Trustees report for year ended 31 March 2023
Fortunately, a hirer now uses the Centre during the daytime Monday to Friday and this is
proving a good source of income. Dancers still use the Centre on Mondays and others are
beginning to hire the Centre once again with bingo is still proving popular on a monthly
basis. The Committee are moving fonNard with plans for new chairs for the Centre and for
modernisation of the kitchen and toilets, both being in dire need of modernisation and
upgrading.
This year saw the celebration of Queen Elizabeth 2nd's Platinum Jubilee for which the
Centre held a public event. It proved that very few who attended had witnessed the Queen's
coronation in June 1953 and even fewer when she took over from her late father, King
George Vl, in February 1952. Many of those who fought for a Community Centre in
Micklefield following the late Queen's Silverjubilee are sadly no longer with us.
A highly successful event was organised by one of the local Polish community and many
motorcyclists and their followers turned up one Sunday to enjoy a drink from the bar and a
feast outside. This is an event well worth repeating.
Looking back to when the Centre had been opened, many of those present have since died
or moved away and new, preferably younger. members could join and, indeed, at the 2023
Annual General Meeting this is exactly what happened.
It is hoped that new Committee Members will help invigorate the Community Centre and
help in refreshing the Centre in the coming year. New people bring new ideas and the next
Annual Report will be able to focu5 on achievements and a refresh of the Community
Centre.
2024 will mark some 35 years since the Centre was opened and after a few lean years when
Covid restrictions forced closure and changed peoples. routines, l am confident that the
Centre will go from strength to strength provided adequate funds are forthcoming and even
more fresh faces are welcomed to the Committee.
With new Committee Members on board with new ideas and enthusiasm, l am sure the
Centre will be refreshed in time to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
