HACS Chainnan's Report 2024 I welcome you all to our 45 AGM. Thank you for coming, as there are not many opportunities when we meet each other. I'm pleased to Teport we've had another stress-free year, which is almost entirely due to our fantastic volunteer drivers. So thank you very much indeed for your time, care and reliability. We really couldn't run the organisation without you. Three drivers left last year: Yvonne Pointen, Rene Kennett and Stefan Elliott, and we thank them for many years of service. Three new drivers have arrived, namely Tony Leach, Robin Parry and Sara Fry, who we welcome warn]ly. Last year, following some generous legacies, it was decided to reduce our charges for long journeys. However, as our treasurer will explain, the number of legacies has drastically dropped. Therefore we feel it is pnjdent to return to charging 50p per mile for all trips and for our minimum charge to be £5.) We still have discretion if someone genuinely can't afford the fare. It Is important that all drivers have a DBS check, as we are in contact with vulnerable clients. Julia Peart and Julie Lewis will be contacting everyone before too long, with instructions about what documents to bring. As of last year, drlvers can still get their cars cleaned for up to £45 per year. Just add it to your time-sheet5 and it will be reimbursed. Some car schemes in other parts of the county ask their drivers in their 80s to do a driver's assessment. Our committee doesn't want to insist on this, but may I commend it to anyone who is interested to contact GOLD (Guidance for older drivers), as it helps you to continue driving safely for as long as possible. It consists of about one hour's drive with an assessor, it is infom]al and confidential, and costs £39. It may even help to reduce one's insurance. Just a reminder on insurance - each year we need to tell our insurers that we take passengers on a voluntary basis. Most insuTers dont make an extra charge, but they do like to know. I'd like to take this opportunity, on behalf of us all, to sincerely thank Liz and Rachel for their constant efforts to find drivers, while always staying cheerful. Huge thanks to both of you. Geoff Peel, our treasurer, has decided to resign from the committee after several years of excellent work. We are extremely grateful for everything he has done and wish him all the very best in the fijture. I'm really pleased to report that Liz Brett, who is one of our drivers, has agreed to take on the treasurer's job. The committee has agreed the post requires an honorarium, like our co-ordinators receive, as it requires continuous work, week by week. Thank you Liz, for filling the important breach. (We'll vote Liz into post in a little while, and will also vote to change the Santander Bank signatory from Geoff Peel to Liz Brett.) We have recently heard that the Blakeney surgery is definitely closing. This has been a painful time for people in Blakeney, but we shall do our best to keep driving patients to where they need to go. Thank you.
