FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial posltloD
The board of Truste¢s is pleased with the resulis of the ch8Tity during the year, enablin8 it to continue to
man&ge two SI￿)IfiCant listed buildings, the Grade 11 listed Round Chapel and the Grade I Si AugU￿1ne,B
Tower. Wc have seen a broad range of activiti¢s lake pl￿e at the Round Chapel hosting food and drink
festivals, civil marria8es and wedding celebrations. film shoot4 markets and concerts covering a wide range
of music geiires.
The Round Chapel has remained accessible to the local community throu8h its work wilh school4
community groups and charities and by holdin8 ￿gUI￿ community dances.
The charity has continued to develop activili¢s * St Augustine's Tow¢r, which it manages and maintains vi&
a lease from the owners, Haekney Council. This includes open days, school visits. recitals, tslks and Santa's
grotto.
Th¢ ¢harity Continues to make input from time to time into planning v)nsuliations, particularly wherc Ihese
involve the setting of the charity's herita8e assets.
The TThstees and staff of the charity are ￿41¢ful io the generosity of individuals and organi8ations who
support the Trust. The TrLLStees acknowledge the contriburion of thc many volunteers who assist the Trust
particularly in ¢arrying duties vital to the regular rnonthly opening of St Augustine's Tower.

The board of trustees will ¢oniinu¢ lo re-invest funds in the mainienance and r¢storation of the Round
Chapel. The I'rusl is developing an asset management plan to ensur¢ th￿ cssential repairs and maint¢nan¢e
projects are Carried out in a timely manner. Large restoration projects will require & big investment and the
Trust is ¢ommirt¢d to proteclin8 and restoring its property and will strive to gener￿¢ sutTicienl Tes¢rv¢s
through hire income and fundrai$in& The chariiy has ¢onlinued to explore opponunities for external funding
for works at St Augustine's Tower, to update ¢xhibilions and carry out remedial works.

1985 and limited by guarantee. It h&8 no share w)ital and is perniitted to omit the word limited from its tttle.
The governing d￿UMent is ihe Limited Company Memorandum thnd Articles of Association. A mana£¢ment
commillee governs the work of the ¢harity as the de¢ision4naking body, according to its governing
document. The ¢ommittee mttts regularly. The senior management team reiMxI 10 the commiitee. The
Trustees are r¢gularly trained on their own mle within the chaTity, including induction. and are kept fvlly up
to date by the managers on importam issues. With the forthcoming retirement of three long serving tr￿tteS
the board is delighted io have attTacted an impressive group of new trustees to ensure the continuity of the
operations ai the buildings in our care and ￿ steer the Trust io a prnspero￿ future.
Round Cb*pel
The Tr￿$1 the freehold of a major H￿lIage A&8et kno￿1 as The Round Chapel on Lower Clapton
Road, which is a Grade Tl* listed buildin& togetheT with an adjoining Cottage. The day lo day rurffting costs
of the building are funded by the hire of the building and its facililie5 to local r¢sid¢nts. community WUPS
and private companie￿indIvIdualS for both publi¢ and private events. The Cottage is I￿ out to generat¢
income. The buildings have a book value of £63245 (which is carried in the accounts). The TnL4t¢es
consider ihe actual value of the buildin& includin8 the attached dwelling whi¢h brings in a reniat incom¢
stream, to be substaniially in excess of the acqutsilion cosi. However, in ¢urTent market conditions and
bearing in mind the listed statLLS of the propeTty, th¢ Tn￿te¢S believe li would not be prudenl to include 4
revaiu81ion in the a￿OUnts and have Owed to include this disclosure in the T￿￿¢¢$, Rel￿ rather than
create a revaluation reserve that has neither certainty nor purpose.
St Auiuitlne'• T4)wer
The Trust cares for St Au8USline's Tower which it le&8es from H￿kneY Council al a rent of £1 00 per amium
and the lease runs for 8 period of 25 years from 3rd December 2004. Following & refiwbishmenl proje¢t
funded by the H¢rilage Lottery Fund and completed in 2(K16 the building is regularly open to the public. li is
also used for educational visits. exhibitions and both public And private events.

The charity has dr&wn upon the pool of volunieers without whom the level of work that il ￿}dert￿$ would
be significantly reduced. The charity uses volurfeers whenever necessary and appropriale for specific la5k5
