The report is prepared in accordance with the Charity's Constitution and the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities, and complies with applicable law. Governing Document The Orchestra is a registered charity govemed by a constitution adopted in 1987, and revised in 2022. Objects of the Charity The promotion, development and maintenance of public education in, and the appreciation of the art and science of orchestral music in all its aspects by the presentation of public concerts and by such other ways as the Orchestra shall determine. Summary of Activities The Orchestra's autumn Concerts in Plymouth and Liskeard featured the amazing soloist, Alexandra VThittingham, recognised by The Guardian as "a young 216t-century virtuoso.. Alexandra played a well-received performance of Rodrigo's 'Concierto de Aranjuez,, a concerto for classical guitar. The programme also included 'The Force of Destiny Overture; by Verdi, 'La Merf by Debussy, 'Alborada del Gracioso, and 'Bolero' by Ravel. The March concerts in Plymouth and Liskeard opened with Mozart's 'Overture to The Magic Flute, followed by an outstanding performance of Dvorak's Cello Concerto featuring the very talented soloist, Maxim Calver. The second half of the concert staged the very popular 'Symphony No 7, by Beethoven. For the summer concerts, again in Plymouth and Liskeard, the Orchestra were delighted to be joined by young soloist Charlotte Spruit who played Tchaikovsky's violin concerto beautifully. The orchestra also played 'Academic Festival Overture, by Brahms, 'Strike up the Band, and 'An American in Paris, by Gershwin, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The talented string section of the orchestra also included a stunning performance of Barberfs 'Adagio for Strings,. The Orchestra, which has approximately 85 members, is an amateur group normally meeting weekly for rehearsals at which it prepares programmes of classical music for public performance. Members develop their skills as musicians and are given the opportunity to perform music from across the classical repertoire. Members of all ages are welcomed, and the orchestra has some members of more than thity years standing playing alongside students who have joined the orchestra more recently. The only prerequisite is that they can perform to an appropriate standard As part of its continuing commitment to music education, the Orchestra has, in collaboration with the Plymouth Music Accord, subsidised free tickets for children to attend concerts, often providing them with their first experience of live music. It also welcomes small groups of school children to its pre- concert rehearsal to offer an insight into the way the orchestra functions. Additional Information The Charity continues to seek support for its activities from its members, its 'friends', and through appropriate sponsorship. Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the Accounts (under section 145 of the Act); to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act); and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examiner's statement My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the Accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the Accounts, and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the Accounts. Independent examiner's statement In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: a. to keep accounting records in accordance with section130 of the Act. and b. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act have not been met. and 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached. Incoming Resources Incoming resources represent the amounts derived from grants and other income falling within the Charity's actsvities. Grants Revenue-based grants are credited to the statement of financial activities in the year when received.
