Aims of the Soclety
The Society is governed under the statutes adopted in 1981 and has as its charitable objects..
To strengthen and consolidate the spirrtual life of ils members according lo Catholic belief and practice.
To maintain and extend the Catholic faith and discipline. and to defend truth against error.
To unite ils members in a special tM)rKI of muiual tharity arising from their c￿mMOn faith.
Statement on Public Benefrt
In settTng objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have gwen due tx)nsideration lo general guidance
published by the Gharity Commission relating to public benefrt. including the guidance 'Public benefrt.. running a
charity IPB21'. In this year the Society has continued lo support the spiritual lrfe of ils members through Chapters.
The Synod held in London provided a particular time of support and encouragement to the brethren. The Master, his
Council. Regional and Local Vicar5 have continued to assist Ihe brethren of the Society in their live5 as priests in all
thing5 spintual and temporal. Grants of £4.450 were made through Mission Direct to assist particular missionary
activity. The majority of the merTbbers are engaged in parish work. often in dis8dv8ntaged locations. As members of

the established Church. all vthhout exception. are free to (*ll on their SeThI￿s and frequenuy do. The Society
supports them in this work.
Ri$k Management
The tnjstees condud an annual survey of the significant risks to which Ihe Society might be expjsed. They are
currently satssfied that adequate controls a￿ in ￿8¢e.
The Trustees. Report
The main evenl of the year was the National Sywj held on the 2P September 2023. held at st Mary Bryan51on
Square. This was well attended with Mass. Lunch and the Synod. The Syncmfj was addressed by Joy Gilliver, Head of
Discernment al the Church of England. who swke ab(MJl the discernment pr(Kess & Fr Robin Ward SSC. who spoke
on Vincent de Paul. 8rother Michael JacL)b SSF gave a devots.onal add￿$$ lo the brethren. As always reports from
the offi￿rS were made before Ihe pax was given.
As is customary, Acta, the magazine of the ScrAety, was printed Iwice in the year. al F￿nderS Day and at
Assumplionlide.
The Swety's Mission Committee was active and grants totslling some £4,450 were made lo a variety of causes and
activities. enabling small level Mission work lo be urKJertaken. The Mission Committee continues to find ways lo
support the brethren in Mis￿Onal activity
Significant expenditure of £34,621 wa5 made verse5 income of £29,233. In part this was due to the fact that National
Synods held in London are always expensive. Despite spending outslripping inC￿e, the inuease in investment
value meant a positive balance Sheet at the end of Ihe year
The Masters Council. ty) behalf of the Trustees. reviewed the &￿ie￿$ invesknents, currenuy held in h¥0 accounts in
the CCLA CBF Investment Fund Iln(xJmel. They noted that these had almost recovered their Pfevious years losses
Expenses tolalling £2,275 were reirnbuv5ed to 3 Trustee5 in relats"L￿ lo trdvel, hospitality and function of office.
The majority ol the Society's life is lived in the various chapters thrOug￿Ut the county. These continue lo meet
monthly or bi-rnonlhly and lo support the bfethren by means thal are both spiritual and temporal. The Master
continues his visits to various chapters around the country to uphcAd and assisl them in their keeping of the rule and
their common life together. The re￿rtS the various thapters provide. are uitical in helping the Master and his ¢OUnGiI
engage vAth, and understand the needs of the brelhren.
The Soaety of the Holy Cross continues tole the (Adest and original S￿ty in the Church of England forpriests
who live and work uoder Rule. 11 èxists to increase the.spirittJality of the clergy and lo sutjport thèm in preaéhino.
teathing and living the Catholic faith in their parishes, lo evangelise the people, and to work for the eventual reunion
of all Christians.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees
I report to the Trustees on my examination ofthe accounts of Societss Sanrtae Crucis (The Society of the Holy
Crossl for Ihe year ended 31 St De￿mber 2023 which are set out on pages 7 10 13.
Responsibilib"es and basis of the report.
As Trustees of the Society you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance wjth the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 {Ihe Act'l and Ihe SORP Accounting and Reporting by Charities.
My examination was carried oul in a￿ordan￿ with the General Directions given by the Chafrty Commission. An
examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts
presented with those records. It also includes considerab.on of any unusual rtems or disclosures in the accounts and
the seeking of explanatsons from the Tnjstees o)nceming such matters. The procedures undertaken lo not provide
all the evidence that would be required In an audit and consequenuy no opinion is given as to whether the accounts
present 8 'lrue and fair view. and the reF(rt is limrted to those matters set out In the statement below.

I have no concems and have come across no matters in connectHin with the examination to which attentson should

Accounting Pdicies
1.1 Basls of preparatlon of flnanclal statefflonts
The financi81 s18tefnents have been prepared in ac£ordance wilh the accounting policies set out in the notes to
the accounts and comply with the charity's governing dccument, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and
Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to chanties preparing accounts in
accordance with the applicable FinancBI Reporting Standard apFAicable in the UK and Ireland {FRS 102).
1.2 Funds Accountlng
General fvnds are unrestricted funds which are availabFe for use at the discretion of the Tnjstees in furtherance
of the general objectives of the charity and which have nol teen designated for specrfic purposes. Assets and
Liabilities are attributed to appropriate funds.
Restricted and Endowment Funds are those to be used in accordance wth the specific requirements of the
donors or which have been raised by the chanty for particular purposes. The costs of raising and administering
such funds are charged against the spectfic fvnd. The aim and use of each restricted fund and the endowment
lund is sel out below.
Thè Master General's Fund- These are westricted fijnds COnth"but￿ by the Frowr￿S of Wales. The Arnericas,
Australasia, and England and ScotlaThJ to be spent by the Master General in work.
Mission Oirect- These a￿ restn.cted fijnds to stwt missi￿ actiwtses as recommended by the
Mission Committee in o)nsuttation vnth the Masterfs Couwl.
Mission Direct Endowment- This is an en(k)rt fvnd set up using existirrfJ reSt￿ted Mission Direct ￿1￿1￿$
to provide an ongoing irm thè making of grants by the MissKJn Direcl Committee.
The Provincial Master's Discretionary Fund- These are restriGted mnies to be S￿nI by the Provincknil
Master ol EngLqnd and S¢ol18nd as he sees frt. within the aims ol the Charity-
The SSC Conforence5 and Synod5 Fund- These are mrx)ies gNen f(w Conferen￿ and training, such as
'Leading your Churd) into growth.. 'Stand up for Jesus. and Synods.
The G8ft•ral Fund- TIE5e are UnreStr￿ted mon*s, whith may be ynt by the provir￿ of England and
Scotland as wiJir8(1.
1.3 Incomlng Resources
All incoming resources are recognized where the charity ts legalty entrtled to the income and the arrN)unt can be
quantified wrth reasonable accuracy.
1.4 Resources Expended
All expenditure is aecounted for on an accnjals basis and has been induded under expense categories that
aggregate all cost5 for allocation to the relevant actTVtties. Where (xjsls cannol be diredy attributed lo particu18r
activities they have been allocated on a basis consistent with the use of the resources.
1.5 Investments
Investments are staled at market value, any adjustment to the previous years. foqures being stated in the
Stalemenl of Financial Activities. following the Master's Council's review.
1.6 Reserv8$
The Society maintains Reserves of at least six nK)nths worth of monies. required to hjnd the activitie5 of the
Society.
