Kings School Association

Accounts for the Association for the year ended 31 July 2022

Report by the Independent Examiner

I have complied the accounts as presented to the AGM from the underlying financial records and bank statements of the Association, as kept by Vikki Browning.

My report and the scope of my work is covered on page 2 of the accounts.

I would like to bring the following matters to the attention of the AGM:

- The income of the charity is detailed in note 5, on page 7, of the accounts. The specific donations continue to be made up from the following sources.

      - Monthly amounts paid by parents, guardians and supports of the school by way of unrestricted donations.

      - Income from the 100 club which operates a monthly prize draw.

      - Other donations received at school events supported by the Charity.

      - o Commissions from spending on websites such as Amazon via their “Smile Club”

   - Other income streams from specific events have returned this year after covid restrictions prevented the Charity from staging such events last year. These events were historically well supported and create significant income for the Charity.

- Direct charitable costs are those cost incurred by the Charity in bringing about the income received from specific events and donations. The costs are in line with those seen in previous years when these events were last staged. The costs in relation to Specific Donations are the prizes paid from the 100 club and associated lottery license.

- Administrative expenses have risen this year with the addition of bank charges. These appear to be around the use of credit card machines and not in relation to the day to day bank account of the charity.

- On 31 July there were no debtors and no creditors. A creditor of £35 owing to one of the past Trustees for costs of the Charity has been written off to donations in the year. This money was owed to Jane Lamprey and has been carried over since 2020.

- The Charity was able to make donations of £589 in line with its objectives to Kings School. These donations were in relation to a netball kit purchased.

- On 31 July 2022 the Charity had unrestricted reserves of £31,305.

- The main asset of the Charity, included within these reserves, is the bank balance of £31,082.

In closing I would like to address the unrestricted reserves of the Charity at present. It is always hard for any charity to strike a balance between deployment of reserves, to meet the charitable aims of the organisation, and financial prudence. Such prudence is needed to ensure the organisation can continue to exist when income and expenditure are uncertain or subject to change, or when cash funds are needed to meet upfront costs of future events from which income is derived. It is the Trustees responsibility to ensure that these 2 conflicting objectives are managed.

I consider that the unrestricted reserves of this Charity are excessive at present. I am sure the Charity is doing all it can to identify projects that it can support in line with the wishes of the Kings School. I hope that during this coming year the Trustees and Members are successful in choosing projects to support and getting these resources mobilised. To this end I hope the management of the School recognise the role they need to play in identify projects which meet the objectives of the Association while benefiting as many of the school community as possible.

There are no further matters I wish to bring to the attention of the AGM.
