Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the Polish University Abroad

I report on the accounts of The Polish University Abroad for the year ended 31[st] August 2025, which are set out on pages 4 -9.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner.

The charity’ Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under Section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 and that an independent examination is sufficient.

Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. The examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and in comparison, of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a “true and fair view” and report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Structure, governance and management

The charity is an academic institution of higher education governed by a declaration of Trust dated 7[th] January 1988 as amended at the EGM of 26[th] June 1990 and at the EGM of 23[rd] August 2021 (uploaded on 10[th] December 2021).

The charity is managed by the Board of Trustees in all administrative matters. The University’s Senate is responsible for academic matters with overall oversight and control exercised by the Board of Trustees.

The AGM of the Board of Trustees receives the Rector’s annual report and reviews and approves all activities and plans of the University.

The Senate consists of the following:

The Rector, elected by the Senate members

The Deputy Rectors, elected by the Senate members

Deans, elected by their faculties

Two delegates from each Unit, elected by their faculties

The Secretary

There are four principal Academic Departments

Faculty of Social Science

Humanities

Institute of European Culture

Institute of Technical Sciences

According to the University Statute other departments may be created by the Senate if needed.

Administrative matters are handled by the Administration Department, chaired by the Rector, which consists of:

The University has no special arrangements with any other charities.

The Board of Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the University is exposed and is satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to major risks.

Objectives and Activities

The principal activity of the charity is that of an educational establishment, providing education in particular to students of Polish origin, by means permitted by charity law.

Achievements and Performance

Regular courses were run by PUNO as in the previous years. In addition, the following events took place:

The Polish University Abroad received much support from volunteers including our professors, lecturers and friends.

Future Strategy

The charity plans to continue the activities as outlined in its objectives.

Financial Review

During the year donations of £ 9,645 were received from Polish community and from Polish organisations.

Basis of preparation of accounts

The Trustees have resolved that the accounts do not need to be audited, there is no provision in the Statute of the University requiring such an audit and no such audit has been requested. Additionally, the Trustees have resolved that to minimise administration, the Receipts and Payments basis of preparing the accounts should be used.

Related Party Transactions

No Trustees or any person connected with the Trustees has received any remuneration related to trustees’ duties for the year directly or indirectly from the charity funds.

Independent Examination

The Trustees agreed to the engagement of Mr K Muraszko to act as Independent Examiner of the Charity on a pro bono basis.
