ACHIEVKMENT AND PERFORMANCE

The BGCS continu¢s to thrive with an increase in membership to beyond 700 h¢wlth¢aTe woikm iwluding surg¢ons,
oncologists, nurscs, scienrists and associated healthcare workeTS. The key ainLs of ihe BGCS are to be advocates in th¢
manag¢mcnt of Gynaecological Cancer by education and pro￿￿till8 best praciice in the care of women diagllosed with
gynaecological can¢er.
Tk centrc W)int of the yeaTly activity Temains the annwal s¢ientifie meeiing. In 2023 this took place ill Aberdeen with
over 4(K) attendees over 2 days. The standard of thc mecting was extremety high and we received excellent delegate
feedback. Iknring 2023. th¢ BGCS held a dedicated one day meeting for unit lead clinicians, fvrth¢r strengthening th¢
rol¢ of the BGCS in supporting clinicians in smaller canccr units. In January. thc BGCS held the annual trainee8
meeting for sub speciality trainees. Trajning of our futur¢ gynaeeological caneer healthcare professionals remains a
priority, we support the trainees Mryth educational grants and th¢ opportunity to attcnd thc Naiional Peritoneal
Car¢inomatosis Centre in Basingstok¢ as a training fellow. The BGCS havc dcv¢lop¢d a new trdining program in
conjun¢tson with the GMC and RCOG. Notably, th¢ BGCS are developing rtursing standards and guidelines which will
be published in 2024 following peer review.
Th¢ major charitable actions of the BGCS are Providing grants for research. During 2023, we ￿nded a post doctoral
research grant in conjunction with Wellbeing of Women and also S￿￿11¢[ pew teyiewed research gtaT)ts through the
BGCS. In addition we offer various prizes and travel wts to members of th¢ society.

meeting in June 2017 and ts based on th¢ following principals..
-The BGCS should k¢ep reserv¢s that c4n sustsin the workin¥ of the clwity for a y¢ar.
-The BGCS should not keep resetves that are excessive. Assuming the r¢quir¢m¢nt for maintaining reserves for one
year is met. the cbarity should avoid k¢eping r¢s¢TV¢S greater than 800/0 of the sum of the atjnual incon]e ￿T￿ ￿￿ndit￿¢
av¢ra8¢d ovu fiv¢ years
-Wh¢n reserves are excessiv& the charity should explore new aV¢nU￿ of ¢l]aritable activity.
Under the CUt￿nt ￿8¢rVeS policy reserve5 at the year end cotjtinuc to bc high d￿pIte planned ¢xp¢nditur¢ on funding
the feasibility pilot of a Naiional Ovarian Cancer Audit F¢asibility Pilot, furth¢r ¢xp¢nditwe on the Webinar educational
programme. ffijnding of 2 consrnsus me¢tings and fvnding of an additional sub-group. tn 2020 Council agreed to
additionèl spending to support the Traineesfjrainers Annual Summit, discounted registration fees to support t)ur5e
members attending Annual Scientific Meeting, incrcascd cxpcnditure on PriTKS, awards, tTavel fellowships and
researchlaudit grattts.

6th Ortob¢r 1984 alld am¢nd¢d on the 6th May 1988, 30th April 1994. 20th May 2004 at]d 21 Jun¢ 2013. It is a
registered d￿rity, number 290959.

The office holders of tbe Society (PresTdent, Hon Secretary and H¢)n Trca8urer) have automatically held the role of
Trustee since the inception of the Society in 1984. It wa5 decided that at the sun]n￿r council meeting of the society
8th July 2015 that the society should fornulise rhe appointment of non-executive tru%tee5 and this Ivas ratified at the
AGM of 10th July 2015. It was decided thai the offieets of thc council as described in thc ConSti￿tion of the BGCS
2015 Section (3) Wo￿ld be joltsed in thc rolc of truste¢s by no1¢s5 than two and no more than four non-votittg trustees to
serve for thrce ycars_ Th¢ airn of Council was to seek applications from the most experienced individuals within the
Tnembcrship and it was envisaged thai such Candidates would be either nearing th¢ ¢nd of or have retired clinical
practice. The memberskn"p was asked to self nilminate for the position or n¢)minate a colleague if they were agr¢¢abl¢ tt>
taking up the Positio￿ by Oetob¢r 31st 2015. Subsequently two individuals were Identifi￿ who were approached and
who l)oth accepted the position of trustee. Their appointmellt wa5 ratifi￿ at AGM of 15th May 2016. The newly
appointed In￿lee$ were bent an invitation letter whioh dirwled them to background reading regarding their ststutory and
soriety respollsibiliti¢$. Both trnstees accepted by retum of post. The firsi responsibility delegat¢d to th¢ two n¢wly
appoillt¢d truste¢5 was the recruitment of a third non voting truslee. identified at the wunril meeting of 9th February
2017 and subsequently directly approached with the sam¢ invitation letter used previously. The third non-voting trustee
accepted the position foTrnally on 13th Marcb 2017 and this appointment was ratified al the AGM on 15th J￿¢ 2017,
this person has now st¢pped down from the lrnstee position for personal reasons at the end of 2020. A n¢w IEUStee wryth a
non medical background and expenise in legal affairs has sincc been appointcd.
The Cu￿ent constitution (2017) stat¢s in relation to tnJstees:_

2. Tnjstees shall be recommended by Council and ratified by the AGM.
3. Tnjstees sball serve a rninitnum terni of three years and this may be rettewable for up to two fiJrtb¢r t¢rn￿. In
eertain circillnstances th¢ tcrni may b¢ extended by a further one year to allow for ov¢rlap and ensuring suitable
candidaics are in post to provide continuity to the Soci¢ty.
4. There shall be a Tninimum of 2 and a M￿l[￿￿M of 4 trustees who will not have voting rights.
5. Trust¢¢$ shall be individuals whose qualifications and motivation would be of value to the BGCS in promoling its
goals within the rules of lis charitable sta￿s.

The fmancial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in

Reporting Standard applicable in th¢ UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019),,
