Structure Governance & Management

The Charity is constituted as an Association and is governed by its Constitution as adopted on 12 June 1986 and amended on 23 April 2015.

Trustees are appointed by election and no payment for any services were made to any trustees.

Objectives and Activities

The Charity’s purpose, as set out in its governing document, is to advance the education of pupils at Roundwood Primary School through the improvement of their educational environment. This objective underpins all of the Charity’s work and provides the framework within which the trustees operate.

In pursuit of this purpose, the trustees focus on fundraising to provide facilities and resources for education that are not otherwise available through statutory funding. These efforts are intended to benefit all current and future pupils of Roundwood Primary School. At committee meetings, the trustees regularly review the Charity’s activities and keep in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, ensuring that projects and services deliver meaningful improvements for the school community.

The trustees confirm that they have had full regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when exercising their powers and duties.

Achievements and Performance

Over the past year, the Charity has run a varied and successful programme of fundraising activities, bringing together pupils, parents, and the wider school community. Highlights included the Summer and Christmas fairs, a sponsored walk, quiz night, discos, and the ever-popular Popcorn and PJ evenings. In addition, the option for parents to make regular donations has ensured a reliable source of support throughout the year.

The funds raised have been used to deliver improvements that make a direct difference to the day-today experience of pupils at Roundwood Primary School. Significant achievements include improvements to the Nursery outdoor provision, a new sound system in the hall, phonics training for staff, a new Gazebo in the KS1 playground and a replacement table tennis table in the KS2 playground amongst other items. As in previous years, we also continued to provide a committed annual investment of £19,000 spread across the school academic year which the school uses to enhance curriculum delivery, music provision, and the school library—enhancing both the quality of learning and the richness of the wider educational environment.

Collectively, these achievements reflect the commitment of the trustees, parents, and community to ensuring that every child at the school benefits from opportunities and resources that go beyond what statutory funding alone can provide.

Financial review

At the end of the financial year, the Charity held cash reserves of £47,381, of which £13,403 has been committed for payment to the school in the next financial year. The Committee considers the Charity to be in a sound financial position, with sufficient resources to meet its short-term commitments and to respond promptly to suitable funding opportunities for the benefit of the school. The financial position is reviewed regularly to ensure funds are used efficiently and in line with the Charity’s objectives.

The Committee has also reviewed the level of cash reserves required by the Charity. It is the Committee’s opinion that the majority of cash held should be applied to the development of the school as soon as an appropriate project arises. As the Charity relies on income from events and donations, a minimum reserve of £5,000 is maintained to ensure that ongoing commitments to the school can be met. Furthermore, the Committee will only authorise expenditure if sufficient funds are available.

During the year, the Charity did not hold funds in deficit, either during the financial period or at the balance sheet date. There are no uncertainties about the Charity’s ability to continue as a going concern.

Declarations
