Chairperson’s Report 2020-2021

I would like to start by thanking our committee members once again, without the dedication and hard work it would not be possible to keep the hall going.

I would also like to thank our Caretaker Malcolm who has worked hard throughout the year keeping the hall looked after and safe.

It has continued to be a tough year and we managed to open for about 4 months with a few regular classes.

We have used this time though to continue with the renovations and thankfully due to several large government grants we have a very healthy bank balance. We have used the money wisely and changed the main hall lighting to LEDs, painted the whole hall and removed the curtains to give it a fresh and clean look.

The bar and kitchen were finished off and we just have a few final touches to go.

Unfortunately a leak was found in the flat roof and after inspections from x3 separate roofers the conclusion is that we need to get a new flat roof. It has been repaired in the past but we feel to protect the new bar and kitchen it is safer and cost effective to have full new roof. The original has lasted well.

We will then move to the outside painting and windows hopefully restoring and repainting.

We have managed to recruit x2 new committee members Julie and Frances and we welcome their input.

Frances with Julies help requested to pursue starting up the Monthly markets and we have so far run x2 very successful events. We have had a great response from local stallholders and the community came down even in the bad weather.

The whole team have been involved and we are looking at tightening it up so we can run it with smaller teams each month. We are looking at running the bar and offering food but we are waiting for a food hygiene certificate.

We are in discussions with the Church and Cricket club on running a outdoors event in August, but we are waiting on the regulations to see if they will be lifted.

We don’t plan to run any extra events this year but hope to restore the quizzes, music events, children’s discos next year.

We need to target advertising for more regular classes so we can fill the hall up on a daily basis.

We look forward to opening up fully and welcoming the community back
