The charity also aims to raise sufficient funds to issue food, clothes and toy vouchers just prior to Christmas to circa 1,650 identified disadvantaged children. ## **Significant activities** The main activities used by the charity to raise funds are appeal letters, donations, street collection and fund raising events. In addition the charity maintains its reserves to meet its future obligations. Page 1 The Lord Mayor of Bristol's Christmas Appeal For Children Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 30 June 2024 ## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE** ## **Charitable activities** The Trustees have focused their continued efforts on endeavouring to maintain the level of donations and funds raised to support charitable aims. The charity reported the following results in the year. ||2024|2023| |---|---|---| |(Deficit)/Surplus|(53,628)|40,255| The raising of sufficient funds to meet its necessary expenditure remains a challenge year on year. We have, however, continued to benefit in the year from extremely generous and significant donations. Without this generosity we would not be able to provide the level of charitable activity that we have managed to achieve on an ongoing basis. The Trustees and Committee for The Lord Mayor of Bristol's Christmas Appeal for Children continue to endeavour to find new sources of revenue to meets its commitments. Fund raising activities have been a challenge this year, with the Gala Dinner at one stage looking like it was going to be possibly cancelled, however the committee and team rallied to ensure the event went ahead, although the profit of £407 was hugely down from previous years. The charity have learned from this experience and are implementing new ideas and initiatives for the Gala Dinner and other new fundraising events for the forthcoming year which are already starting to show increased revenue. ## **Investment performance** The charity only invests money with UK banks and seeks to obtain the best rate of return for the least financial risk. ## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** ## **Reserves policy** It should also be noted that the charity are looking to reduce the reserves held to a more appropriate level and this is also illustrated in the annual results. The charity has achieved this primarily by increasing the charity donations from a target of £66,000 to £82,500 which ultimately means increased benefit to the children the charity aims to support. ## **FUNDS HELD AS CUSTODIAN FOR OTHERS** No funds are held as a custodian to any third party. I have examined your charity's accounts as required under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act"). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions givent by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Accounting convention** The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective April 2008), the Charities Act 2011 and the requirements of the Stataement of Recommended Practice, Accounting and Reporting by Charities. ## **Incoming resources** All incoming resources are included on the Statement of Financial Activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. ## **Resources expended** Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the Trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the obects of the charity. Restriction arise when specified by the donot or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
