.

Having typeset in to Word most of the Thomas Taylor Series over the last year, we are now gradually running through the 10 volumes of Aristotle typesetting in Word and inserting Bekker margin markers: once complete we will have all 33 volumes of the Series in a modern format, so that future reprinting will be possible with the minimum of labour.

We hope that the proposed new editorial board will come into operation this year, and lead the way to a major expansion of our catalogue.

Booksales are now at record levels.

## **Education**

All face to face activities were cancelled this year, and we are still not clear as to when these will be resumed. The project to lead a series of Zoom session through the 10 dialogues of the Late Platonic Academies’ “first cycle” of studies begun last year has been completed and we have been encouraged by the number of new contacts made around the world. We expect to build on this with several zoom-based courses planned for the first half of the coming Trust year: a further cause for optimism is that two fine scholars (one from Canada, the other from Finland) have volunteered to help with these.

## **Conference**

Our annual conference was once again cancelled due to covid restrictions. We are planning to resume in the summer of 2022, circumstances permitting.

## **Public Benefit**

The above activities are considered to be of public benefit and pursued in fulfilment of the Trust’s stated purposes: all our zoom courses are offered free of charge, and we price our books to ensure that they are within the reach of ordinary students.

## **The Trust**

The Trust continues to develop good connections with the wider community of those involved with the furtherance of good philosophy, despite the difficulties brought about by the pandemic. In such times the apparent stability of the material world is exposed and the value of the true stability of _real being_ as explored by philosophy is shown in a clearer light.
