THE TRUSTEES, REPORT
As always, the main activity of the year were the regionèl syn￿5. The coming tryjether of the brethren in
prayw, reflettion ond hospitality is at the core of our Society. The Midland5 Synod was held at S. Mary de
Castro, Leicester on Founder's Day. Attendance wa5 Particularly g(y)d for thi5 Synod. The South-west Synod
was hosted by S.Peter's Pwmouth on the 14th May. This wa5 a good Synod, but with slightly disappointing
attendance, The Northen Synod was held at S,ColumtK, AJlieSd on the 18th June and the London Syn(KJ Irhe
Charity AGMI was held at S.Michael and All Ange15, Croydon. Thls too was very well attended.
All rhe Synods had Fr leremy Sheehy add￿Ssing them (whether on paper or in person) on the 1700th
annlversary of council of Nicèea. In his usual fashlon Fr Sheehy was able to comblne serious reflertion with
hufflour and the brethren app￿CIated hi5 erudition.
As is customary, Arta, the magazine of the Soclety, was printed twi￿ in the year, at F￿nderS Day and at
Assumptionthde.
The Society'5 Mission Committee was active meeting twi￿ In the year to discuss Missil￿ and to consider grants

TRUSTEES, REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 310ECEMBER 2025
The Mission Committee continue5 to find ways to support the brethren in missKJnal attivity. Income for Mission
Direct was £10,506, helwl in part by the decision to print tollettion boxes and urge parishes to support Mission
Direct in Lent. Some E7,300 was colletted by parishes compared to £730 the prevKJus year. It remains the
policy of the Socth that every rèised for Mission Direct will go in grants, and any 5UPfY)rt costs or costs
of raising funds come from the S￿Iety's general fund rather than restncted Mission Dlrert m￿les.
From General Funds a grant was given to the Walsingham College Trust of £4,000 to support the YoL5th
Pilgrimage, and a 5rn311 donation is made of £25 to SPUC. The Master General made a donaty'on of £100 to the
Diocese of Ho In Ghana to pay lor Universalis subS￿lpt1Orns for pamchial clergy.
Expenditure of £54,504 was made versLJS income of £36,953. Initially this seems concerning, bul this partly
nvolves some £15,395 of purchases for r￿ale. This involved a new batch of stoles and a series of SSC cr05se9
in a variety of styles and SI￿$. It should be noted that these lory term wlll yield a srnall surplus. There wa5
also significant expenditure in the Master General's vigit to the Diocese of Ho with another brother. This Was to
setup a small new chapter in that Diocese wh5ch lor the time being will remain under the authority of the
Provin￿ of England and Scotland
The Masters Council, on behalf of the Trustees, reviewed the ScKiety's Investments, CU￿ntIV held in two
accounts In the CCLA C8F Investment Fund (Income). They noted that these had almost reCoVe￿d their
previous year5, k)55es. The Master's Council in investments See￿ to balance incotne with capital growth, along
with an understanding that monies are appropriatew invested. It judges the COIF income funds as
commensurate with that èlm.
In late 2025 it Was decided that In light of the Bishop of Oswestry's ca11 for Catho1it knEties to exarlline their
governance, SSC would move from a model of four Trustees to the whole of the Master's Council being as
Trusrees. It was felt that this would avoid duplicatson, and widen those involved in the governance of the
Society. As of December 2025 there were ten tnjstees with other5 Still needing to sign their paperwork and be
formally apwinted. In terTns of GOverTran￿, SSC is unique In that it is completely democratic, and a new
Provincial Master can be picked every four years, and strirt term limits exist.
Expen5e5 IroTn the General Fund. totalling £5,557 IQ,61712024 were reimbursed to 8 Trustees14 in 20231 In
relation to travel, hospitalify and function of office. The Master General wa5 reimbursed E5,021 from his
trirted fund in ￿latiOn to travel, h05Pltality and function of office, this rnostly belng hls wsit to the Oiocese
of Ho in Ghana.
The majority of the Socletv's Ilfe is lived the varioLJ5 thapters throughout the country. TIEse continue to
m￿t monthly or bi-monthly and to 5UPPOrt the brethren by means that are both spiritual and temporal. The
Master contiTrue5 his visits to various chapiers around the country to uphold and assist them in their keeping
oFthe rule arKI their corntnon life together. The reports delivered at Synod and Master's Council by the chapters,
are critical in helping the Master and his councll engage with and understand the needs of the brethren.
The Society of the HO￿ Cross conty'nues to be the oldest and orwJinal Society in the Church ol England lor
priests who live and work urtder RuEe. Lt exists to Increase the spirituality of the clergy, SUPFOrting them in all
matters spiritual and temporal, and to support them in preaching, teachlng and living the Catholic faith in their
parlshes, to evangelise the people, and to work for the eventual reunion of all thristians.
