HACS Chair's Re
Ort 202412025
When I took over as chair from Nomian Cooker in 20111 had no idea I'd still be in
post 14 years later. This will now be my final report as chair. Thank you all for
bearing with me for so long. Some of the events that have occurred during this time
include the panic over rising fuel costs in 2015, the Covid years of 2020121, when
several stalwart volunteers continued to drive people to hospital, the Blakeney
Masonic Lodge nominating us as their chosen charity, and our 40 anniversary
celebration. The highlight of my time in post was of course when we received the
Queen's Award for Voluntary service, which was a huge honour for us all.
It has actually been a very enjoyable time, especially knowing that the Holt Area
Caring Society is still fulfilling a vital service to local people. The number of thanks
we receive is heart-warming and I'm sure as volunteer drivers you get pleasure from
taking grateful people who you may otherwise would never have met. Essentially we
contribute to the wider conununity cohesion which exists in Holt and surrounding
villages, and I feel we should be very proud of that.
Of course it is absolutely down to our drivers, and I sincerely want to thank you all
for the time, care and commitment you have given and continue to give. I would also
like to acknowledge the supportive role that drivers, partners fulfil. Many thanks to
you.
We have lost five drivers this year - Francis Mixer, Barry and Gill Pilgrim, Rosemary
Thew and Nigel Jenney, who sadly died recently. Many thanks go to them for their
work. I'm pleased to welcome Mark Treadwell, James Quick and Rachel Nicole as
new drivers. We currently have 45 drivers on our list, though some of those are not
regular drivers. So we are always keen to recruit new people - if you know anyone
who you think might join up, please encourage them.
Huge thanks once again go to Liz and Rachel, our wonderful co-ordinators, who
organise us all in the calmest possible way.
I'd also like to express my thanks to our committee members for their continuing
interest and support, and for our cheerful meetings.
The topic of DBS'S has been discussed again, as this is very important for the
safeguarding of vulnerable people, and I'm pleased to say that Liz Brett and Julie
Lewis are taking this on board.
We have once again agreed that all drivers may have their car washed or valeted,
spending up to £45 per year. Please send receipts to Liz with your time sheet.

Glaven Caring in Blakeney, who offer friendly day-care facilities and a good lunch to
clients, have asked us to distribute their infonnation to anyone we might think would
be interested. The leaflets are here for you to take.
Geoff Peel has kindly agreed to audit our accounts, for which we are grateful. He has
also put in a lot of extra work helping Liz Brett to get to grips with the appropriate
software and with the accounts. Many thanks Geoff. We would like to show our
appreciation for your time and effort.
Some of you may be wondering how Holt Caring can continue without a chair. Well,
I am extremely delighted to tell you that one of our drivers, Duncan Henderson, has
agreed to be nominated as chaimian. A little bit later we will have the chance to vote
him in. I know he will be excellent and I've a feeling there will be some much
needed tightening up of things, which is all to the good, especially these day5.
So the future feels good and the good work will contlnue.
Many thanks to you all.
Peta Benson
