## Beresford Road 

Another year passes by and the one thing we can say as a church is that the Lord provides. Without question, it has been a turbulent year, as we have struggled with more folk leaving the church and less money coming in to support the activities and the upkeep of the buildings, regular bills and the cost of the Pastor. 

In October it was very clear that we could no longer pay our pastor, so we explored the idea again of joining with Commodore Mission. However, it was obvious that this would not be right, either for them or us. Therefore, we had to take the very hard decision to make our Pastor redundant. We knew that we only had a small window to have the meetings and make the decisions, due to the financial situation, with the knowledge that we needed to make sure we could afford to pay a redundancy package. Our Pastor recognised the issues and humbly accepted the redundancy, gracefully saying that we had no option and we had made the right decision. 

Following this decision, those in leadership have taken on responsibilities of leading the church and preaching on a Sunday and leading the Wednesday night prayer and bible study. This has been a challenge, but has also brought new opportunities for others in the fellowship to develop skills and it has given the those attending the meetings a variety of different styles of services. The membership has been very supportive and have embraced the changes made. We continue to seek God in how he wants us to proceed into next year. We are blessed in the fact that whilst we have had to make the pastor redundant, he has not had to leave the fellowship, and still takes an active role in the leadership of the Church. 

Sunday morning and evening services have become regular again. These are on both zoom and in-person. The Sunday school continues, with a few regular children in attendance and the parent and toddler group ran up to July of 2022. This has stopped due to there not being a person able to lead this; it is something we look forward to resuming at some point in the future. 

## Footprints – Community Coffee drop in. 

This continues at the church on a Monday and Friday morning. It is now well established and well attended. Those who have attended the Food In School Holidays, come along to this as well and it is a way of supporting families with their well being a different times, and not just in the holidays. 

## CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) 

This is an ongoing process, and we have nearly completed the formalities. We hope the application will be submitted during 2023. 



## A local pantry 

Last year we were beginning to explore the possibility of expanding our help to families from FISH with the idea of a local pantry. This has been quite a lengthy process and we are now in a position, where the church is opening this venture. It has been spearheaded by two of our congregation who run the coffee drop in mornings and FISH. We have also had the backing of Fair Share to support the project. This has meant changing the way we use some of our rooms in the building, giving one over to be the designated store for food. This allows us to support vulnerable members of the community with basic food and non-perishable items – such as toiletries. For a few pounds, people can purchase up to around £20 worth of goods. Food and items are donated by the public and other charities or purchased by the church. These are delivered and then distributed on the days we run the coffee drop ins. This only started in March, but we hope that this will be the start of many in the community being able to come into the church for the first time. In conjunction with this venture, we have been visited by the High Sheriff of Suffolk and our local MP. They have given their full backing to this and we have received a number of grants from the council and other community areas, to help support the work. 

## Building works 

We continue to maintain our outside areas and buildings. This year, in light of the pantry starting, we have changed one of our rooms upstairs, to be the pantry. This has involved a significant clearing out of items from the church. The room has been stripped and re-vamped, making it a suitable room for this service. In addition, we have decorated the main sanctuary of the church, toning the brightness of white walls down to a pale grey, helping those whom suffer with migraines. 

## Into 2023/24 

We continue to seek God’s guidance and leadership as we look forward to another year. We want to explore how, as a church, we can continue supporting the local community and seek guidance as to how we grow and develop as a fellowship, without a full time pastor. 

All matters which should concern the trustees, that are financial, social inclusion, child protection, criminal records bureau, racism and general transparency within the community and in the larger area of Christian unity and fellowship, have been kept continuously under review.

## INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF BERESFORD ROAD EVANGELICAL CHURCH 

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 March 2023 that are set out on Pages 3 to 4. 

## Responsibilities and basis of report 

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## Independent examiner's statement 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I confirm that there are no other matters to which your attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
