CHURCH COUNCILANNUAL REPORT
The Church
Christchurch Abbeydale is a ¢hurch which is unlqu8 In Gloucestershire,
Local Ecumenical Partnetship ILEPI created and responsibl8 to
four denominations.. Church of England, Melhodisl, Unit6d Rèformed and Baptist.
Christchurch is a Church of England conventional district within the Gloucester City
Dèan6ry and Gloucester Diocese, it is a Methodist church wrf(hin thè GIouc8slérshire Circuit
and Brist¢l District, a United Reformèd church within the Gloucestershire Area of the
West Midlands Synod and a Baptist church within the West of England Baptist Association.
The Counc51
Th8 Council ar8 r&crutted from member5 of the church who have an interest and abilty in
advanang the aims and objectives of the church. The council and the officers
(except the minister) are elecl&d al The Annual General Meeting or cmpted during the year.
Organisational Structure
The minister, the officers and all Church Council members are Iruslees of the charity.
The council, chalred by the minister meets monthly and is responsible for the strategic
direction and pol*y of the Church. The Counul then take their reconNnendation$ to th8
church membership for approval at the quarterly Church meeting.
Alm and Purpose
Christchurch Abbeydale Church Council ICC) has the responsibility of co-operating with the
incumbent, the Révèrend Peter Clarkgon Sn promoting in our geographical aroa
la Conventional District to use the Church of England terni), the whole mission of the church.
P8Stordl, evangèlistic. Social and 8cumenical. The Conventiongl District occupies parts
of th6 parIS￿S of St Oswald Coney Hill and Sl Lawren￿ Bamwood.
We undertake work across thé entire neighbourhood, includlng a responsibility towards thos8
who are members of no church
Thè Church Council is also specifically responsible for the maintsnanc6 of the Church building
and grounds.
The ecumenical nature of the church, so foundational in ils inception, is reflected in the contact
with other church8s as people worship elsewhere, as different ministers gre welcomed to our
church and our minister vislts other pla￿S of worship. We work wilh our neighbouring churches
all of which promotes the work of meeting and rninislering to a widé cross sèction of our ar89.

Christchurch Abbeydale is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship al our
church and to becom6 part of our faith community. We seek to repres&nt thè Body of Christ in
Abbeydale and AbbeyTnead by the carfng and love shown to thos8 Wlthin th6 church family and
beyond to the whole community.
The trustees confim that they have complied with their duty in Section 4 of the Charflies Act
2006 to have due regard to public benefrt guidance published by thé Charity Commission for
England and Wa18S.

our four denominatK)nal heritage. Our members can belong to any of the denominations or non8.

our setvices can involve groups connected with our church
Our serVI￿S and worship put faith into practirR through prayer and s¢ripture, MUS￿ and
sacram8nt. Whèn planning our aOtiv￿e$ for the year, the incumbent and the Church Council try
to enable ordinary people to live out their faith as part of our Church community through:
Worship and prayer, learnlng aboLrt the Gospel, developing their knowledge and
trust in Jesus and supporting eaoh other as part of the family of God
Welcoming newcomèrs lo the chU￿h whether they come for one week or longer.
Provision of pastoral care for peop16 associated with thé Church andlor living localw.
Developing connections into our local community particulady the local schools
To f&ilitatè this work it is important Ihat we maintain th& fabric of th8 church building. th8
associated rooms and the area outside the church.
Achlevements and Performance
Worship and Prayer- The Church Counol are keen to offer a range of services during th9 week
and over the course of a year that are both beneficial and splritually fulfilling for all, For example,
the midweek communion seNice provides a smaller more inlimale, weekly opportunity to share
bread and wine, this service offers a quiet Spa￿ and is valued by those who regularly attend.
We continue to use worship material from various sourc&s r8fl8Cting our 8cum8nical ethos.
Our work wEek was carried out as usual with the required maintenanc9 of the building and
Surrounding ar8as, this was v8ry well supported.

Membershlp
During the year we had 78 m8mb8rs and 32 gdherents, the majorityof whom IN8 locally.
Th6 averag6 attendanc@ during the year was 52 and the attendance does vary particularfy
at religious periods like Easter and Christmas as well as Parade and Remembrance Se￿C@s.
Financial Review
The running cost of the church is met by the contrlbutlon of the members plus the gfft aid claimed
Other contributlons from fund raising by friends of Christchurch volunteers and m8mb8rs w6r8
great￿ appreciated, it has all allowed us to operate within our budg81. Th8 Church held a very
successful Gift Day when addltional don*ions were made.
The Baptist strategy Buildlng Schem8 has informéd us that a long térm liability exists in
the form of a Building Loan of £5,000 which was given when the church was built. This amount
only becomes repayable ff the church ceases to exist or moves from the buikiing. They howev8r
would like that liability to be shown in our accounts.
Resfrrves Pollcy
It is the Church Council's policy to maintain a balance on unrestricted funds (if funds permlt )
should equate to at least three monlhs unrestricted payments. This is foll¢)w7ng the
guidanc& suggested by th8 Charity Cornmission.
This unrestricted fund is to cover unexpected or emergency expenditure that may arise from time
to time. In 2025 thls fund should b6 £12,379 The balance of £20,509 held in the
(COIF Chariti8s Doposit Fund) at tha and of tha yaar, maalÈ this policy, logathar with £6,967
unrestiicted funds In the current account lo m6&1 immediate 8xp6nditur8.
The balance of £14,881 in the COIF Charities Property Fund is s restricted fund retained
towards meeling the cost of major building repairs that will be required to be undertaken on the
hurch. Athough not the legal owners of the land and building (this is held by Shared Churches
{Gloucesterl Ltd which was set up in 1989 for thls purposel, Christchurch Abbeydale carries
out repairing and maintenance In lieu of a annual rent.
We woth towards transferring £2,500 per annum to th8 COIF Charities Property Fund to meet
that responsibllrty.
