The Trustees present their report with the financial statements of the Charity for the
year ended 31 December 2024. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of
Accounting and Reporting by Chaflles: Statement of RecA)mmended PraLtice
applicable to charities preparing th￿r accounts in acc(Kdance with the Finanaal
Reporting Stsndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).
The Charlty is contrdled by its governing document, a deed of Trust whlch Is dated 5
October 1984 and amended by fysolution on the 14 October 1992 and constitute5 an
unincorporated charity.
The Church is not part of a denominatlon or network and is entirely self4Jovernlng.
albeit it seeks to work with other hke-minded churthes in the local area. the UK and
Overseas.
The Trustees have assessed the major risks to Nthich the Charity Is exposed and are
satlsfied trrat systems are in place to mitigale exposure to the major rfsks.

SCF has a three-fold leadefship strncture, whlch has some overlap, under the overall
directi1￿ of the Leadership Team. Each group Trnstees, Staff and Stream Leaders-
has distinct responslbiltties in (xder to take adequate care of each churGh member
and continue on-going outward ministry to benefft the Community.
The overall vision and direction for the Church is set by the Leadership Team with
reference to the Extended Leadership Team, Tnjstees and Oversight Group.
The responsibilities of the Oversighl Gn)up are to pray. advise and support the
Leadership Team. It is not a decislonry￿￿klng group. I￿t rather hears and discems
the heakh and direction of the Churth offerlng some accountability to the Leadership
Team and for the Churth. Currentty this group consists of Mark and Anita
Churchward (based in Southend), Basil and Kathy D'souza (baseil in Mumbai.

'Publlc Benefit, is the legal requirement that all charities must have tharitable
purposes which benefit the publc. The Charities Act 2011 undethnes this
requiremenl. The report seeks to highlight the public benefit ￿Vided by Southend
Christian Fellowship.
The tnjstees have paid due regard lo guidance by the Charity Commlssion in
deciding ￿at activities the thaiity should undertake. All of the many and varied
activiti8s of Southend Christian Felh)wship as described in thi5 repcyt are available
to, and for the benefrt of, the public across the complete age spectrurn, including
chlldren. teenagers and adults. Therefore. the trustees believe that Southend
Christian Fellowship fully CoMp￿eS with the requirement5 of the Charities Act 2011

The leadershlp and trustees recognlse that the time. finance and skills glven willingly
by volunteers enable much of what the Fellowship aims to do lo be effectively
athieved and are very grateful for this generosity.
Durlng thls flnanclal year, the Church has c(￿tinUed to experfence God's wovision
and growth..
Southend Christian Fellowship has been engaging with over 500 people on a
weekly basls. Thls number includes over 100 children and young people. Our
main meeting is on a Sunday mÉxning c(Nnmencing at 10:30 am and indudes
children and youth meetings.
In September 2024 due to gro￿ and in oryler to extend the opportunrties for
the Church to meet together, a new evening service was launthed. called
Church Unusual. This also offers the opportunity for younger and less
experienced leaders to grow and develop their skn'lls and gifts and allows
those who can't make the nK)ming service another opportunity to connect and
access the Church.
Church membership crosses all social dasses, elhniaty and age groups.
There are a large number of roles in wthich people are providing volunteer
support which enables us to function in praclical. administrative and spiritual
capacities.

Teaching and disciplirKJ of the church membws has laken pla￿ through Sunday
gatherings. special events and small spe(xfic gTOUPS, for example a successful new
initiative this year was the Ministy Tool Box which focused on pastoral tools and
methods to help walk people into a greater degree of freedom and deepen their faith.
A team of people led by membws of the Leadership Team take responsibility for
pastoral care throughout the Church. We have k)oked to develop the processes
involved in thi5 in order to ensure that everyone wthin the Church famity has good
acces5 to 5upwi and that those WIK) are newer to the Ofganisatlon are quickly
known and feel known. with appropriate opportunities to get invofved and to get to
know one another. As part of our numerFcal gro%%th. and particularty us engaging
people from a wider Socic￿e¢l￿OMiC background and an incre8sing number of
vulnerable adults we felt it ne￿ssary to increase our pastoral capacity and therefore
increased our leadership and staff and volunteer ministerial capacity. emrAoying a
member of the Leadership team with speafic responsibility for Pastoral Care. We
believe that this will help us to ensure that we have a strong structure for pastoral
care 8nd discipleship- particularly for those who are new in their faith.

Groups have functioned within specific areas of Ministry throughout the year,
providing an opportunity for people to 5wve and develop their gifts in areas such a5
pastoral work, worship, prophecy, healing.

Southend Chrislian Fellowship provldes relevant leaching for all ages of thlldren
from pre-schoolers to teenagers. This is led by some of our staff team. supported by
a large team of volunteers from a wide background of expeTience across our Church
rnembershlp. In addltlon to our Sunday moming teaching actlvities, a fortnightly dub
has been created encouraging thildren in their worship an(1 he￿Ing them grow in
their relationship with Gcrtl and wlth one another, and events are organised regularfy
during Sch(￿1 holidays for primary sthool aged children arKllor their families.
Our team also cany out mid-week activitses for younger families whose children are
not yet in full time education- this is designed to offer past(nl support and
connections and signposting to professionals and other Charities and Groups
working in the Community where specialist support would be beneficial. We hav8 a
growing reputation for the expertsse in this area that we provide across the City
particularly amongst families who have thildren with additional needs.

Has continued to grow wilh more than 20 young people regularty attending not just
Sunday moming sessions but activÈties and events organised during school holiday
periods. The highlight for the year for a number of them was a short residential
organised by the youth team at a local outdoor actrvity centre.

Communlty Café
As well as offering a Pea￿ful and calm environment to Ihe communty our Caf8
offers 8 warm space dun'ng the o)Id winter months and pastoral support and
signposting to other professionals and cornmunity groups to those who request it.
our café has a number of volunteers tho eryoy the experience of volunteering in a
safe and well monltored environment gaining valuable life and personal skills and
building their confKlence.
A very successfijl toddler group is provlded for mothers arKI fathers, carers and
some child minders who are looking after earfy years children. This safe space
provides a wam welcorne, pastoral sup￿￿ and experIen￿d earty years
practitioners alongside volunteers from the thurch family who tr￿11d relationships with
young families from the local community.
Sozo is an intemationally recognised Inner Healing and deliverance ministry
methodology. Our team of practitioners has grown over the year which has
expande(S our capacity enabling us lo cary cxrt more sessions. All pradtioners have
to undergo extensive trainlng and vetting, and liaise with other SOZO tr81ned
Mlnisters across Ihe region and beyond.
ENGAGEMEKf WTTH OTHER CHURCHES, MINISTRIES AND EVENTS
Church leaders and members of Ihe congregation have been active in promoting and
attending numerous inter4hurth events. and areas of seNice to the communty
which induded:
Believer5 in Recovery is a protestsnt recovery ministy supporting men & women
who have been affected directly or irwjiredly by all fom)s of addittion Ihat welcomes
people with no faith, little faith & great faith. In October 2024 due to an increase in
their numbers they moved from a local premises to make Southend Christian
Fellowship their home. This partnership conkn'nues to go from strength to strength as

a number of the group attend our meets'ngs on Sundays. and have also begun
engaging in a number of the other actiwties, groups and events that we run as a
FellDwship. This has helped us to inuease our ability to engage and support
number of vulnerable individuals who may struggle lo a￿sS support from other
professionals.

Also. one of the SCF leaders is a trustee of this charity along wtth representatives
from a number of churches across the Borough. The foodbank conts.nues to work in
conjunction with the Trussell Trust.

interdenominational Organisation; Love Southend. Volunteers have supported a
number of different ath'vities across the City of Southend providing volunteers.
teaching and equipping and also use of our premises for gatherings.
Thls ts an effective debt adNlce team who are not onty able to help c￿ents escape
debt, but also provide assistsnce on budgeting and buildlng a stable financial future.
In addition to some financial support. volunteers provide pastoral support and
assistance when debt coaches are seeing dients in the community local to
ourselves.

leaders, collaborating in serving Southend, South-East Essex and beyond. Over
recent years we have been invofved with a new relational group of Churches that

seeks to unite local people from across the ge￿JraphiCal community o

where the Plaza Centre, our main Pfemises. is based. In addition to supporting
them with office space, they have regularly used our facilities auoss the year to
draw together dtfferent community Influen(￿rS, local Businesses, Charities and
residents with Ihe heart to see Souihchurch prosper.

Whilst we do not have personnel Working overseas we support a number of
churches. Some of these churches are in unstable countries and some are seeing
persecution. It is therefore no longer appropriate that we disdose more details at
this point in time.
ExfERNAL HIRE OF THE PLAZA CEKfRE FACIUTIES
The Trustees allow other organisalions to hire the facilities providiThJ the activity
does not conflict with the ethos of the Felk)wship. Other charilies receive highly
discounted rates.

support budding dan￿r5 and actorslactresses from the local area who wouldn't be
able to afford more expensive Options" NHS and other health-focussed activities and
groups including rehabilitation age-appropriate exercise classes; and a number of
other local communlty groups.
Additionally, and malnly durlng the evenings, we crJntinue lo host a number of
musical events, many organised by the local Borough Arts Councll whilst others
have been hosted by other tharilies arKI groups induding most notably the Music
Man Project. This policy has helped to promote highquality entertainment for the
community and has been extremety well rec*ive(l. Voluntary stewards from the
Felk)wship are responsible for Heallh and Safety requirements and provide
refreshments for a charge.
Our incorne Increased over the year to £39.538 frcyn £31.079 owing to promotional
activities. This figure is short of targeted inc¢xne and circa 30% below peak years.
Development of the Plaza Centre faLxlities <x)ntinued Ihroughout the year where
fijnds have been available. This work has mosiiy been carried out by skilled
members of the Fellowship donating theiT time and energy in order to support the
vision and objectives of the Charity.

Southend Christian Fellowship has established policies which apply to both staff and
those who take part in the community lrfe andl or visit the church, induding a
Safeguarding Policy and ensure that all mandatory training is carried out effethety.
During the past year existing policies have been reviewed and upgraded and
various new policies generated.

Total Net assets for the year was £936.625 versus £1,041.215 for the prior year. The
trustees vrfould like lo express their thanks to those business. tharities. other local
churthes and individuals for their donations and grants given during the year.

The charity relies on voluntary donations from its mernbers for its income. The
Charity does not employ professional fund48ising bcKlies.
GRAKfs RECEIVED
During the year. no grants were received.
The charity has adopted a policy of pladng any surplus funds In a low risk, high
retum investment account with COIF.
The trustees have developed a reserves ￿cY that ￿Y would hold reserves to
cover a polents'al reduction or loss of income.
The trustees believe that it would be prudent to have as a reserve a minimum of
£50.000 readily available to cover unforeseen eventualities. (£32.000 is
approximatety one month's unrestricted incomeloutgoings). The average current
account balance over the year was in ex(xss of £50.000.
Discussions intemally within the chanty, and extemally, lead the Irustees lo b81ieve
that sufficient funds equivalent to the reserve figure idenlified could be made
available, rf required. on a timety basis by way of108n finance.
Many people In the Church are committed to a sustainable ftrture and to improving
the social. economic and environmental welH)eing of the community. Thts is an
ethos of the fellowshlp.
We endeavour to base all our aclions on sustainability principles lo protect our
planet and future. We are seeking to minimize C02 emissions even though we
occupy a large building built in the 1930's.
Our services are delivered in a way that minimizes en)tironmental impac* and
promotes integrity.

are investing in the future of SCF and the Plaza Centre; arKI creating strategy to
increase our reach and infiuence for the benefit of God's Kingdom and the
¢x)mmunty around us, and beyond. As a growing congregation we believe that we
have the capacity to expand our outreach projects. develop our minlslries further and
create further trdining and equipping for those within the Organisation to further
benefit those around us.
By careful management of income and budgets the TNstees assist ￿ Leadership
Team by ensuring that costs are monitored on a timely basis and that there are
sufficient reserves in place to albw for growlh and expansion.
