Beatrix Potter Primary School Parent Teacher Association Charity Number 289615 Report of the Trustees For the Year Ended 31 August 2022

The trustees present their report and the financial statements of the charity for the year to 31 August 2022. The charity is registered with the Charity Commission, number 289615. The charity is an unincorporated association, governed by the Beatrix Potter School PTA Constitution document, registered address: Magdalen Road, London, SW18 3ER.

Aim and purposes

The principal activity of the charity is to enrich the educational experience of children attending Beatrix Potter School, Magdalen Road, Wandsworth, London, SW18 3ER by providing facilities and resources for education (not normally provided by the Education Authorities).

Objectives and activities

The PTA plans various fundraising events which provide additional funding to the school and allow it to provide a broader range of educational activities than would otherwise be possible if it solely relied on funding by the Education Authorities. This benefits the pupils of the school by introducing them to new educational, cultural and extra-curricular activities that help to develop and further their awareness of others, confidence and general knowledge. Activities are carefully selected so that pupils of all abilities can participate and benefit positively from their participation. Additionally, the PTA funding helps to ensure that no pupils are prevented from attending due to personal circumstances. In planning our activities during the year, we have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

Achievement and performance

The PTA was able to fund or assist with the funding of various items and events throughout the year, the key ones being as follows:

The PTA continues to successfully raise funds through regular events and introduction of new events. The main fundraising events were the Summer Fete, held in June 2022. The Charity also runs discos and movie nights for the children, cake and second hand uniform sales, social events for parents and various Christmas events (cards, wrap, trees), all of which provide some level of fundraising to the school. The PTA has also been in receipt of sponsorship money for events and matched funding. Apart from raising funds, the events also promote a sense of community and teamwork amongst pupils, teachers and parents of the school.

Public Benefit

As a charity, we remain mindful of our commitment to public benefit by working to fulfil our charitable aims and we have referred to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities.

Financial Review

The Financial Review from past few years highlighted expectations for the PTA to materially increase spending in the coming few years given Charity has higher than expected cash balances following a few successful years of fundraising. Charity’s net funds movement for the year amounted to expenditure of £15,970, which brought the balance on the accumulated fund up to £72,566. Funds are held as cash. The broad aim of the PTA is to match its net income with donations to the school.

There are currently significant projects under way including outdoor areas reconstruction and modernisation, further upgrades to IT equipment and sports equipment.

Reserves

The Charity aims to hold reserves at a level to ensure the Charity is operating in a sustainable manner, to enable financing of future fundraising events, and to respond to urgent funding requests from the school to upgrade school facilities in instances whereby school finances are unable to fund themselves, for example with new playground equipment. The Trustees consider an amount in between £20,000 to £30,000 to be sufficient to hold as reserves.

Going Concern

The Trustees have assessed the Charity’s financial position and believe that there are no material uncertainties that call into doubt the Charity’s ability to continue. The accounts have therefore been prepared on a going concern basis.

Trustees

All parents of the school are members of the Parent Teacher Association, along with teachers and the School Head. Members of the committee are appointed as trustees and are elected at an Annual General Meeting.

The trustees who served on a voluntary basis during the period and members of the BP PTA Steering Committee were as follows:

Liz O’Donovan, Liz Bibby

Andrew Mullins, Treasurer
