OBJEcfIvES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and 2im$
The objects ofthe charity are ￿ advanc¢ th¢ s¢i¢w¢ and art of gynaetological oncology for the be￿fit of th¢ public.
It achieves its obj¢ctives by:
- Making grants to individuals
- Sponsoring or undertaktng research in gynaecological oncology IGynOn¢l
- Providing advocacy, advice and inforn]ation
- Running consensus meetings for specific topi¢s in GynOn¢
- Publishing Clinical guidelines for diagttosls and management of g)ryw¢colo8ical callcers
- Working with the Royal Coll¢g¢ of Obst¢tricians and Gynaecologists io develop training ¢ll￿1¢￿Ia
-supporting professional devclopmcnt of mcrnbership
- Acting as an umbrella or rcsourcc body
- Supporting one national annual s¢i¢ntifi¢ me¢iing a y¢ar looking at aspects of gynaec4)logical oncology
- Awarding prizes to the best oral and postcr pr¢s¢ntation at the ASM

ACHIEWTMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

TILe BGCS continues to expand with increasing m¢rnb¢rship of all rnultidisciplinary professions involved itt
?￿a¢CO10g1cal cancer ¢ar¢. The key aims of the BGCS continue to be advocates in th¢ maDag¢tnmt of G)maecologic41
Cancer by education and pro]noting b¢st PTa¢tioe iu the care of women diagnosed with gJw¢cological ¢an¢¢r.
In 2024, th¢ Annual Scientific Meeting took place on the Liveryool dockland5. Th¢ m¢¢ting was a great SUC¢¢5s with
over 500 dcl¢gat¢s attcnding a two day tneetin¥. Delegates had lectures from natioThal and iDt¢rnational speakers.
Delegate feedback on tbe meeting was excellent. During 2024, the BGCS held a dedicated oThe day meeting for unit lead
clinicians, furth¢r str¢ngthening the role of the BGCS in supporting clinicians ill smaller cancer units. Iu Jalluary, the
BGCS held th¢ annual trdinees meeting for sub speciality trainees. Training of our future gynaecological canc¢r
hcalthcare professionals remains a priority, w¢ sUPPQrt the trainees with educational grants and the opportunity to attend
the NatlODal PeTiioneal Carcinomatosis Centre in Basingstoke as a training fellow.
During 2024, the BGCS agreed a strategic alliance witb the Intemational Gyna¢cological Caneer Soeiety (iGcs). Thc
council have agreed to pay th¢ subs for 2 years. Thi5 strategic alliancc opens up new areas for educaiion. mentorship
and training for our membcrs a￿d had been requested by our members it) a membership survey.
In 2024, BGCS commissioned a national audit on the maDag¢m¢nt of EDdoTnetTial Caneer within the UK. This PToject.
funded by BGCS and othcr funding partners will help to r¢vi¢w and shap¢ our manag¢ni¢nt of the wmmon¢st
Gynaecological ¢an¢¢r.
The BGCS to offu grants for research. During 2024, we fimded two posi doctoral researeh grant i
Conjunction with W¢llbeing of Wornen and also smaller peer reviewed re￿arCh grants through the Bfjcs. In addition
we offer Yarious prizes and tsavel grants to Tnembers of the society. The application numbets foT all grants continue to
increase, rellectlng the popularity of our grants.
Overall. Ihe BGCS is a thriving so¢iety and during 2024 achieved tis aims of advocating for th¢ diagnosis, manag¢m¢nt
and care of women diagnosed with G￿a¢cOlogical ¢an¢¢r.

Rueryes poli¢y
The Treasurer will monitor the fiDaneial reserves of th¢ ¢haTity and is responsible for recommending a resetv¢s poli¢y
which will b¢ T¢vi¢w¢d by the Trustees on an annual basis. The ¢urrent r¢s¢ry¢s poli¢y was agreed ai th¢ council
meettng in June 2017 and is based on the followiDg principals..
-The BGCS should keep res¢tves thai ¢an sustain the working of th¢ charity for a year.
-The BGCS should uot keep Teserves th&t are excessive. Assun]ing the requirement for maintaining reserves for one
year is met, th¢ charity should avoid keeping reserves water than 80D/o of tbe SUTn of th¢ annual income and expenditure

-Wh¢n r¢￿rV¢S are exc¢ssive. the ch￿lty should explore new avenues of charitable activity.

the feasibility pilot of a National Endometrial Cancer Audit Pilot IECAP), fiwther expenditurc on the W¢binar

Recruitment and appolntment of new trustees
The otTJ¢e holder5 of the Society {Prcsident, Hon Seuetary and Hon Trcasurcr) have automatically held the role of
Trustce since the inception of th¢ So¢i¢ty in 1984. It was de£ided that at ihe summer council meeiing of the society on
8th July 2015 that the society should fommlise the appointment of non-executiv¢ tru51¢¢s and this was ratifi¢d at th
AGM of 10th July 2015. It was decided that the officeis of the council as de%ribcd in th¢ constitution of th¢ BGCS
2015 Settion {3) would be joined in the rol¢ of truste¢s by no less tban Iwo and no more thart four noTL-voting trustees to
serv¢ for thr¢¢ y¢aTS. Th¢ aim of council was to seek applications from the most experieDc¢d Rndividuals within the
membership and it was ¢nvisaged that such candidates would be either nearing the end of OT have retired from clinical
practice. The memberskn"p was asked to self nominat¢ for the position or noTnillate a colleague if they were agreeable to
takmg up the positio￿ by Odober 31st 2015. Subsequenily Iwo individuals were identified who were approached and
who both a￿ept¢d th¢ position of trustee. Their appolnth￿)t was ratified at AGM of 15th May 2016. The newly
appointcd trllstces were sent an invitation letter which dirxted thwi to background reading regarding tbeir statutory and
society responsibilities. Both trust¢es a¢cepted by retum of post. The fiTSI r¢sponsibility dclcgatcd to the two n¢wly
appointed I￿￿te¢S was the ￿M]ltm¢nt of a third non voting tnjstee. ideniified at the council meeting of 9th February
2017 and subsequently dircctly approached with the same invitalion letter us¢d preVio￿ly. The third non-voting tru￿ee
acccptcd thc position forntslly on 13th Marcb 2017 and this appointmenl was Tatified at the AGM on 15th Jun¢ 2017.
this person has now st¢pp¢d from the trustee p051tiim for personal reasons at the end of 2020. A new tsustee with a
non m¢dical background and expertisc in l¢gal affairs has SIt￿e been appointed.
