## **KLFC - Chair’s Report - AGM – October 2[nd] 2023**

This report covers September 2022 to August 2023 and has seen Ben complete his second year as Music Director, and Jo as accompanist will have completed 19 months.

At present our membership is 94 members, and we warmly welcome those who have joined during the past year – we hope you are enjoying the music-making.

We have had a good year, and, with our hardworking and enthusiastic committee, our indomitable accompanist, and our doubly hardworking and enthusiastic Music Director, produced some wonderful concerts.

We started off the year by completing auditions for everyone and then headed into our rehearsals for The Messiah. It was a wonderful performance, but the train strike on the day of the concert caused stress not only to our MD but also to our Treasurer. But, despite all the problems, we performed a wonderful concert.

In the new year we had our Social Event, The Cabaret and Hog Roast. This was well attended, and some lovely and amusing show pieces were performed with our usual high standard – of course! Great fun was had by all. And the amount of wonderful food brought in by members was amazing.

In the new year we had the sadness and the privilege to sing at Grace’s memorial – to sing the pieces of music Grace had asked for, and to hear the pieces Ben played that she had also asked for. A time to remember a lovely lady.

February saw a new logo for King’s Lynn Festival Chorus, and in April Ben suggested to the committee the possibility of a choir tour. Exciting! This we are looking into.

April also saw our performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor which was so appreciated by our audience, and we received such a good crit from Andy Tyler. It was definitely a good hard sing, but so worth it.

And then, we all got stretched again, in a different direction, for the Gilbert & Sullivan. What fun we had. And so wonderfully well received by a huge audience. They enjoyed it as much as we did!

We have had a really good year, producing some wonderful music across a gamut of musical styles. Many thanks go to our committee – they really have worked hard – even across the summer hols. We have met 9 times through the year, always with delicious cake at the end of the meetings. And thanks to our publicity team of Helen and Gill, who have worked tirelessly at getting our concerts publicised across the county.

Our many thanks go to Jo for her amazing piano playing – I never quite know how she plays all four voice parts at the same time. And thank you, on the quiet, for giving us the odd note when we can’t find it!

And, of course, huge thanks to our wonderful MD, who not only takes the rehearsals and conducts the concerts (always with a smile), but also produces all the art work for the posters, all the wording for the programmes, sourcing and keeping in touch with all the musicians and soloists for our concerts, all the markings for the orchestral scores - so much more than we see. Thank you from us all.

So much goes on behind the scenes, but I must say, it is a privilege to work with such a good team.

Jan Willson, Chair of KLFC, 02/10/2023
