The charity comprises Honorary Officers, Annual Subscribers and Playing How the charity is constituted Members. The Charity exists to promote the musical education of the inhabitants of Royal Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding area, through the study and practice of orchestral music, in order to foster public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance.

The Charity put on its regular season of six orchestral concerts in Tunbridge Wells. Two free chamber concerts were also scheduled during the summer, one of which included a presentation on the history of the French horn. Members of the Orchestra again visited The Rosewood School, a Kent County Council residential unit for teenagers with severe mental health problems. A performance and subsequent workshop were presented to residents and staff in July. The Charity’s Education Officer held workshops in two local primary schools, with children drawn from 4 different schools in the area. 13 **Summary of the main** volunteers from the orchestra joined with pupils, music teachers and **activities undertaken for the** other staff to rehearse and perform a specially arranged piece from the **public benefit in relation to** RTWSO repertoire. Our Trustees have remained mindful of Charity Commission guidance on what constitutes public benefit, and have continued to seek ways to widen access to orchestral and classical music in the Tunbridge Wells area, in line with the Charity’s core objectives.

All our Trustees and player members are volunteers, some acting in a professional capacity – for example, negotiation with soloists of performance contracts, or placing advertising in local media.
In addition to the player members, the orchestra also contracts professional players on a concert-by-concert basis to make up the full symphony orchestra as required by the programme chosen.
Four Trustees also serve as directors of RTWSO Productions Ltd, a company established in 2018 to administer production expenses.

||This was the first season to be directed by our new Music Director, Peter
Selwyn. The orchestra performed its regular series of 6 concerts from
October through to April, with a renowned soloist performing at 5 of the
concerts. Where the repertoire chosen was felt to be new to the
audience, Peter gave short introductions to the pieces, and these were
very well received.
Alongside two retirements at the Charity AGM, two new Trustees were
recruited, both existing player members. The new Trustees were
inducted at a meeting early in the year, at which a review was made of all
the Charity policies and the Orchestra committee structure.
Representatives of the Charity attended events by other musical groups
in the area, with the aim of sharing information and ideas. The Orchestra
also fielded a team in the community fundraising Dragon Boat Race
organised by the Tonbridge Lions. A number of new players joined the
Orchestra during the season, and we also welcomed a new volunteer
Concert Day Manager, who has made a great contribution to the smooth
running of performances.|

||Our principal sources of funds are revenue from ticket sales and
donations from Friends, patrons and other supporters. We also benefit
from Orchestra Tax Relief. Box Office sales were down year on year,
particularly season ticket sales, but the final concert of the year was our
second highest seller since covid, which is something to build on.
The Friends of RTWSO kindly donated £3000 towards the cost of our
summer events, and our Fundraising Quiz in May also generated nearly
£2000. We end the season with reserves a little higher than in recent
times, so are well placed for the year ahead.
The ‘restricted funds’ section of our accounts relates to donations made
specifically for the furtherance of our Education Outreach activities.|
