The trustees of the NVAT meet at least once a year to deal with its charitable responsibilities. One meeting is also the Annual General Meeting of the trust. The trustees manage financial risk and are responsible for the trust accounts. Three officers are currently appointed from within the body of the trustees : Chairman, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer. The trustees are responsible for the financial control of projects carried out by the trust. Financial risk is managed though the Hon. Treasurer’s regular reporting to the trustees on expenditure and fundraising, and an annual presentation of the trust’s accounts. In addition, a research Committee with a wider membership appointed by the trustees, meets at least once a year. This is normally following the trustee meetings, or independently if required. It comprises the trustees, and also includes a membership drawn from other local and national bodies, including Historic England, Peterborough City Council, Peterborough Cathedral and local archaeological groups. The Research committee recommends projects which meet the trust’s charitable objectives to the trustees and on approval, manages their execution. It has no authority over financial affairs.

Section D Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

The Trust’s programme for the period was much affected by the international pandemic which caused us to cancel some activities but also allowed us to set up some new ‘on-line’ ventures.

1. The conference on ‘ **Science in Archaeology** ’ due to be held on March 28[th] 2020 was cancelled at short notice because of the pandemic. Although much of the ticket money was refunded we were still able to retain a proportion of it, as donations to the trust. Neither was a conference held in March 2021.

2. Similarly our planned **programme of excavations** on the site of the nearby Roman town of _Durobrivae_ planned for July 2020 was also cancelled . It is hoped to return to this site and continue this programme at some point in the future.

3. Our **partnership with the Nene Park trust in the ‘Walking in Time’ project** funded by the Nenescape landscape partnership scheme and by the National Lottery, also continued. Regular face to face meeting had to be replaced by ‘Zoom’ on-line meetings but progress was made in several areas, funded through this project.

   - Work continued on the text of the volume recording the historic fieldwork on **the industrial suburbs of the Durobrivae** by Dr SG Upex. The ‘lockdown’ of public museums has greatly hindered the gathering of information and artefacts from local sources. However, although delayed, it is hoped that a completed text will be ready for review and editing work by early 2022.

   - The text and illustrations for the volume ‘ **The Romans in the Nene Valley’** intended for the general reader was also written and collated by Dr Upex. Again production has been delayed by the pandemic but it is hoped it will be printed and available by the end of 2021.

   - Work has also continued on a series of **four Heritage trails** across the Nene Park trust estate. The routes have all now been checked with the assistance of an NVAT volunteer and text written for the leaflets , which will be designed professionally via the NP Trust. There will also be an ‘on-line’ version that can be accessed via mobile phones.

4. January 2021 saw the publication by _East Anglian Archaeology_ of the volume ‘ _**Prehistoric burial mounds in Orton Meadows Peterborough**_ **’** , a historic excavation by the late Don Mackreth funded by the NVAT.

5. The **NVAT’s website** continued to be updated with current news and developments and was accessed

March **2012**

by many users.

6. The trust initiated a series of **five ‘on-line’ lectures** via Zoom on various topics on **Bronze Age Britain** . These proved to be very popular and although tickets were free we were able to attract a considerable sum in donations via Paypal which have been a welcome addition to our finances.
