Crowthorne Community Minibus – Chairman’s Charity Report 2022.

_______________________________________________________________

This is the first public AGM we have held since the pandemic took over all our lives. As you all know the bus was off the road for some eighteen months, safely parked at Wellington College. However, we were able to resume our programme of trips in August 2021. Bearing in mind we were off the road for so long, we were delighted with the response we received from our

passengers, who were happy to be back and enjoying trips out with their friends.

Every Sunday the bus provides transport for the combined churches of Crowthorne when we collect passengers and take them to different churches around the village. We provide the bus three days a month to both Crowthorne and Sandhurst Stroke Clubs and this year we have provided transport to Pinehurst Care home to enable them to take their residents out on day trips which without a minibus with special accessibility they would just not be able to leave the home. We will again this year be providing transport for the Crowthorne Carnival which is on Saturday 2[nd] July.

The everyday programme for our 180 registered passengers has proved to be as popular as ever with very many trips again being oversubscribed.

Our fundraising has been looked after this year by my Vice Chairman Peter Hattersley and we have had another excellent year with the two major projects during the year. The very popular Jazz Concert held at Wellington College and our 100 club,

I have always described our bus as a social amenity bus which serves the elderly and disabled residents of the village and indeed you must be a local Crowthorne resident to qualify to register as a passenger. The bus is of course fully accessible with a tail lift which enables us to transport wheelchair passengers who need this facility to travel on the bus. As you can imagine all this requires a good deal of resource to keep the bus on the road, as well as

our 16 drivers we have 10 committee members who all have a specific job to do. To enable us to offer this pretty unique service to the village everyone involved in running the charity is a volunteer, we have no paid staff, no offices and apart from keeping the bus on the road no large costs. You will see from the accounts that we have large reserves, which have accumulated during and before lockdown, this is because of two substantial legacies left to us. This created us with a dilemma as both were given on the understanding that the monies would benefit the charity and our passengers. The trustees thought long and hard about this, as we have a relatively new bus with very low mileage which certainly will not need to be replaced for some years. Finally, we made the decision to truly benefit our passengers by giving everyone who books on our bus free transport. This will allow us to justify to the Charity Commission that we are using our reserves wisely.

This brings me nicely onto to offering my personal thanks to all our trustees, drivers and volunteers for the outstanding support they have given over the last few years, the bus offers a lifeline to so many elderly and disabled residents of Crowthorne and has done for so very many years. It has been a delight and a privilege to be the Chairman of such a wonderful organisation.

David Hobbs - Chairman
