Bramford Playing Field Management Committee Annual Report for 2020/21

I enclose a copy of the Accounts for the end of year March 31[st] 2021

The Playing Field Committee are pleased with the improvements that we have made over the last twelve months. However it has been difficult because of the coronavirus, and decisions have been made by phone and email using a quorum from the Committee.

We have improved the fencing around part of the field. We have installed a new more secure back door (paid for by a grant from MSDC), and bought a new tractor mower to use for cutting the field. We have replaced the windows in the changing rooms and spent over £3,000 updating the security for fire prevention, burglar alarm and CCTV. The Bowls Club runs the bar and pays for the general upkeep and utilities for the building and they have needed considerable help from the Covid payments. A nominal amount of £1,000 each has been paid to the Tennis and Football Clubs to spend on encouraging young people to return to sport. It is likely we will need to help the Bowls Club again, if their income doesn’t improve substantially.

All of the Committee have given their time freely to make repairs and keep the field and surrounding area free from litter. The number of people that work voluntarily on the field, pavilion and play area is extremely gratifying, and we certainly couldn’t continue to do all the upkeep and improvements without them. The clearing of litter alone is an ongoing problem, and volunteers are clearing this daily. We try to communicate with the youngsters to ease the situation of litter, vandalism and noise, but as with the rest of the village, it is difficult.

It is necessary for all businesses to budget carefully for the following year, and to do this it is necessary to hold a certain amount in reserve for all eventualities. The Parish Council has to do this, and so it would be difficult for them too, if the PFMC suddenly required help to pay for an unexpected expenditure. We have tried to consider all outcomes but it is impossible to cover all eventualities.

We have a water sewage pump which has not had attention for about twenty years. If it breaks down it would be considerably expensive to repair. This is just one example.

The tyre swing on the play area will need new bearings at any time and this could cost £2500 apart from any other repairs to equipment and surface.

We also have to consider repairs to the flat roof of the pavilion or any other emergency repairs.
