Report of the Trustees

Objectives and Activities

The trust was established by Zvi Hans Schloss in 1983 as a vehicle for his charitable donations. After his death in 2016, its activities slowed down considerably until the current trustees were appointed in 2020.

The trust makes grants to other charities and non-profit prganisations in support of Education, Health, Religion, the Relief of Poverty, and the Amelioration of the Deleterious Effects of Climate Change, anywhere in the World.

Structure, Governance and Management

Decisions as to where the trust makes grants are made solely by the trustees. The trustees meet informally but regularly to ensure all legal requirements are met, to ensure proper policies and procedures in respect of all financial controls, investment decisions and possible conflicts of interests.

The trust has no employees, and the trustees receive no remuneration, payments or benefits from the charity.

Achievements and Performance

The main source of income for the trust remains donations by members of the family of Zvi Hans Schloss. The trust does not actively raise funds from the public, but should any such donations happen they would of course be welcomed. The trust does not have any trading or other subsidiaries.

During the year under review, income was considerably boosted by a large donation from Eva Schloss.

Financial Review

The trust has a Community Directplus current account with the Co-operative bank since 2020, and this year opened an instant access savings account and a 95 day saving accounts, also with the Co-operative bank.

The trust is in a healthy financial position. The trustees decided to keep the level of grants awarded approximately similar to that in recent years, and to invest the Eva Schloss donation in the savings accounts and make grants from the interest earned.

During this financial year, the trust received £69,880 in donations and trustees made grants of £7,884.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the Zvi Hans Schloss Charitable Trust

I report on the accounts of the trust which are set out on pages 2-3 of the Annual Report and Accounts for 2022-2023.

In accordance with the charity commission guidance for trustees available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/independent-examination-of-charityaccounts-trustees-cc31/independent-examination-of-charity-accounts-trustees the trustees have chosen to appoint an independent examiner as the trust’s gross income for the year is between £25,000 and £1,000,000; they are not required to appoint an examiner who is a member of one of the accountancy bodies provided that the person can “demonstrate sufficient financial awareness, numeracy skills and relevant experience to carry out the work and make the judgements required”.

It is my responsibility to:

The procedures I have undertaken do not involve gathering all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ”true and fair view” and my report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination of the information provided to me by the trustees. I confirm that no matter has come to my attention:
