BIRCHFIELD COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – CHARITY NUMBER 287509
TRUSTEES REPORT FOR YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2024
It has been very much business as usual this year at the Community Centre. The centre has been well maintained and well used by the local community. We started the year by renewing all of the curtains in both halls which has made a big difference in the look of the place. We also upgraded the Urinals in one of our gent’s toilets.
At the AGM we decided to start putting together our own website to give us a higher profile and to make it easier for people to find us. Joseph Croker, one of our committee members said he is happy to build it with everyone having an input and hopes to complete it by next year May 2025. (htps://birchfeldcommunity.co.uk). We also decided to cancel our usual summer meeting. This turned out to be a mistake as we were very busy working with third parties and outside projects.
In August we joined the newly formed Birchfield Action Group. (BAG). BAG is a group of local residents and organisations who are working together for positive change in the Birchfield Community. We have also struck up a relationship with sparkssomerset.org.uk who have started running a digital Café in conjunction with donateit.co.uk and sponsored by ABRI the local social housing group and ourselves. Sparks Somerset have also been helping us with some of our paperwork and updating some of our policies.
At the request of Birchfield Action Group, we set up a uniform rail to supply local children with donated school uniform free of charge, with access to the community every Tuesday. The Centre has also offered free use of one of our halls for uniform swaps/free/sale sessions if required.
We have had a defibrillator next to our entrance for two years now and it has been accessed a couple of times. Hopefully at no loss of life. We hope to add an emergency bleed kit in the near future.
We have recently teamed up with Able2achieve.org.uk who come once a month and do litter picking and weeding. We are grateful for the help they give us and hope to find some more demanding tasks as time goes on. We are also working with Discovery.org.uk. and their STEPS program of work experience clearing a large area of Brambles in the new year, following a request from the school next door.
We look forward to another busy year helping fulfil our community’s needs.
