The principal activity of the WSS is to provide support for the Worthing Symphony Orchestra (WSO) for the public benefit in providing eight concerts during the year and providing a free school concert to local school children.
The Trustees of the WSS take due regard of the guidance in public benefit issues issued by the Charity Commission and believe this is reflected in the activities of the WSS.
The support for the WSS, ie the general management, administration, fund raising and so on, is all undertaken by the Trustees and other volunteers. Without the efforts of these individuals the WSS would cease to operate. The WSS has no paid employees.
During the pandemic the WSS supporters were kept informed of the situation through on line digital and printed form supplied by the WSS and the WSO.
Fund Raising
The Society’s fund come mainly from the membership, fund raising events and bequests.
Financial Report
The pandemic caused a financial challenge for the WSO as the early concerts, after COVID-19 restrictions were eased lacked the return of the audience. The WSS supported the WSO with £26,000 towards their costs during this period and are expecting and planning for more support during the financial period 1st July 2022 to 30 June 2023. Until the audiences return to pre-epidemic levels the WSO will require support and these requirements have been build into our four year plan
Structure
The WSS is governed by its Constitution amended on the 25th February 2023 and adopted by the membership at a S.G.M. It is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with Trustees appointed by the membership. The post pandemic AGM was postponed until March 2022 at which time four Trustees were appointed.
