Review of the activities and future dev•lopments
2023 saw the -c05t OF living crisis" within the UK continue, with inflation slowly falling throughout the year from
the incredible highs seen in 2022. Vlsitor figu￿$ were affected with the Trust receiving the lowest nurnber of
V151tor5 for the last five years 120,412 visitorsl however 1￿c￿ased tlcket prI￿S and higher levels of secondary
spend meant that visitor-based income was only marginally lower than 2022.
Two enclosure developrnents were undertaken in 2023 with a new yellow-footed tortoise house and new red-
ruffed lernur house being built. The ￿d-ruffed lemur house marked the final old style breezeblock enclosure being
rebuilt. enclosures that were highlighted for replacement in the zoo license inspettion In 2018. This lemur

We celebrated several worfd animal days includlng World Binturong Day when Dr Louisa Bodnar from ABConservation

Our d1￿Ctor, Zak Showell, visited Save Vietnam'5 Wildlife for five days in November. Spending time with the director

All the staff and rnany of the volunteers undertook my sighied gui¢Je trainino wlth the Guide Dogs to enable
us to provide guided tour to customers with sight impaimient or loss.
We developed in house sensory bags whlch guests can ffftly borrow durin9 their visits. These have been
met incre(libly p051tively.
Created a visu81 and sen50ry Story which Is on our websits for customers to view before visitin9 US.
Provided sen50ry related signoge around the zoo In areas where it might be noisy, dark or hot.
Partnered with Acce55able who provi¢Je accessibility audits as well as having a very popular website which
hosts access guides for attractions acmss the UK.
Mindful of the ongoing impart of the cost-of-living crisis and the continued increase overheads, the 2024 budget wlll
need to be cautious. There will also be a need to explore diversification of income and alternative fundralslng and grant
opportunltles to ensure there is suffident capltal to continue to develop the zoo whilst maintslnlng a feaslble budget.
