## **Welcome to the 2022 Croydon Performing Arts Festival**
Welcome to the CPAF syllabus for 2022 in our new date slots!
After two years of not being able to hold a festival, we are determined that the 2022 Festival will be a rewarding and worthwhile experience for everyone, be they performers, teachers, or audience. Whether this is your first performance in public or whether this is just another step along the road of gaining experience we welcome you.
Never ever be frightened of an audience because we always want you to do well, and we always notice and remember the good things about your performing. Remember also that we all perform better in front of a large audience so, with free admission, bring everyone you know to hear you.

## **Alan Brown**
Alan Brown went on from early festival successes and membership of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain to study piano and cello with Ruth Harte and Lilly Phillips at the Royal Academy of Music. While there, he won many prizes, was awarded the prestigious Recital Diploma, and was proclaimed National Most Promising Pianist of the Year. He was also a finalist in the Royal Overseas League and National Federation of Music Societies awards and winner of the Hastings National Concerto Competition.
Since his acclaimed Wigmore Hall début, Alan has appeared many times in London, at the Purcell Room and the Fairfield Halls, and at other venues throughout the United Kingdom and Europe, as well as the Channel Islands, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
Alan has a repertoire of more than 45 concertos, including several 20th-century British works, and he has premiered five concertos by John Rand. He has played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Virtuosi of England and other orchestras, working frequently with Arthur Davison and his son, Darrell. He is in great demand as duo partner to wind and string players, performing in many recitals, concerts and competitions in this country and in Germany. He has also performed the complete cycle of Beethoven piano and violin sonatas with Igor Ozim in Slovenia.
Alan gives much of his time to young students, and works as accompanist and coach at both the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In addition, he has a regular summer commitment to international violin courses, working with Igor Ozim in Weimar, Salzburg and Slovenia.
## **Craig White**
Craig White gained a BA in music at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, in 2005, where he was Répétiteur Scholar for New Chamber Opera. After a Postgraduate Diploma in Piano Accompaniment at the RAM, studying with Michael Dussek and Diana Ketler, he held a Junior Fellowship in Piano Accompaniment at the RCM. He is now an Associate of the RAM.
He made his Wigmore Hall debut in October 2010, with oboist James Turnbull. In 2011, he toured Japan with the soprano Erika Colon, and conducted London Youth Opera’s _The Magic Flute_ . In 2012, Craig won the accompanist prize at the centenary Kathleen Ferrier Awards, following accompanist prizes at the Thelma King Awards, Great Elm Vocal Awards and AESS Finals.

Craig has worked as official accompanist at the prestigious Kronberg Academy and Aix-enProvence Académie, collaborating with artists such as Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Waltraud Meier, Mihaela Martin and Donald Weilerstein.
In much demand as a chamber musician and accompanist for singers and instrumentalists, Craig spent 2015 living in Germany, working for the Köln Hochschule für Musik und Tanz. He also toured the UK with Russian violinist Adelia Myslov and appeared with Soprano Eleanor Dennis performing Mozart arias for BBC programme _The Joy of Mozart_ . Recently, he performed on Radio 3 in a live soundtrack performance of Daniel Elms’ “Bethia” as part of the Hull New Music Biennial.
Craig works every year as an official accompanist at the Schiermonnikoog Kamermuziek masterclasses in Holland, and the Rencontres Musicales Internationales D’Enghien in Belgium. In 2017, he adjudicated the Con Brio Piano Competition in Mumbai, India, and, for the past two years, has been official accompanist for the Voksenasen Masterclass series in Oslo, Norway. He is currently based at the RCM as the Adami Award Piano Accompaniment Fellow.

## **Adjudicator: Helen Deakin** GRSM LRAM ARCM PGCE
Helen studied piano and clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music, taking the instruments as joint first study. She has considerable experience of solo and choral singing, of both instrumental and choral directing, and of the string repertoire (her now grown-up sons were NYO violin and cello principals). She performs as a soloist and as an accompanist and with many chamber groups and orchestras, at venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, concerts at the Edinburgh Festival and at the Swan Theatre in
Stratford-upon-Avon.
As an ABRSM examiner, Helen has worked extensively throughout the UK and around the world, including in continental Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, New Zealand and the US.
In addition to examining, she is a regular presenter at the ABRSM annual conferences, and she has presented many workshop days across the UK.
As a member of the ABRSM Professional Development Panel, she has worked with instrumental teachers in the UK and overseas. Helen is an adjudicator member of the British and International Federation of Festivals, something she really enjoys.
Helen is a very experienced teacher and has run a flourishing private teaching practice for more than 25 years. She is much in demand, giving presentations and workshops on all aspects of performing and teaching.
Helen directs a series of chamber-music courses and runs workshops for both pianists and piano teachers, which have proved very popular.

## **GUITAR**

## **Adjudicator: Christopher Daly** LRAM CertEd Hon BA
Christopher began playing the guitar at the age of 17, having been inspired by a recital by the great Spanish virtuoso Andrés Segovia.
Christopher read divinity at King Alfred’s College (now the University of Winchester) and was awarded his Certificate in Education. Invited to join the staff of the Music School of Winchester College, he began to teach the guitar in 1970. In 1976, he was awarded his Licentiate Diploma by the Royal Academy of Music.
He continues to teach the guitar at all levels both in schools and privately, and performs from time to time with an emphasis on fine but lesser-known repertoire. He has also performed with singers and in chamber music. Christopher offers private tuition to students of all ages who are based in or near Poole, Dorset, UK.
Having for some years been a guitar specialist adjudicator, the British and International Federation of Festivals made Christopher a General Adjudicator in 2004.
In the same year, he was elected to the committee of the Lennox Berkeley Society, which exists to increase public awareness of Sir Lennox Berkeley’s music. He introduced a guitar award for the Society in 2010, and administers this in partnership with Oxford Music Festival. The award is now held by six outstanding young guitarists, with all three royal music colleges represented among them.
In April 2015, Christopher was awarded a Bachelor Degree of the University of Winchester, _Honoris Causa_ . Christopher is also a member of the Friends of Cathedral Music

## **Adjudicator: Jane Lister** MA (Cantab) LRAM Premier Prix Brussels PGCE
Jane has considerable experience as a teacher and adjudicator, teaching at Westminster School,Westminster Abbey Choir School, Roedean and Francis Holland School, as well as privately. Her students range from seven to 70. Having performed as a soloist and orchestral harpist all her life, the main focus of Jane’s work now is helping and teaching future generations of performers.
Jane has played with the major London and provincial orchestras, Glyndebourne Opera, Gothenberg Opera in Sweden, Garsington and played
regularly at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for opera and ballet.She has been invited to play with the World Orchestra for Peace on many occasions, as the British representative. She has accompanied many choirs, including those of St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Winchester Cathedral, Chichester Cathedral, and St Mary’s in Edinburgh, as well as the Finchley Childrens’ Choir and the Vienna Boys’ Choir. Jane is also at home playing solo programmes or light background music.

## **Adjudicator: Malcolm Ball** LRAM RSM
Malcolm Ball began his music education by studying piano to diploma level and later orchestration and arranging. He studied electronic music and composition at the Royal College of Music where he became interested in percussion. This led to special projects in Eastern music (Indonesian gamelan, African, Indian and Japanese) and from then he became increasingly involved in percussion as a performer and has developed an extensive background in classical, rock and contemporary music.
Malcolm began teaching at the Redbridge Music School, London, in 1985 giving many lecture recitals in all aspects of percussion both oriental and occidental, which has included recital/demonstrations with Evelyn Glennie. In 1986, he was appointed percussion examiner for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and is now Supervising Examiner and Instrumental Advisor for Trinity College London where, from 2007, he has contributed to and compiled several past percussion and drum-kit syllabuses, presenting many seminars around the UK and the Far East. He engaged the services of drummers including Dave Weckl, Mark Schulman, Peter Erskine, Ralph Salmins, Paul Clavis and more, all of whom contributed to the original syllabus.
His work as examiner has taken him to many overseas centres including Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia, India and the Middle East.
He has continued to work in many theatre productions and concerts with such names as Simon Callow, Kate O Mara, and the Scarborough Spa Orchestra and in venues including London’s South Bank and Ronnie Scott’s Club. In 1994, he took part in the western world première of Moscow Cheryomushki, a musical by Shostakovitch at the Lyric Theatre, London.
As a composer, Malcolm has written in many genres and his piece Star Song for choir and small ensemble was performed at the Royal Albert Hall as part of a Christmas Celebrity Concert in 1995.
He is a specialist on the music of Olivier Messiaen and maintains the composers’ website at www.oliviermessiaen.org. He is also one of only a few exponents in the UK of the Ondes Martenot an early electronic keyboard instrument developed in France. www.malcolmball.co.uk

Kathryn studied at the Royal College of Music and went to Canada on a Menuhin Scholarship. She has given more than 20 recitals at the South Bank and Wigmore Hall, both as soloist and chamber-music pianist. She has toured Norway, Italy, Ireland and Australia, where she gave seven recitals at the Sydney Festival and broadcast for ABC.
At home, she has performed at many of the leading music festivals and has given numerous live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3. TV work has ranged from a live recital from Paris on CNN to the Korean broadcasting network, several performances on Irish TV and a much-treasured Blue Peter badge.
Kathryn is also an adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals.

## **Adjudicator: Christopher Daly** LRAM CertEd Hon BA
Christopher began playing the guitar at the age of 17, having been inspired by a recital by the great Spanish virtuoso Andrés Segovia.
Christopher read divinity at King Alfred’s College (now the University of Winchester) and was awarded his Certificate in Education. Invited to join the staff of the Music School of Winchester College, he began to teach the guitar in 1970. In 1976, he was awarded his Licentiate Diploma by the Royal Academy of Music.
He continues to teach the guitar at all levels both in schools and privately, and performs from time to time with an emphasis on fine but lesser-known repertoire. He has also performed with singers and in chamber music. Christopher offers private tuition to students of all ages who are based in or near Poole, Dorset, UK.
Having for some years been a guitar specialist adjudicator, the British and International Federation of Festivals made Christopher a General Adjudicator in 2004.
In the same year, he was elected to the committee of the Lennox Berkeley Society, which exists to increase public awareness of Sir Lennox Berkeley’s music. He introduced a guitar award for the Society in 2010, and administers this in partnership with Oxford Music Festival. The award is now held by six outstanding young guitarists, with all three royal music colleges represented among them.
In April 2015, Christopher was awarded a Bachelor Degree of the University of Winchester, _Honoris Causa_ . Christopher is also a member of the Friends of Cathedral Music

Since graduating, she has travelled extensively, performing both as a soloist and as a chamber musician and has appeared as a concerto soloist at the major London Concert Halls.
She has made numerous recordings for Sony BMG and Universal and is a vocal soloist on EMI's Vocalise album as used in trailers for _ER_ , _Lost_ and _Grey’s Anatomy_ . She appears as the featured soloist on many film soundtracks and her solo piano playing of the theme from _Chariots of Fire_ was heard at every medal ceremony at the London Olympic Games. Belinda is also in demand as a vocal coach for classical, pop and rock singers and runs an extensive private teaching practice. She has trained performers as diverse as Siouxsie Sioux, Jennifer Ellison, Jack Garrett, Cathy Tyson, the Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche, as well as the world-renowned dancer Akram Khan. Her students are enjoying major roles in theatre companies up and down the country as well as West End Shows such as _Chicago_ , _Dreamgirls_ , _Haddestown_ , _Dirty Dancing_ , _Book of Mormon_ and _High School Musical_ and two hit TV series, _Downton Abbey_ and _Broadchurch_ .

Vijay Venkat is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, performer and composer who works across varied musical genres while specialising in the South Indian Carnatic music style.
Of the many instruments Vijay plays, the violin, viola, flute and vichitra veena (an Indian fret-less slide instrument) are his main disciplines. He is one of a very rare breed of musicians in the world who play multiple instruments, all at a professional level.
Vijay is an empanelled artiste of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India. He has performed at major musical festivals and organisations in India and around the world.

## **INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC: Carnatic & Hindustani (Khayal & Drupad)**
**Accompaniment** . Preferably (not mandatory), all those entering the advanced-level performance should try to perform with Mridangam accompaniment. You must bring your own accompanist.
**Use of Tanpura.** Use of acoustic tanpura is encouraged. If a Shruti box is used, it must be battery operated. Talam should be provided on the stage only.

Rebecca is a director, playwright and actor.
She trained initially as a journalist at Cardiff University — during which time she wrote a weekly column for The Guardian — before moving to London to study as an actor with The Actors Company, and a teacher at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In 2014, Rebecca was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts for her work in facilitating young actors and
emerging production companies. She has founded Close Up Theatre (winner of the elite Sell-Out Status for 14 years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), Eleventh Hour Theatre and No Prophet Theatre, and is actor-manager of Talking Shadows Theatre Company.
She has taught Speech and Drama for a range of educational clients for 20 years, and pupils have been offered training places at all the major UK acting schools, and worked for major production companies such as the BBC, Channel 4, RSC, NT and Working Title. She is an examiner for several awarding bodies, and an adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals.

## **Useful information and rules**
## **Entry requirements**
1. This festival is for amateurs, one who does not derive his/her livelihood from the branch of performance, defined by the class title, in which he/she seeks to enter the festival. All members of all ensembles must adhere to this principle. Anyone – of whatever age and standard – is welcome to enter.
2. Classes with age limits: please use the performer’s age or school year as at 1 September 2021 (the start of the current academic year).
3. Performers in any choir, orchestra or group ensemble must have been bona fide members of that ensemble for two months prior to the date of the performance.
4. An absent performer cannot be replaced by a substitute.
5. Entrants may not perform the same own-choice piece in more than one class.
6. A copy of all works to be performed, clearly marked with the performer’s name, must be given to the adjudicator at the time of the class.
7. In vocal classes, any songs from the shows must be performed without costumes or props, i.e. as a concert item.
8. The suitability of own-choice songs for juniors (under-18) will be taken into consideration by the adjudicator, and teachers are asked to consider very carefully the songs for these age groups.
9. Teachers and parents must be aware of their responsibilities in entering any performers with limited physical capabilities or special needs, bearing in mind the limitations imposed by the stage and surrounding environment. It is the teacher’s or parents’ responsibility to pass on any needs or information to the adjudicator, via the section organiser.
## **Fees**
10. There is an entry fee for each class.
11. Only in the case of the withdrawal of the class will the entry fee be refunded. Requests for refunds must be made within 180 days of the original payment, the cancellation date by the Festival allowing for this.
## **Accompaniment**
12. Names and contact details of the festival accompanists are listed in the syllabus. If you wish to use the festival accompanist you must book this on the entry form. Any rehearsal prior to the festival is to be made directly with the accompanist, not through the Festival, and the expense met by the entrant.
13. If a performer chooses a piece that has been composed with an accompaniment, they must perform it with the accompaniment (except for folk songs).

## **Photocopying and copyright**
14. Performers selecting an own-choice piece that is included in a publication containing several different works and not published separately may make one photocopy for the use of the adjudicator, provided that the performer has already purchased his/her own copy.
15. The photocopy for the adjudicator will be destroyed by the festival immediately after the class.
16. Performers are reminded that it is illegal to photocopy works that are copyrighted, without the permission of the copyright holder.
17. When using music downloaded from the internet, the performer should also print off and submit the permission statement that accompanies the music.
## **Time limits**
18. Time limits for each class, shown in the syllabus, must be adhered to. Performers are encouraged to use the maximum time available, particularly in recital classes.
19. Timings include accompaniment at the start and end of the performance.
20. Timings also include time between pieces.
21. If the time limit is exceeded in competitive classes, the performer(s) will not be placed.
## **Adjudication — competitive classes**
22. The category-marking system, as shown in the syllabus, will be used for all competitive classes; numerical marks are awarded for Dance.
23. First, second and third places may be awarded in classes of five or more performers. In classes of four or fewer performers, only first place will be awarded. A performer must achieve at least a commended category to be awarded first place. Medals may be awarded, also, to those who have been placed.
24. Each performer will receive the adjudicator’s written comments and category gained, together with a certificate after the conclusion of the class. The festival cannot forward these if unclaimed.
25. The adjudicator’s decision in all classes is final.
26. Communication with the adjudicator by performer, teachers or other interested parties, regarding the classes or the written reports, is prohibited during and after the festival. The festival reserves the right to disqualify a performer for any breach of this rule.
## **Adjudication / feedback — workshop classes**
27. The adjudicator will work with each performer in turn and each performer will receive written feedback on their performance and a certificate of participation.

## **Adjudication — all classes**
28. The festival shall have power to appoint other adjudicators, should those appointed be incapacitated by illness or other unforeseen cause. The festival reserves the right to engage additional adjudicators or to substitute without notice for any adjudicator unable to appear, and to transfer classes from one session to another or from one day to another.
29. Any complaint must be submitted in writing to the Festival Co-ordinator within seven days of the class or session to which the complaint relates.
## **Order of performance**
30. The festival has the right to alter the order of performers in a class.
31. The festival has the right to amalgamate classes on the day, for the purpose of adjudication. Positions in competitive classes will be unaffected.
## **Trophies**
32. Where trophies are awarded, they are held for the ensuing year only. On receiving the trophy, the winner will be required to sign a receipt, an undertaking to keep it safe and to return it in good condition and cleaned to the appropriate section organiser by the date stated on the receipt. Any engraving is to be undertaken at the receiver’s own expense, and must be in keeping with the existing engraving.
33. Trophies are awarded only at the discretion of the adjudicator.
34. Any person or organisation wishing to donate a trophy must contact the festival by the closing date of entries.
## **Photography**
35. The taking of pictures by camera, phone or on any other device (video or flash) and CD/DVD recordings in the audience is not permitted because of copyright restrictions, and owing to safeguarding reasons. Photographs must only be taken where permission has been granted to the photographer.
36. Still photography only (without flash) may be taken at the end of a performance as time permits, in designated areas where performers pose for photographs in the knowledge that they are being photographed, individually or as part of a group, and where those who wish to refuse a photograph have the opportunity to move away.
37. The Festival may wish to take official photographs for its own use during classes, subject to receiving consent for those under 18. Permission will be requested on the entry form, and performers and parents will be asked again before the start of the class during which photos are to be taken.
## **General regulations**
38. If any mains electrical equipment is used it must be certified by a competent electrician, in accordance with BS7671 “Requirements for Electrical Installations”.
39. Mobile phones must be turned off while in the performance halls.

40. Smoking is not permitted at any venue.
41. Refreshments may be consumed in the grounds outside the venues, and rubbish is to be disposed of appropriately, but no food or drink is to be taken inside performance halls at any venues or inside the buildings at Royal Russell School.
42. The festival does not hold itself responsible for any injuries sustained by any performer or member of the public while at festival venues.
43. The festival will not be held responsible for loss or damage to property which may occur during the festival.
44. The festival cannot accept any responsibility for property left at any venue during the festival.

45. The festival operates a Safeguarding Policy, which can be found in the festival syllabus and on the website croydonperformingartsfestival.org/Safeguarding.html. Everything possible will be done to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable persons throughout the festival.
46. The festival cannot be held responsible for unsupervised children. Parents and teachers must take full responsibility for all their accompanying children and pupils while at festival venues, and must not allow them to stray from the designated areas.
## **Performance licences**
47. Where performance licences are necessary for those under 16, the Festival will make this clear at the point of entry and make every effort to contact performers and their parents to obtain the information required for this. Parents are responsible for providing the information by the deadline given. Should the information not be received by the Festival by this deadline, the performer will not be able to take part in the Festival, and the Festival will notify them and their parents of this. The Festival is unable to refund fees in this situation, and cannot take late entries if a performance licence is required and the deadline for obtaining this has passed.

## **Croydon Performing Arts Festival — Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy**
The British and International Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech work for amateur festivals everywhere to help create thousands of educational performance opportunities for children and young people each year.
The Federation, and our member Festivals, are committed to ensuring safe environments for children and young people and believe that it is always unacceptable for a child or young person to experience abuse of any kind. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people, by a commitment to recommend best practice which protects them.
This policy applies to our Board of Trustees, paid staff, Adjudicator members, volunteers, students or anyone working on behalf of the Federation and our member Festivals. We recognise that:
- the welfare of the child/young person is paramount
- all children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse
- • working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.
The purpose of the policy:
- to provide protection for the children and young people who participate in our festivals, including the children of festival members
- to provide staff and volunteers with guidance on procedures they should adopt in the event that they suspect a child or young person may be experiencing, or be at risk of, harm
We will seek to safeguard children and young people by:
- valuing them, listening to and respecting them
- adopting child protection guidelines through procedures and safe working practice for staff and volunteers
- recruiting staff and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made
- sharing information about child protection and safe working practice with children, parents, staff and volunteers
- sharing information about concerns with agencies who need to know, and involving parents and children appropriately
- providing effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training.
The Federation will review this policy each year in November in line with Safe Network guidance or sooner in light of any changes in legislation or guidance. All changes will be communicated to our member Festivals in time for the start of the new Festival year.

## **Creating Safer Festivals for Everyone**
The Federation and its member Festivals use the following policies and procedures to create Safer Festivals for everyone:
1. A single, definitive Child Protection Policy adopted by all Federation Festivals.
2. One or more designated Festival Safeguarding Officers (FSO) appointed for each Federation Festival. Name: Richard Deering Phone: 07944 694892
3. Best practice advice in the form of **Safe Working Practice and Festival Child Protection** leaflets, with support and training for all Festival staff and volunteers. Including clear reporting procedures for anyone with a concern about a child.
4. Appropriate recruitment and induction procedures for all new Festival staff and volunteers responsible for providing safe environments for everyone attending or performing at a Federation Festival.
5. All Festival personnel wear an official Festival identity badge and a head steward will be present for each Festival session. All teachers, parents, guardians, carers are asked to report all incidents of any nature to anyone wearing a Festival badge. All reported incidents will be handled in accordance with the **Safe Working Practice and Festival Child Protection** best practice advice. In addition, we will ensure the availability of a quiet area or room where concerns can be expressed in private.
6. For the duration of a Festival, all teachers/parents/guardians/carers are responsible for the continuous care and supervision of their own children/pupils. If they are unable to attend personally, they must delegate their responsibilities to an identified adult and ensure that their children or pupils are aware of the identity and name of the person responsible for their care. This includes supervision throughout all Festival venues, practice and changing areas that may be provided. The Festival cannot take responsibility for any property left unattended.
7. No unauthorised photography, audio or video recording of children and young people is allowed at our Festivals. Where parents, guardians, carers do not wish photos to be taken at all, then the responsible adult attending should ensure that their child is not included in official photos. Consent for photographs to be taken is requested at the time of entry.
8. Some children and vulnerable adults may have specific needs in order to take part. If this is the case, we ask the responsible teachers, parents, guardians, carers to contact the Festival Safeguarding Officer prior to arrival. The Festival actively seeks wherever possible to meet these needs, but must know beforehand in order to prepare support – or to advise that help cannot be provided on this occasion.
9. The Festival’s Child Protection Policy and approach to Creating Safer Festivals for Everyone is published on the Festival’s Website. On making an entry on the onlineentry system all parents, guardians, carers and teachers of performers under 18, or vulnerable adults of any age, confirm that they give (or have obtained) the necessary consents for the performers to take part in the Festival. Without consent, the entry to the Festival cannot be accepted.

## **Your Personal Data**
## **What we need**
Croydon Performing Arts Festival (“CPAF”) will be what is known as the “Controller” of the personal data you provide to us. We collect only basic personal data about you and the individuals who you enter for the CPAF which does not include any special types of information or location-based information. This does, however, include:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your date of birth
- Your telephone number
- Your email address
- Your bank details
## **Why we need it**
We need to know your basic personal data in order to keep in touch with you regarding CPAF and in order to schedule our events appropriately. We will not collect any personal data from you we do not need in order to provide and oversee this service to you.
## **What we do with it**
All the personal data we process is processed by our staff in the UK; however, for the purposes of IT hosting and maintenance, this information is also processed by a third party. Full details of our IT providers’ privacy policies can be accessed at https://support.wix.com/en/article/wixs-privacy-policy; and https://www.runmyfestival.co.uk/runMyFestival/security/welcome.xhtml. Where we need to obtain a performance licence for children involved in CPAF events, we supply personal information to the relevant local authority. We ask specifically for this information at the time that it will be needed for the children’s performance. We do not retain this information or use it for any other purpose.
## **How long we keep it**
Your personal data will not be retained by the Festival for longer than necessary in relation to the purposes for which it was originally collected, or for which it was further processed, subject to certain legal obligations mentioned below.
We will retain personal data in accordance with our data-retention policy set out below. We review our data retention periods for personal data on a regular basis. We will hold personal data relating to:
- **Your festival entry** for 12 months following the end the festival. Trophy winners’ details will be retained until the trophies are returned safely to the festival.

- **Employment or volunteering** with the festival for 5 years following the end of your employment or volunteering with us.
- **Legacies or donations** for 5 years after to legacy or donation is received.
- **Subscribing to our newsletter** or email updates about future festivals. You can unsubscribe at any time from our mailing list.
We are legally required to hold some personal data to fulfil statutory obligations, for example the collection and reporting of Gift Aid to HMRC, or to support certain financial transactions.
The law allows you to withdraw your consent to any usage of your data at any time without needing to specify a reason. You can withdraw your consent by emailing us at cpafchair@gmail.com.
## **What are your rights?**
If at any point you believe the information we process on you is incorrect you may request to see this information and even have it corrected or deleted. If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact our Data Protection Officer who will investigate the matter.
If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are processing your personal data not in accordance with the law you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
