The year seems to have flashed by and here we are at the end of another financial year. A year where the 82[nd] Bristol Scout Group has continued to flourish. Firstly, I would like to thank all my fellow trustees on the Board of Trustees for all your hard work and dedication over another year within our Scout Group. Your time and input as always is greatly appreciated and most of the work goes unnoticed but invaluable in ensuring we as a Scout Group are compliant and available to support our Scout Leadership Team and maintain our Scout HQ to the high standard we have now come to expect and for which we are constantly praised for. This last year we have fortunately been able to continue financially supporting and subsidising many of the events and activities over the year to ensure as many of our members as possible can take part in everything we have organised. We have agreed as a Board of Trustee that the level of support we have already given will continue throughout the 2026/27 years programme. However, we would ask that if any parent or carer would like to be considered for financial support so that their child(s) can attend as many events as possible to please contact our GVL (Jemma) directly. Any such request will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Safeguarding and the Safety of our young members has never been so important as it is at this time and as a BOT, we are dedicated to ensuring, we bring the best in Scouting to the forefront of the 82[nd] Bristol Scout Group. This year has seen the formation of our Squirrel Drey at the 82[nd] which caters to the 4 to 6-year-olds and thanks to Jemma and her newly formed dedicated team has been a huge success. We can now offer scouting to young people from 4 to 14 with some scouts taking on the roles of explorer young leaders up to the age of 18. The success of our scout group lies entirely on our leadership team, again, my sincere thanks for all your hard work and dedication. Week after week you support, encourage, and actively work with all our young people in achieving a steady growth in all our sections to the point we are now at maximum capacity without the appointment of more leaders and adults joining our group. I would like to personally thank all those parents who have sign up for the parent rota, who without your support would mean some sessions would have had to be cancelled. For those parents and carers who have not yet participated please take an evening a term and come along and support a section. They say that change is not only inevitable but crucial in the way we develop and grow. Having a firm and strong structure in place in both our BOT and Leadership Teams is essential for the continued growth of our Scout Group. The work you do is invaluable and as we progress into 2026/7. From everyone on the BOT we hope we will be able to help and assist you whenever, wherever, and however that might be. From fire station visits to sports, not to mention cooking, games, and crafts. The Leadership Team have really packed it all in. The varied and action-packed programme is thanks to an AMAZING team of Leaders whom I have the pleasure of working alongside. What they do really does go above and beyond their volunteer roles with them spending HOURS and HOURS setting up, planning, and delivering such a high-quality programme which has led to the group remaining so popular and spaces in such high demand. Over the past year, we have seen 557 badges earnt across the 4 sections which is incredible. This year has also seen some brilliant joint nights, including bonfire night with a firework display, a Christmas trip to the cinema and an Easter party (complete with an Easter Egg hunt). All of the events were huge successes and has seen the other sections welcome the new Squirrels brilliantly. We have gained a new member to our Leadership Team this year– Emma who has joined us within our Squirrel Drey. Our Leadership team now consists of 9 adult volunteers and 5 Young Leaders. Although our Leadership team have ensured huge success this year -we are desperately on the lookout for additional helpers to boost our Leadership Team. We have seen so many successes this year, many of which are being celebrated during our Annual Parents and Friends evening, but I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight a few: Our first ever Disney themed summer camp saw over 50 members join us over the weekend for an action-packed weekend. We cannot wait for our Wild West Summer camp in July– which is on track to be our biggest camp EVER! We were so incredibly proud of everyone who turned up to our group only Remembrance Day celebration which including a small parade from the Scout HQ to St Bernadette’s Church. Thank you to all the parents who supported us with the walk and stayed for the services. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 4 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ _April 2026_ As a group we attended the District Gang show in February, which saw one of our very own Cubs – Jasmine Toto perform. We were so proud of you Jasmine; the show was great! In March we attended another successful PGL activity camp, which saw 18 members visit PGL Liddington for 4 action packed days. Cubs and Scouts took part in a range of activities, from climbing to zip wire, problem solving to frisbee golf. We could not have been prouder of how the children that attending represented our group – getting stuck in with absolutely everything, behaving exceptionally and showing such fantastic teamwork. Our huge thanks go to the Board of Trustees for their support finically to make the trip possible, it really is such an incredible experience for those that attend. We cannot believe our PGL 2027 trip to Osmington Bay is already fully booked. We are also grateful to all our members who attend the recent District St George’s Day parade – everyone looks so smart and behaved incredibly. A special well done to the Squirrel Scouts for completing their first official parade! Thank you Lucas, Olivia, Barney and Corabella for carrying the flags. We were also proud that we were selected out of all the groups within the district to help take part in the services and a special well done to Jack, Rory, Amelie and Jasmine who led the district in renewing their promises. While we appreciate the parades/services are not as exciting to the children as attending fundays/camps/trips they are an important part of being a member of a uniformed organisation and are only twice a year. We are grateful to the families who support their children and help us to re-enforce how proud they should be to be part of the Scout Association. We hope to see an increase in those that attend these parades next year. We are now looking forward to both of our upcoming trips one to St. Fagans in May and one to Crealy in June. Looking to September we already have an action-packed year in store for next year with more camps and more activities to make 2027 equally action packed. We cannot wait to share the details with you all. The success of the Scout Group this year has been thanks to the combined dedication and help of many people and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank several people. A big thank you goes to all of our Leadership Team (Debbie, Clare, Tracey, Angela, Jess, Millie, Niamh, Emma, Daniel, Hollie, Louis, Tom and Charlie) You really are the reason for our success and without each of you our group would not be what it is today. I am so lucky to be the Group Leader Volunteer of the 82[nd] - it really is such a privileged to work with such a dedicated and incredible team. We are SO lucky to have you all. Another big thank you goes to Josie, Emily and Elly who although they do not hold official leadership positions give up their time to support sections weekly and without you this would not be possible. One last thank you goes to Steve (our chairman) for everything he does, which really is far, far, more than the role of a chairman. Thank you for being the glue that holds the group together and the HOURS and HOURS of work you do in the background that may go unseen but NEVER unappreciated. For everyone’s continuous support, dedication and help whether it be as a Leader, Young Leader, those that sit on our Board of Trustees, occasional helpers, Parents or Guardians I would like to thank you all for everything that you have done to make the 82[nd] such a success this year. Volunteers are not unpaid because they are worthless but because they are priceless.” ## **Jemma Brown** ## **Group Lead Volunteer** ## **Squirrel Drey Report** If you would have told me at our Parents and Friends Celebration Evening (AGM) last year that this year I would be writing two reports, I would have never believed you! As many of you know, since the introduction of Squirrel Scouts 5 years ago as Group Lead Volunteer it has always been a dream of mine to have our own Squirrel Drey at the 82nd. Well, this year was that year and WHAT A YEAR it has been! Inspired by my daughter who has been incredibly lucky to have grown up in Scouting around the MOST amazing young people and a team of inspirational adults – I saw how desperate she has always been to officially be a member of our wonderful Scouting family – and to a toddler waiting until you turn almost 6 feels like a lifetime. I always hoped that we would be able to have a Squirrel Drey at the 82nd – but with constant leadership shortages and ensuring the rest of the group remained a success it wasn’t a priority. I am beyond grateful to the members of the 82nd Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and Teresa from the District Team who helped me see that perhaps there wouldn’t ever be “a right time” and that a leap of faith was what was needed. After one random text to a previous school colleague (Emma) who agreed to join me in this crazy adventure there was no looking back. Fast forward 6 months and we have 18 Squirrel Scouts and a HUGE waiting list. Seeing how much our littlest Scouts have achieved within these 6 months has made all the hard work worth it. We have had visits from the police and guided dogs, visited Pets at Home and the Fire Station, taking part in a range of badges, attended out first ever Squirrel Scout Funday and took part in our first District parade. We have also had a special movie Christmas night and an Easter party with the Beavers. We have been lucky enough to have had 2 joint nights with the Beavers which we hope will support those moving up in September. _April 2026_ _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 6 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ Squirrels have worked towards many badges this year, including All about me, all about adventure, Let’s Celebrate, Local Superhero, be active and feel-good badges. We are also excited to be presenting our first ever top Acorn award at our parents and friends evening at the end of the year. Within the first week of starting, we had 4 Squirrels attend our group Remembrance Day Parade in November– a huge well done to Evelyn for being the first ever Squirrel to carry our flag! Squirrels had an amazing time at the Squirrel Funday in March – our first ever Squirrel Day trip could not have been more successful. The squirrels represented our group incredibly well and were so brave trying so many new activities. We also had some many compliments on our new 82[nd] coats which they looked so smart wearing. A huge thank you to the Board of Trustees for making this possible. We were blown away by the Squirrel Drey turn out for our recent St George’s Day parade – 12 of our 18 members attended. They should be all so proud. They looked so smart and behaved so well, especially when walking to the church and throughout the service. A special well done to Corabella for carrying the flag and Jack for leading the promise in front of everyone! Looking to the future- we are excited to have 15 of our Squirrels attending our Group Summer in July which is sure to be an action-packed weekend for them! The success of the Squirrel Drey has been thanks to the combined dedication and help of many people and therefore I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank several people: A big thank you goes to all of our Squirrel Team – Emma, Josie, Louis and Emily who have worked tirelessly to ensure Squirrels has been such a success this year - I really could not have done it without you, and I will forever be grateful for you making Squirrels at the 82[nd] possible. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 7 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ _April 2026_ A thank you also to Chloe who was involved with the initial start-up of Squirrels and to our recent junior volunteer Jasmin and Darcey (who returned from university to the summer and immediately offered her support) for adding extra support to help us with our summer programme. Another person who needs a huge thank you is Steve because you have been the BIGGEST supporter of the new section and your help was invaluable particular at the beginning with helping with grant applications, paperwork, purchasing new signage, sourcing smaller uniform t shirts and helping me set up weekly (with Lorenzo often in tow) until I found my feet. Thank you for once again doing something above and beyond your role as chairperson! I am so grateful that no matter how crazy or wild my aspirations are for the 82nd you support me 100% and do everything you can to make it possible. We are also so grateful to our amazing and supportive parents – who firstly trusted your little ones in our care at the start of this new adventure and for those of you who offer help, no matter how small. It is ALWAYS greatly appreciated! We are so exciting for you to have joined our 82[nd] family and we look forward to many years of adventures together as your children grow and move through the sections. My final (and biggest) thank you goes to all the Squirrels for all their hard work and enthusiasm and for always being able to make us laugh! You make all the hard work, time and effort worthwhile. I really have had the MOST amazing time returning to running a section weekly and I cannot wait to see what next year has in store for us. We are on the lookout for support with Squirrel Scouts in September to allow us to continue to run a high quality and varied programme while also enabling us to continue to introduce new members – this does not need to be in a Leadership capacity and could just be as a parent helper happy to help run a few sessions a term to support ratios. If anyone is interested, please speak to a member of our team…. We would love to have you. ## Jemma Brown ## **Squirrel Drey Leader** ## **Beaver Colony Report** This year has seen our number rise and fall as well as our weekly attendance. Despite this we have issued a total of 112 challenge and activity badges, including 3 Bronze awards which were awarded at Christmas. We have had a very busy programme which has included a visit from the local Police, Pond dipping and mini beast hunting at the Callington Road Nature Reserve. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 8 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ _April 2026_ Some of the Badges that we worked on include Camp Craft, Communication, Experiment, Cook, Navigation and Builder as well as working towards the challenge badges and the top bronze award. We also had a sleepover in December where the Beavers worked towards a blanket badge “Elf Challenge”. During the sleepover we baked mini-Christmas cakes from scratch as well as decorating them. We also made stitched Christmas cards, decorations, played games and watched a Christmas film. For Remembrance we made some Poppy lanterns as well as attending the parade. This year was the first year we have taken the group to the Beaver funday, and we all really enjoyed it. The day was full of activities which included soft archery and axe throwing, low ropes, climbing wall and Den building. We had time on trampolines, go karts, frisbee golf, tunnelling on a bus and laser tag. There were option to make things in a quieter space, but we didn’t get time for that with ours preferring to be out on the activities. We would also like to thank all those who have helped this year, especially our young Leaders Tom and Charlie. Debbie & Clare **Beaver Colony Leaders** ## **Cub Pack Report** Another fabulous year of scouting has now come to an end and we have packed so much into that time and you have all achieved so much. Since starting back in September, we have worked on completing or towards 26 badges including teamwork, entertainer, environmental conservation and life skills/home help. This year we would have awarded 105 cub badges with 92 further cub badges to be awarded by the end of September which is incredible. We are so pleased that our Cub section has also continued to flourish over the year, now consisting of 29 Cubs with an ever-growing waiting list and troop of Beavers ready to transition up. We are also very pleased that during this Cub scouting year we have been able to present a silver award to Isabella Britton with many others well on their way to achieving theirs in the next scouting year. Well done!! We ended the last scouting year in true style with a brilliant summer camp that was pirate themed for ‘Treasure Island’. The fancy dress at are campfire was incredible (even though it rained) with brilliant participation and enthusiasm!! The cubs did us proud with our Saturday activity trip to Ninja Warriors. We then had a range of activities lead by the _April 2026_ _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 9 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ leadership team using team treasure passports. The cubs were a true pleasure to take away for the weekend and we are very much looking forward to Summer Camp 2026. Our Cubs work incredibly hard each week completing and getting involved in a great range of activities from re-enacting the story of St George to getting involved in emergency first aid badge work, participating in a sports activities towards our athletics badges, being chefs and so much more. We were also lucky to have a visit from a police officer!! The Cubs have also been challenged throughout their year in terms of their communication and encouragement to step out of their comfort zones through our teamwork and team leader challenge badges. A number of Cubs who have achieved great success and progress in these areas which is incredible and makes us so proud as a leadership team. This was further supported when setting personal challenges to each of the cubs for them to achieve over several weeks. Our older Cubs were set the task of being role models and supports for the many new Beavers who have transitioned up to Cubs throughout the last year and they were brilliant. The friendships we have seen blossom through this has been a joy and it’s been such a privilege to see so many of our young people grow in confidence, self-belief and bravery. We have also had some fantastic opportunities this year for Cubs to get involved in from a parading for St George’s Day, PGL and a range of day trips and joint sessions like bonfire night. Our cubs were especially amazing at our Fun Day and Woodhouse. Everyone got stuck in every activity and tried something new, it was a wonderful together and thank you to Jamie and Jack for helping to make this activity day possible (and for being brave enough to try the treetop course). Our Cubs do us proud every time we attend sessions in and out of HQ and during day trips. This was especially true of those Cubs that attended PGL this year. Our Cubs bring a huge smile to our faces when we hear the many compliments from the public about our young people and their positive and polite behaviours. Each of them conquered fears and it’s so wonderful to see them all sign up for another round of 82[nd] PGL next year!! Of course, none of this would have been possible without our Cub leadership team including Angela, Jess and Louis with Darcey returning to help us in our summer term (what a lovely treat!). We also couldn’t do what we do and would have been forced to cancel several sessions without the support of parent helpers; it really has made the world of difference. We would within in this like to share a special thanks to Elly Probert for her support regularly at Cubs and for help running bases and supporting the cub’s section as a whole. Special thanks also needs to go to Jemma our GLV (Group Leader Volunteer) for her tireless effort and commitment to the 82[nd] , organising and planning so many fabulous joint nights, celebrations, trips and camps. Thank you Jemma for all you do to make Scouting at the 82[nd] the success that it is! We would also like to give special thanks to Steve for his commitment to our group and for all the work he does in the background to help scouting at the 82[nd] be the best that it can be. Wednesdays are the best day of the week because of all of you!! ## Angela and Jess ## **Cub Pack Leaders** ## **Scout Troop Report** This year has been an incredibly successful, exciting and rewarding one for our Scout Troop. Throughout the year our Scouts have demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, creativity, teamwork and a willingness to challenge themselves in every activity they have taken part in. It has been wonderful to watch our young people grow in confidence, develop new skills and strengthen and develop new friendships while fully embracing the values and spirit of Scouting. Over the course of the year our programme has offered a wide variety of opportunities and experiences. Activities have included work towards the Creative Challenge Award, Outdoor Challenge Award, Photography Badge and Chef/Baking Challenge. Our Scouts have enjoyed learning practical outdoor skills, developing creativity and building confidence through hands-on experiences and teamwork. As leaders one of our proudest moments of the Scouting year is success of our first ever Charity Car Wash, which was a huge success for the troop and the wider community. Through the hard work, enthusiasm, and teamwork of our Scouts, volunteers and parents we raised an amazing **£450.00** for our chosen charities (Children with Cancer UK, Bristol ARC and Bristol and Weston Hospitals). The event not only demonstrated the Scouts’ commitment to helping others, but also showcased their maturity, responsibility, and willingness to give back to the community by planning and running the event on the day. The effort put in by everyone involved was exceptional and the positive feedback we received from the public made the day even more rewarding. We hope this will become a regular and much-anticipated event in future years. Thank you to all those who supported our Car Wash, through donations, time or attendance. One of the highlights of the year was welcoming the Police for a visit. This gave Scouts the opportunity to learn more about community safety, policing, and teamwork while asking questions and engaging with visiting officers. As well as this one of our activities included a visit from ‘Soulful Skate’ where the Scouts tried longboarding for the first time! These evenings were both educational and enjoyable, and the Scouts represented the troop brilliantly. throughout. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Page 11 of 18_ _Registered Charity No. 287697_ _April 2026_ Another memorable event was our International Cooking Competition, where Scouts explored foods and cultures from around the world. The evening was filled with creativity, teamwork and some fantastic cooking. We were extremely impressed by the effort and enthusiasm shown by every patrol. Of course, Scouting would not be complete without plenty of fun and our Messy Games Night certainly delivered exactly that. The evening was full of laughter, teamwork, friendly competition and if the name didn’t give it away – plenty of mess. Across the year the Scouts have done themselves really proud by earning over **170 badges** collectively. This is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects the dedication, hard work and commitment shown by all of our young people. Every badge earned represents new skills learned, challenges overcome and confidence gained. Scouts have enjoyed some individual events this year including a trip to Woodhouse Park to take part in their JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) event. This allows the Scouts to interact with Scouts in different countries as well as taking part in various activities to work on their international activity badge and various elements of other badges. The day included rifle shooting, wood branding, pioneering, 3D printing, tunnelling, radio interactions, snow tubing, climbing, high ropes and trapeze. Those that joined us were absolutely amazing all day and did so well during every activity! After a little while away we were able to run a Survival Camp in March 2026. The camp provided Scouts with the opportunity to put many of their outdoor and survival skills into practice, including shelter building, fire lighting, pond dipping (which was a huge hit), cooking outdoors, teamwork and problem solving. Despite the challenges that come with survival-style camping, the Scouts approached every activity with determination and positivity. It was fantastic to see them stepping outside of their comfort zones, supporting one another and demonstrating real resilience throughout the weekend. The camp was a tremendous success and will undoubtedly remain one of the defining moments of the scouting year as we look to plan the next one. A huge thank you to Niamh, Daniel, Hollie, Sam and Louis for all their help during camp! None of this year’s successes would have been possible without the continued support and commitment of our extended leadership team, volunteers, parents and carers. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who has helped throughout the year — whether by supporting camps and events, helping with transport, fundraising, badge work, administration or simply encouraging our Scouts week after week. Your support makes an enormous difference and is greatly appreciated. I would personally like to thank our Scout Team – Niamh, Daniel and Hollie for all of their time, effort and encouragement during this year. You are all incredible human beings, and your talents and skills bring so much to our troop. Our weekly meetings and events would not be possible without your enthusiasm, support and skills. Thank you! Most importantly, we would like to thank our Scouts themselves. Their energy, kindness, determination and sense of adventure are what make the troop such a positive and enjoyable place to be. Watching them grow and succeed throughout the year has been incredibly rewarding for all of the leaders. Looking ahead, we are excited for another busy and adventurous year of Scouting. We have an exciting programme of camps, activities and challenges planned, and we are particularly looking forward to working towards the Expedition Award. This will provide some of our older Scouts with the opportunity to continue progressing towards achieving their Gold Award — a fantastic accomplishment that reflects dedication, leadership and perseverance. They consist of a Royal Charter, which in turn gives authority to the Bye Laws of the Association and The Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. The Scout Group is a trust established under its rules, which are common to all Scouts. In the absence of an existing Scout Group Constitution, the 82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group has formally adopted that of the Scout Association detailed in Chapter 5 of The Scout Association Policy, Rules and Regulations (P.O.R), currently in force at the time of the AGM and accepted by the Scout Group Council. The Trustees are appointed in accordance with the current issue of (P.O.R.) At the heart of our role is a focus on strategy, performance, and assurance. As charity trustees we are responsible for complying with legislation applicable to charities. This includes the registration, keeping proper accounts and making returns to the Charity Commission as appropriate. The Board of Trustees (BOT) currently consists of ex officio members and appointed members. Full details of the structure, eligibility, and size of the board of trustees can again be found on the link on our Group website. The BOT meet approximately every 3 months. All members of the BOT must complete several on-line mandatory training modules as soon as practically possible after becoming a Trustee. This BOT exists to support the Group Volunteer Lead, in meeting the responsibilities of the appointments and is responsible for: - complying with the charity’s governing document and the law - managing the charity’s resources responsibly - The charity is operating compliant with POR, including effective management of the Key Policies listed in chapter 2 - The Equal Opportunities Policy, Privacy and Data Protection Policy, Religious Policy, Safeguarding Policy, Safety Policy, Vetting Policy, Youth Member Anti-bullying Policy. - Young people are meaningfully involved in decision making at all levels. - The Scout Group has a positive image in the local community. - Ensure that people, property and equipment are appropriately insured, and that any property and equipment owned or used by the charity is properly protected and maintained. - Promote and support the development of Scouting in the local area. - Ensure the appointment and management and operation of any sub-committees. - Appoint any Administrators, Advisers, and co-opted members to the BOT. - Ensure transparency of operation ## **Risk Management and Internal Control** The Scout BOT has identified the major risks to which they believe the Scout Group is exposed, these have been reviewed and systems have been established to mitigate against them. The main areas of concern that have been identified are: - **Damage to the building, property and equipment.** The Scout Group would request the use of buildings, property and equipment from neighbouring organisations such as a church, community centre and other Scout Groups. We would offer similar reciprocal arrangements with these organisations. The Scout Group has sufficient buildings and contents insurance in place to mitigate against permanent loss. - **Injury to leaders, helpers, supporters, and members** . The Scout Group through the subscription fees contributes to the Scout Associations national accident insurance policy. Occasional helpers are covered under a separate insurance policy. Risk Assessments are undertaken before all Scout activities. - **Reduced income from fund raising.** The Scout Group is primarily reliant upon income from subscriptions and fundraising. The Scout Group does hold a reserve to ensure the continuity of activities should there be a major reduction in income. The BOT could raise the value of subscriptions to increase the income to the Scout Group on an ongoing basis, either temporarily or permanently. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Registered Charity No. 287697 Page 16 of 18_ _April 2026_ - **Reduction or loss of Leaders.** The Scout Group is totally reliant upon volunteers to run and administer the activities of the Scout Group. If there were a reduction in the number of leaders to an unacceptable level in a particular section or the Scout Group then there would have to be a contraction, consolidation, or closure of a section and in the worst-case scenario the complete closure of the Scout Group. - **Reduction or loss of members** . The Scout Group provides activities for all young people aged 6 to 18. If there were a reduction in membership in a particular section or the Scout Group then there would have to be a contraction, consolidation, or closure of a section and in the worst-case scenario the complete closure of the Scout Group. The Scout Group has in place systems of internal controls that are designed to provide reasonable assurance against material mismanagement or loss; these include 2 different authorities for all payments and a comprehensive insurance policy to ensure that insurable risks are covered. ## **Objectivities and Activities** ## **The Purpose of Scouting** Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. ## **The Values of Scouting** As Trustees for a Scout Group, we are guided the values of Scouting which are: **Integrity** - We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy, and loyal. **Respect** - We have self-respect and respect for others. **Care** - We support others and take care of the world in which we live. **Belief** - We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes. **Co-operation** - We make a positive difference; we co-operate with others and make friends. ## **The Scout Method** Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and: - Enjoy what they are doing and have fun. - Take part in activities indoors and outdoors. - Learn by doing. - Share in spiritual reflection. - Take responsibility and make choices. - Undertake new and challenging activities. - Make and live by their Promise. ## **Public Benefit Statement** The Scout Group meets the Charity Commission's public benefit criteria under both the advancement of education and the advancement of citizenship or community development headings. ## **Achievements and Performance.** Separate reports from the GLV, the Chairman’s and Treasurers report for an overview of the work carried out over the last 12-month period are available to view on the Scout Groups website. ## **Financial Review** ## **Reserve Policy** The Scout Group's policy on reserves is to hold sufficient funds to continue the charitable activities of the Scout Group should income and fundraising activities fall short. The Scout BOT considers that the Scout Group should hold a sum of 12 months running cost, circa £12,000 - £14,000. The Scout Group held reserves of £ £44,196 against this at year-end. This is slightly lower than last year, but the income was boosted by higher income from scout premises hire than expected (additional £3085). It is the intention of the BOT to instruct the leadership team to continuing fulfilling our Reserve Policy statement. The policy to include but not exclusive to: - - Resolution by BOT (February 2024) to continue to subsidise future Scout Group activities, transportation and residential camps until further notice but for not less than 2 years. _82[nd] Bristol (St. Bernadette) Scout Group Registered Charity No. 287697 Page 17 of 18_ _April 2026_ - A schedule of expenditure to replace existing worn and damaged camping equipment. - To ensure the Scout premises is maintained to a high standard replacing worn or out of date equipment and appliances. - Reserves for future improvements and running costs to the Scout HQ premises during the period whilst the Scout premises cannot be used either for Scout meetings or prolonged period of being unable to permit private hire to the premises. ## **Investment Policy** The Scout Group’s income and expenditure is relatively small and consequently does not have sufficient funds to invest in longer-term investments such as stocks and bonds. The BOT has therefore adopted a low-risk strategy to the investment of its funds. All funds are held in cash using only a mainstream bank (Lloyds PLC). The BOT regularly monitors the levels of bank balances and the interest rates received to ensure the Scout Group obtains maximum value and income from its banking arrangements.
