HOLDING TRUSTEES, AEPORT 2022
For as far back &8 I can remember there have been 3 holding trustees. The three trustees at
prasent are Vivienne Cottam. Ronnie Thornton and myself Diane Taylor. ￿ are responsible for the
playgroup building but also take a keen interest in all aSp￿S of playgroup's life. We attend
committee meetings and as we have been trustees for many years are able to provlde continuty
when discussing playgroup matters and historical issues.
The maintenance of the building is ongoing. The trustees cary out an annud insp8Ction each
Jmmer to highlight any general maintsnance issues. Last summer. a number of issuès were
identified resulting in higher than pm10￿ years maintenance costs:
. A leaking njof which had baèn an intermitt8nt problem for a number of years. L8ad flashing was
replaced. new PVC light oak facias to the front and back of the lantern facing sides, timber
frames within tl* lantem troat&l with premative, exterior glass resealed witlNn the lantem
area, ridge tiles r&bedded. crackedlsplit ridge tiles identified and reF)ointed.
LeakirwJ and Saggi￿ guttering and worn facias. The guttering was replac￿1 and the facias
rq)taced wtth PVC oak boardirKJ.
Inadequate lighting in the main room. 4 lights were upgraded to LED.
The playground gate was rotton. A new gate was made and frtted and the carpenter also carried
out repairs to the bike shed. He advised it was not viable to repair the smaller shed and ttms will
need replacing at some point in the future.
Following the annual safety inSp￿tion report of the out dcK)r play equlpment, 3 upright posts for
thè sandpit canopy V￿re found to be rotten. F>otton Timber. who originally made and donated the
canopy approximatety 15 years ago. agreed to supply 3 new posts at no cost but they were
unable to instdl them. Finding a contractor to install them proved problematic but over the
summer the repaits have been completed arKI it is hoped the sandpit construction will provide
many m(Ke years of shade for the children.
Other general maintenance over the past year has Includ￿ rprgluing and sealing the metal strip in
the children's. toilet doorway. resealing a section of the veranda matting. trimmirwJ the willow and
hedges and power washing the outdoor safety surface to remove the moss.
There are on-golng projects, which include replacing the trim trail. Some of timbers wwe
found to be rotting as flagged in the last safety inSp￿tion report. Tr existing trim trail is nearly
20 years old and it's replacement is a priority subject to,finding Suff￿lent funding. The trustees are
so considering how best to provide more shade in the summer arKI more shelter in rainlwirKty
weather. but these are ongoing projects, again subject to funding.
The trustees w¢yJld like to thank Cith and all the staff for their fantastic work over the past year
which has not baen easy post Covid. Th8 brilliant otsted inspection report is a testament to t
staffs dedication and hard work to make playgroup a worKSerful place. Our chairTnan. Heather
Pea￿on also deserves our thanks for steering playgroup through difficult tim65 during the past 2
years. supported by membws of the voluntary management committee.
Lastly Ronni8 arKJ I would like to thank Vlv for her hard work th enthusiasm during the past 17
years as a custodian tnjstee" tenacity to find reliable Contracto￿ to cary out the numerous
maintenance and capital proieGts. her literary skills hdping to revise and redraft playgroup's
constitLrtion and her vast experience in education assisting with staff appraisds and involvement
in the r￿rU[trn￿t process for a now manager in 2018. We are sad to see Viv leave this rde as
trustee but look forward to worf<irg wlth Patrick Tumer who has agreed to join playgroup as a new
trustee.
