The Association was founded in the early 1980’s and is registered charity number 285843.
The Trustees of the Association were confirmed at a meeting held on 17 April 2021. They are now:

What a year it has been, whether it was the unfortunate changing of dates due to the coronation or a snowstorm trying to stop our national finals! Nothing has been able to prevent the BSGA team pulling together to deliver a range of fantastic events. As I reflected on gymnasts I have seen competing at BSGA competitions over recent years and for some, rightly so, it is the pinnacle of their Gymnastic career representing their school and region at a BSGA national finals. For others, it is a building block in their Gymnastic career. Olympian and current World Floor champion Giarnni Regini-Moran, Double Olympian Danusia Francis, Welsh Commonwealth Gymnast, Jea Maracha and reigning Scottish Champion Lottie Smith, to name a few, have all performed in the BSGA arena, competing with their school teammates, and representing their region. It is incredible to think what these gymnasts have gone on to achieve since moving on from BSGA!
Reviewing what we have achieved this year, I am once again overwhelmed by the incredible commitment of the many volunteers who work on behalf of BSGA. Our regional representatives around the United Kingdom continuously go beyond what could practically be expected of them to deliver fantastic competitions for our school membership. Thank you too all the BSGA executive and those working in the regions and home countries on our behalf, all giving up their time and expertise to enable BSGA to be the successful Association it is.
We have continued to see increased support for our competitions and increased recognition that this physical activity has much to offer in a ‘rounded’ education.
This year several new schools have been able to engrave their name onto trophies for the first time. There was a record number of entries in the trampoline national finals with regions battling for the title in a fantastic atmosphere.
The overall standard across all disciplines improves year on year and some of our traditionally successful teams are increasingly being challenged by this up-and-coming generation of new school gymnasts.
The BSGA accounts indicate we can operate our programme on a budget despite the cost-of-living crisis affecting everyone. I wish to acknowledge the financial support from our main sponsor, the Milano Pro-Sport team in Preston, and our hard working and committed competition organisers that all help to make this possible.
Whilst the association can boast so much success over the 2022/23 season there are still areas where I wish to focus my attention in the coming years to secure a sustainable and valued future for BSGA. The association must attract more schools and more young people into the organisation at both regional and national level, this is essential if we are to give more children the opportunity to benefit from BSGA gymnastics competitions. We need the involvement of many more schools, especially primary schools to feed up through the system. The regeneration of English Schools is no doubt helping to encourage more interest in the sport at the grass roots level. The building of a succession strategy that involves more young volunteer officials and judges in the finals of regional and national events will ensure an enduring legacy for the association. It is important to remember the association offers GymFest, which is a fun and more relaxed side to the association with ample potential to grow.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE BRITISH SCHOOLS GYMNASTICS ASSOCIATION** .
I report on the accounts of the Association for the year ended 31 March 2023 set out on the attached pages.
## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, you consider that the audit requirement of S43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under s43(7)(b) of the act whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison for the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention;
1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material aspect, the requirements:
To keep accounting records in accordance with s41 of the Act: and
To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and it comply with the accounting requirements of the Act.
Have not been met, or
2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
