Chair’s report for AGM 10[th] October 2022

We made it back after Covid! And how wonderful that we all managed to keep together and emerge as such a strong, talented Chorus. You have all been so supportive and helpful during this committee’s first year, for which we thank you.

I have divided my report into three main areas: Achievements, Challenges and Plans.

Achievements

Challenges

We have achieved so much this last year, coming out of Covid and coming back with strength and enthusiasm, and we have had a few challenges

But I think the biggest challenge for us this last year has been a place to rehearse. We so wanted a constant place each week in which we could rehearse, which had proved a bit of a problem at Springwood, them having to move us around due to exams.

So we tried The Minster. The Minster did prove rather a challenge in seating, spreading out and hearing each other. But we got the work done! Again, many thanks to you all for persevering.

Nina, our Secretary, sadly had to give up her role due to health, and we thank her very much for all the work she did whilst in the post. I think she enjoyed it! Since then, different members of the committed have taken up different parts of her job, and I thank them very much too.

The committee have worked so well together this year, taking up different roles and looking at ways of promoting our wonderful Chorus. May I add a special thanks to Helen Lilley and Gill Daniels for taking on publicity from dear Grace, who, I know didn’t really want to give up but had to due to her health.

Plans

The committee have been looking at ways of promoting the Chorus and one of the areas we have been looking at is developing Friends of KLFC. We are looking at inviting membership on a 2-tier contribution level, offering them:

15% off ticket price; Priority seating at the front; Complementary program; Name in the program; Free interval drink; Access to invitation only rehearsal;

Invited to have drinks at the end of the concert with our Music Director, Ben Horden, and musicians.

In exchange we are asking them to:

promote our concerts to family, friends, associates, thereby increasing audience numbers; distribute leaflets and posters, and promote ticket sales; Identify potential sponsors, advertisers and advertising opportunities; Advice and active involvement in fund raising.

On the back of this we will be looking for Chorus Ambassadors to help host the Friends; we could possibly ask those who have been in the Chorus but are not singing at present. Or indeed anyone else you think would be good at that.

To conclude:

May I, on behalf of Kings Lynn Festival Chorus thank Ben and Jo for all their amazing work. Ben, what can I say; he just quietly slipped into the role of Music Director with his ultimate charm and wonderful musicianship and has taught us and brought us up to our brilliant standard and showed us what we can really achieve. Always with a smile!

And thank you Jo. We were so fortunate to be able to appoint you as our accompanist in January, and we are all still amazed at and admire your piano playing. And indeed, for your taking rehearsals in Ben’s absence – especially your amusing and novel approach to some of the phrases!

And may I, on behalf of myself, thank the committee for all their work, enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and wonderful cake at committee meetings.
