Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document	Para 1.17	To enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by: (a) offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups, together with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion, means or ability; (b) encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas; (c) instigating and adhering to and furthering the aims and objects of the Pre-school Learning Alliance
Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts.	Para 1.17 and 1.19	The charity runs a pre-school within a small village in a semi-rural location for children from the age of 2 years to statutory school age. The children have access to a range of daily activities, indoors and outdoors. There are structured activities within the day as well as opportunities for the children to select their own activities from the range on offer. The preschool aims to provide quality, individualised childcare meeting the standards set by Ofsted and within statutory guidelines for the Early Years Foundation Stage. The pre-school has close links with the village primary school as well as taking part in co-operative fundraising events with other charities within the community. The charity works hard to ensure that young families feel part of the pre-school and to strengthen bonds with the wider community. Family members and other members of the community are

		welcome to volunteer within the pre-school (subject to relevant safeguards being put in place) and throughout the year various events take place which they are invited to attend.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	The trustees of the charity were pleased to have another strong year in terms of numbers on the roll. Covid-19 affected most of the community events during the first half of the year however the pre-school was excited to take part in the Beenham scarecrow competition with the theme being key workers. The pre-school children were invited to enter a photo or draw or paint a picture for the 2022 Beenham calendar competition. The pre-school were excited to enter and delighted to win first prize in the age 0-6 category of Beenham in Bloom. It was a wonderful effort and everyone got really involved.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period	Para 1.21	Financially the charity had another strong year. The amount of fee-paying children increased in the setting and so had a very large positive impact on the income. Staff costs naturally increased with more children in the setting and having a full year of additional cleaning costs due to Covid- 19.

		Costs (other than staff costs) were generally lower than we would have expected due to having to postpose play sessions such as Pop Up Play due to Covid-19.
Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held	Para 1.22	The charity has considered the need to maintain a reserve fund to provide contingency against fluctuations in income as a result of naturally occurring peaks and troughs in the number of children attending the setting and also to cover redundancies / payment in lieu of notice in the event that the preschool closed. .
