The Executlve Committee of Sus8ex Afaa Is made up of individual volunteers voted onto the
Executlve by Council. As well as belng the members of the Area Executive Commltteg, they are
also the Trustees of the charlty. Councll conslsts ol representatives from all member clubs
throughout Sussex. The members of those clubs are affiliated to the national organisation. i.e.
FAS INat¢onal Assocration of Flower Arrangemgnt Societies).
After the Exe¢Lrtlve, the prln¢lpal commRtee of Sussex Area Is the JDS&E committee, th8 Chalman
of whlch18 an Exècutivè Committee member and a trustee. The role of th18 committee Is lo be
responsible for the education and training of members in respect of the v8rkyJ8 di8CiPlin88, 1.
Judges, Demonslrdlors. Speakers and Educatson.
Sub-eommittees can be set up to organlstr events such as fl¢)wer festlvals, COmFed￿on8 otc. whlch
the general public are able to attend.
The oblects of Sussex Area are to advance publlc awarene88 and educ8tton in the art otftower
arranglng and related subjects In the Sussex Area and lo lurth8r 8ny other ¢harllable purpose or
purposes.

Throughout my thlrd year In offlce a5 Su55ex Area Chalman, I have much enjoyed contlnulng to
visit every club. It is with sadness though when I have had to report on the passing of long-
stsnding members who have given so much to their clubs and our area.
We remember wtth affertion Pat Wright (l￿le Common). Lyn Stratman {Bur8ess Hlll), Chrlstlne
Mitchell {Steynin81, Judy Grout (West Bo8norl, Janice Smith IWe5t Bognor), Joan Wright (West
Bognorl and Sue Oliver (Horsham).
Club Closure:
It was with a hea￿ heart that Worthing flO￿￿r club decided to close in January after 70 years.
Unfortunately, there wa5 no one who could take on any of the officer roles, Some of the

Area Days
We have held three Area Days this year, one belng Presidenvs Day. These days contlnue to be
very successbJl and well supported.
Area Show
This was our firstArea Showsince 2018 and waswell attended wlth many memberstsklng part In
the competition. A won(ierful demonstratlon in the afternoon was given by National
demonstrator, Chrlstopher whlte from Ireland. My thanks to Lesley Etherton {Competltlons
Secretary). Carol Lathlelff and Mar8aret Moores for all thelr help on the commlttee, to the
Executive, members of Henfield Flower Club and many other member5 from other clutss who
helped to make the show a success.
JDSE ¢ommlttee:
In October 2024. the commlttee contlnued the 5-week serles of Beginner Classes. which had
started In September. In Novemberchrlstlna Curtls and Unda Porretr ran a Jolnt Chrlstmas
workshop.
A multi4isclpllne refresher daywas held in March 2025 with Michael Bowyer. In April a workshop
was led by Elloulse Hasler-stott from Kent Floral Art at Broad OaK and a second &week 8e8lnners
2 serles of classes in April / May with Barbara Hoy as tutor. In July, Llnda Porrett led a Petlte
workshop in Thakeham.
Area Demonstratoys
Three Sussex members passed thelr demonstrators, test In June. Con8ratulatlons to Brenda Bull,
Mo Dorklng and Duncan Ward.
Natlonal Judge
Congratulatlon5 to Llnda Porrett who passed her Natlonal Judges, test In June.
Natlonal Show In fjloucqstor Cathedral-septemtser 2025

We tend to hold these twice a year- once in the spring and the other In the autumn, and they are
well attended.
Dlsafflllatlon
Followin8 an earlier member meetin8 in June this year, we held an EGM in Au8USt at which member
clubs Voted by a wlde rna￿1n for Sussex Area to dlsafflllate from NAFAS. Notlce was glven to NAFAS
followlng the decision at the EGM and we are now working towards a disaffiliation date of 315t
December 2025.
The Sussex Kldney Trust
Thi5 is a charity which wa5 founded in 1967 by the Sussex Area of NAFAS and it is still run by a
voluntary committee of our Area. Althou8h we are not In a position to give direct financial support, we
do give them every encouragement whenever the opportunlty arfses.
In November. we say goodbye to Vanessa (Jeffries), our Flower Arranger Officer and Jenny IFoster-
Smith). our Publicatlons OfFlcer who have both fully embraced thelr roles. We shall mlss them very
much a5 Part of the team.
I would Ilke to thank Ruth ICollingrid8el, our Area PresidenL for the support and encouragement she
