CHAIRS REPORT OCTOBER 14[th] 2024

This is a difficult report to write as I would like to say so many things, but don’t know where to start.

I could start with the traditional:

This report covers September 2023 to August 2024 and we have had Ben as our Music Director for 3 years and Jo as our accompanist for over 2½ years

At present our membership is around 93 members and we warmly welcome those who have joined during the past year.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I just want to say what a privilege and enjoyment it has been working on the committee for the past 5 years, and for being your Chair (I never liked the idea of being called Chairman, Chair-woman just doesn’t work, and Chair Person is beyond description, so Chair it has had to be!). It really has been a privilege. It was a steep learning curve, but both Yodah and Veronica gave me masses of advice and lists. I have made lots of lists for my successor! I love a list!

But honestly, it has been enjoyable – lots of work, but enjoyable. And any of my personal goals would not have been possible without the amazing committee we have. Emails and messages fly around at all times of the day – and night! And they have all worked hard, as a team and individually, to ensure the smooth running of our wonderful Chorus. A bit like a swan – massive paddling below the water, but a beautiful smooth glide showing to the world. My personal thanks to them all.

Our music making has just gone from strength to strength, thankfully due to Ben - and with you all turning up and making beautiful music. And Jo, you really are an amazing pianist; your talents have really shone, especially your playing of the Rutter – let alone all the help you quietly give us singers when we can’t quite find the right note. Thank you for all your hard work and wonderful piano-playing. We did miss you for a term, Jo, and are very glad to have you back with us.

And our dear Ben. What can I say other than thank you so much for your support, all the work that you do, and, if I may be so bold, your friendship. I will miss the odd messages from somewhere in the world reminding me of something that needs doing. And perhaps you will miss my nagging just a bit? You truly give all your talents for the benefit of this amazing Chorus, and I know none of us underestimates the time and work you put in. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

I really do feel honoured to have been Chair of KLFC and I thank all members of the chorus for giving me that opportunity. I must admit I am looking forward to relaxing into the music and just enjoying the concerts, without worrying about what I might have forgotten, and I am absolutely sure your new chair and committee will give their all to support Ben and all of you.

Thank you. Jan Willson
