Secondary school their parents may ch005e. Gayhurst's highest prior7ty is the safety and
welfare of its community, and we apply an unwavering commitment to safeguard its pupils to
all our decisions and actic￿s.
Gayhurst strives for all children to reach their highest academic standards while ensuring the
development of well-rounded individuats are confident, irKlependent and resilient. Pw)iis
are encouraged to take part in a WTde range of extracurricular actTvities to enrich their
broader education and personal development.

The school has met its objectives for 2024125 as outlined in the revie+V of performance and
achievements section of this report.

Thi5 academic year saw a change of leadership. as Gareth Davie5 left Gayhurst School after
almost nine years as Head. The Board has invited application5 for the role of Head from
internal and external candidates and expects to complete the selection and appointment
process by the end of the autumn term, 2025.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
The governors confirm that they have complied with the duty in Secti￿ 4 of the Charitie5 Acl
2011 to have due regard to public benefit gLrida￿e published by the Charity Commission in
determining the activities undertaken by the charity.
The schcol is cofflmitted to the concepts of access aThJ ¢Jpportunity for public benefit iti
the last year the school provided means-tested support for 9 pupils lirKluding 2 who were
displaced from Ukraine by warl who otherwise wtyjld not have been able to acce5S the school's
provision, to the value of £146,1XJ).
Beyond the benefit of providing a hTqh-quallty ed￿atIon to all the pupils of Gayhurst khool,
which equips them with skTILs for their future. the schcM)l also provided wider public benefit
throLFgh partnerships with ILKal state schools and ¢JJr local community. Gayhurst has enjoyed
creating events and new opportunities to w¢yk with our neightK)uring schools and communlties.
The school. staff and PLpib continue to work hard to 5￿pOrt local Comny￿ItY and
charities in many different ways including:

Gayhurst continues to be used as an exam centre for LAMDA by local children from
other schools.

RISK MANAGEIAENT
The governor5 have a duty to identify and rewew the risks to which the schcrf)l is exwsed and
to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provbde reasonable assurance against fraud and
error. The governors assess the major risks to which the school is exposed and are satisfied
that systems are In place to manage exposure to these risks. Risk management is a matter of
on-going policy and govemors continue to keep the 5chwl'5 exposure to these rlsks under
review. The risk management documentatlon Is revtewed at every committee and updated at
least annually.
Responsibllity for identified risks remains a standlng item on appropriate governor
5ubcomm?ttee agendas. thereby ensuring a dedicated fccus on risk5 arKI controls.

External Fartors -The risks retating to the"impact of VAT on sclwl fee5 and1055 of charity tax
benefits are monitored aThJ considered in future planning for the School. The school continues
to work with the Indepwdent Schools Council. ISBA and other representative bodies in
response to the tax changes Implemented by the Labwr g¢)vernment. The governors a￿1 senior
leadership monitor the economic climate and market competitivene55 and consider the effect5
of Inflation, interest rate changes and a potential drop in pupil numbers in budgeting and
forward planning Kenarios. The risk of cyber-attack is addressed through staff training and
working with IT contractors to minTmise the likelihood a￿1 severity.
Flnanclal rlsks - the sctr*x)I continues to monTtor the ongoing implications of the application of
VAT to school fees and recovery of VAT on expenditure, loss of busi￿5 rates relief and
increased employrnent costs, focusing on the affordability of fees. The subsequent risk to the
school is a reduction in pupil numbers and an increase in bad debts. Costs continue to be
réoulariy reviewed and cost pressures arising from extemal factors are ident?fied at an early
stage and managed a5 far a5 Possible by the preparation and control of school bLKlgets
involving budget holders acros5 the school. The 5chwl aims to ensure timely collectlon of fee
income and management of debtor5 to mTnlmlse losses.
. The risk of harm - this is addressed through maintaining and implementlng robust
safeguarding. child protection, safer recruitment and health and safety pollcles practices.
A health and safety consultant is engaged to provide professional oversight and gLridance.
There is a focus on awareness by all. regular training frx all staff and regular review meetings
of the safeguarding and health and safety teams.

Regulatory compliance 15 ensured by rewew and update of all school policie5 on a
predetermlned cycle and checking of implementation by 5enTor staff and governo￿.
Rlsk of buslne5s Interruptlon through critical incidents 15 managed. where it can be, through
risk assessments and regular preventative health and safety checks. An emergency plan is in
place to provide guidance on to deal with. and minimise, the impact of external critical
incidents.
REVIEW OF ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The 2024-25 academic year was arwxher strong and s￿(eSsI￿1 chapter in the life of the schwl.
Despite the intrcxluction of VAT on s(￿Y)1 fees, pupil numbers remained robust, and we
continued to lead the way I￿allY in co-education. A major mllestone was the opening of our
new facilities-including the Sports Hall. AL#litorium, changing rooms. 5taffroom and dance
Studio, as well as the new entrance and foyer-which are already having a positive impact on
school life.

The school was once again awarded Green Flag status. recognising our ongoing
commitment to 5UStainability and environmental awarenes5.
Our Harvest coLlection of 630kg of was the single largest donati￿ to our Iccal

These achievements sit alc￿9s?de the many regular leatures of sch￿1 life-. Prod￿¢1￿5,
concerts, carol semces, assemblies, charity events. LK¥)k fairs. 5POrt5 fixture5 and fflore-all of
which contribute to the rich and varied ed￿ational experience we offer. Our pupils continue
to embrace these opportunities Wlth wthusiasm. developing both academically and personally.
Our Year 6 pupils were well prepared for a wide range of senior school destinations. with 7¢YA
of those securing places at independent schcds.
Charitable giving remained a strong feature of School life. Pupits and familie5 5UPPQrted a
range of causes thr¢)ugh donations of fo￿. clothing and tOy5, as well as fundraising for
organisations yJch as Children in Need, the Royal British Legion, Slough Food Bank, The Great
British Bark Off arKI Macmillan. The Gayhurst Parents Association {GPAI also played a key role.
with the Summer Fair standing out as a highlight. Their f￿)draiSing efforts help*d part.f￿d a
new adventure play4fowKI. which 15 noFrt in use.
Our COntrit￿tion ro the wider community wa5 equally significant. We h05ted a Large cros5-
country event, several rugby toumaments. and a rnaths competition for local schc¢Jls. The
school also welcome¢J external candi¢Jates for L￿aDA exam5. SUPPOrted tx)lice dog training,
and provided facilities for Ifxal ftX)tball and tenni5 groups. A new gym cl￿> ha5 been launched

by an external provider, marking the beginning of a broader strategy to maximise the use of
c4Jr new facTlities. Additionally. wr school choir and parent ccffnfflunity choir performed at a
local feast day> further strengthening ccmnmunity ties.
These highlights are just a snapshot of a year that reflects the schcd's commitment to
dellvering a well-rounded. ambitious education. Our focus remains firmly on enriching
learning, nurturing pastoral care. and supporting the personal development of every child.

REVIEW OF FINANCIAL ACTivmES
The Finance & General Purposes Committee Supervises the schTh)I's financial affairs and meets at
least once each term. The comm?ttee liaises closely with the School's Bursar who is responsible
for the day.to.day management of the 5cknI's finances. A target fcK financial perfomiance has
been set for net incomirffg resources (excluding donations) to be in the range of 4% to 8% of total
annual fee income. .In the year ended 31st August 2025 the figure was £103.639 or 2% of fee
income, down from £3CQ,520 or 6% of fee income in the year to 31 August 2024. Whilst this 75
below the long-standing target, it 15 a positive result in a year when VAT has been applied to fees.

The Khool'5 banking arrange￿￿ts continue to (perate satisfactorlly. A new loan of E4.3m was
agreed with the school's bank to fund the building projett aThl draw down began in October

management of debtor5 and minimal outstand7ng fees.
Reserves and Financial Health
The govemors, policy Is to maTntain free re5erve5 (fwds not designated or tled up In flxed assets)
through annual surpluses to supwt the development of the school and its charitable purpose.
Reserves may be used to fund speafic project5 alongside an appropriate and prudent level of
borrowings If necessary. The schwl currently has total unrestricted f￿dS (excluding de51gnated
fund51 of £8.405.511 12024.. £8,301.8721.
FLrruRE PLANS
The governlng board wlll supwrt the Head, the Senior Leadership Team and the staff in delivering
the sch(K)I's aims and UFdated strategic objectives offering a broad. high quality education to
children in Nursery to Year 6. The schwl will c￿tinUe to proThte the values arKJ benefits of co-
education for primary aged pupil5.
Pupais will continue to benefit fmm enriched learning to develop c(¥)fidence. Independence and
resilience a5 core values that are promoted In all aspect5 of the education at Gayhurst. The
enrichment programme will continue to offer WTde and varied opportunities to cater for the
learning need5. interests skill devel¢wment of all pupils. Sports, creative and performing art5
will continue to be valued as key components of the broad education Gayhurst offers and the new
5POrts hall, auditorium and associated facilities will further enhance th7S.
The wellbeing of pupils will continue to be pron¥)ted. taught. and embedded into the
comprehensive pastoral supp)rt provided. School policies and all other documentati¢)n wrll
continue to be reviewed by the Head, the SenTor Leadership Team, and govenx)rs to ensure
ongoing compliance arKI implementation.

The charity Is registered with the Fundraising Regulator and has appointed a professlonal
fundraiser. During the autuffln of 2024, a small intemal fundraising appeal was conducted to
engage key stakeholders a5 part of an initial participatory campalqn. No furnjraising complaint5
were ieceived during the year ended 31 August 2025.
