The first page of the accounts shows the Concert Account with a breakdown for each of our four concerts, together with the General Account which shows the income and expenditure for the year. The column on the right provides a comparison to 2022/23. The second page is the Balance Sheet which provides information about the Orchestra’s bank accounts and reserves. ## **Concert Account** ## **Income** - Ticket sales across the four concerts were excellent, particularly the Christmas and May concerts. This resulted in a £4948 increase in ticket sales compared to the previous year. - We made a small £100 profit from programme sales. - We applied for a grant from the Delius Trust for the performance of Summer Evening in March and received a generous grant of £750 from them. ## **Expenditure** - Conductor’s fees, professional fees and soloist fees remained the same as 2022/23. - The May soloist, Richard Scholfield (saxophone) was funded from the Gwen Tomlinson Fund. - The hire of the Playhouse increased slightly and the hire of the piano increased for the October concert. - Music hire increased by over £1,000 due to the March and May programmes. The Committee was aware in advance that the music for these concerts was expensive, however, they did prove to be popular concerts. - Printing costs for posters and leaflets totalled £720. Thanks to Simon, there were no printing costs 2022/23. - There was some confusion with the Playhouse advertising charges which resulted in an overpayment in October and the December charge was waived. - PRS fees are an ongoing issue. These used to be included in the Playhouse invoice but are now invoiced separately from PRS. The October 2023 concert should have been exempt but we were charged and we have been overcharged for Christmas 2023. At the end of the financial year, this had not been resolved and we had not been invoiced for March and May. We have not accrued for these due to the overpayment of PRS, which should cover the amount owed. Overall, the Concert Account showed a small deficit of £854.04 compared to a deficit of £4,586.92 in 2022/23. ## **General Account** ## **Income** - We received a £657 increase in bank interest due to the interest rate increase on our savings accounts. - Gift Aid also increased due to a generous donation that we received from Darrell Davison which we were able to claim Gift Aid on (see Balance Sheet information below). - The Donated Asset income for 2022/23 is the violin and bows that were donated by Shirley Breden. This is now shown on the Balance Sheet. - Playing member and friends’ subscriptions were similar to the previous year. ## **Expenditure** - Making Music and Insurance membership increased as we had slipped back into the higher income bracket. - Website development is the Making Music Platform resource that we have purchased which includes a new website as our old website needed a lot of updating. This will include a members’ area and will be up and running soon. This has been funded from the Margaret Oyston Memorial Fund. - Rehearsal fees and hall hire have increased by £500. Overall, we generated income of £2,312.21 for the year. This resulted in a surplus for the year of £1,458.17. ## **Balance Sheet** The Balance Sheet shows the Orchestra’s bank accounts, the allocated funds and reserves which now total £38,387.47. We received a generous donation of £3,000 from Darrell Davison which was from the Arthur Davison concerts. This is now shown as a new allocated fund “The Arthur Davison Young Performers Fund”. Each year, one of our young soloists will receive a fee from this fund which will be decided on by the Trustees. Together with the donated asset, at the end of 2023/24, the Orchestra’s total assets are £44,387.47.
