## **Objectives and Activities**
For the purposes of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of Harting without distinction of political religious or other options including use for meetings lectures and classes and for other forms of recreation and leisure time occupations with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

## **Additional information**
The Charity is not a grant making charity or involved in social investment. The Charity is run by a Community Hall Committee (CHC) which is made up of volunteers and the Harting Parish Council acting as the Sole Managing Trustee is also made up of volunteers. The Charity has one employee who is the Hall’s caretaker.
## **Achievements and Performance**
The last year has been another year of progress for the Hall with usage levels holding up, further refurbishment projects, continued development of our ‘Harting Film Night’ activities and progress on our solar project with the valuable assistance of Harting CAN. Despite increases in many of our overheads and other costs, we have not increased our charges, and a small profit was made for the year.
The most visible signs of the refurbishment are the enhancements of the bar and further upgrading of the audio systems, the latter thanks to the further generous support of the Harting Society. Also further upgrading of the old upstairs committee room, now called The Humphrey Sladden Room, to further enhance it as a small flexible and well-equipped room available for hire and the showing of films and running courses, such as a very popular Wine
A i ti C ith Ni l J h Hill M f bi h t i th t f th H ll i l d i th The continued development of the Harting Film Nights with the successful introduction of Glyndebourne Opera evenings where everyone brings a picnic and more recently an Inde Film Night in the Humphrey Sladden Room. These are as well as the regular monthly Film Nights, the afternoon showings of Art films in the Humphrey Sladden Room and the very popular National Theatre Live showings. This has led to a welcomed increase in the Hall’s income and is very instrumental in the Hall making a small profit.
Although this is a positive picture, the future holds many challenges with continued inflationary pressures and retaining our regular users and attracting new users and activities, as well as maintaining and refurbishing a building that is beginning to show its age and in places wear out. It is against this background that the Solar Project which we have developed with Harting CAN is so important. The project is to substantially increase our solar power capacity and so generate a significant and stable income for the Hall which will then allow us to remove our dependence on oil. We have made significant progress in gaining planning permission, obtaining quotes and securing substantial financial backing from the Harting Parish Council, although this will still mean that we must raise further funds over the next year, but we hope to tie up the last loose ends shortly and be able to proceed. This should be a game changer for the Hall’s longer term financial security.

Reserves Policy
The Charit(s current policy is to hold all its funds in cash at the Natwest Bank.
At the year end the Charity had £8.938 in a Separate Natwest deposit account from its day-to-day banking account. This

The Charity 15 governed by a Lease and Trust Deed dated 10 November 1986 35 amended on 9 Decernber 2022.
The Ch3rlty has a Solè Managin8 Trustee ISMTI which is undertaken by The Harting Parish Courbcil IHPCI. The
membership. therefore. of tho SMT is that of the HPC. The SMT appoints a Community Hall Committee to Provide the
day to day management of rhe Chariiy and the hall.
The lease which the Charity has on the Community Hall building is held on the Charitvs behalf by the Official Custodi3r¢
for Charities. The freehold of the building is owned by The Harting Parish COUClI.

Respective responsibilities
of Trustees and Examiner.. The charity's trusiees are responsible for the preparation of
the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year
under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Actl and that an independent
examination is required.
It is my responsibililyto:
1. Examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act
2. To follow procedures laid down in the general Directions given bythe Charity
Commission lun(ier section 1451511bl of the Charities Act, and
3. To state whether particular malter5 have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's Statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the
Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept
by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also
includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosure in the accounts and seeking
explanations from the trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken
do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. and consequently no
opinion is given as the whether the accounts present a "true and fair" view and the
report is limited to ihose matters set out in the statement below.
