## Trustees Report 2021/2022
The Association was founded in the early 1980’s and is registered charity number 285843.The Trustees of the Association were confirmed at a meeting held on 17 April 2021.
They are now:

The association exists to promote the development of gymnastics throughout Great Britain for young people of school age. BSGA is the governing body for the sport and comprises the National Associations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, plus ten English Regional Associations.
BSGA is continually looking to upgrade its level of service to schools and to members. The association runs a series of competitions that lead from regional to national finals. It runs regional coaching and judging courses. The association operates a school competitions action group to inform members how best to support schools through harmonisation with the work of the senior governing body – British Gymnastics. There are five competitive disciplines that lead to national events.- Floor and Vault, Acrobatics, Tumbling, Rhythmic and Trampoline. The senior governing body took over the male & female elite level Artistic event at National and International level in 2013. In addition, a national gymnastics festival is held in June each year. Although not part of BSGA, we have been working closely with the English Schools Gymnastic Association as it has been reformed to encourage further competitions and participation in the sport of Gymnastics. ESGA organised a novice Floor, Vault & Pairs competition in June 2022. The accounts for the year show the annual turnover and financial reserves of the association. It is plain to see that due to the pandemic very little monies have been received or spent in the academic year 2021-2022.
BSGA no longer receives any income from British Gymnastics to support its competition programme. Our programme is now operated on a self-funding basis. Our aim is to run all events to ‘break-even’ at the end of each financial year. We have a 4-year sponsorship package of £6,000.00 per annum from Milano Pro-Sport which has been extended due to the pandemic. (Originally April 2015 – August 2021) This sponsorship opportunity will be ofered to Milano once again. All members of the association work in a voluntary capacity; there are no paid officials.
The BSGA continues to work on an annual basis and widen the opportunities for increased participation. In 2021/2022 we:
- staged the first Milano Team national finals since the pandemic and the
- national trampoline championships. The trampoline finals used the new improved computer system for schools entering teams and downloading music for national events.
- The first School Gym event is being held in April/May 22 since the pandemic stopped the competition in May 19.
- Continued to support British Gymnastics Rise Gymnastics Scheme competitions as part of the grass roots level programme in Britain.
- Regular zoom meetings, during the pandemic, enabled further refinement of National Competition programme rules following meetings for trampoline, floor and vault, acrobatics and tumbling and produce a new organisers handbook to ensure that all regions are aligned with the National body on how competitions are run.
- School closures meant we were unable to promote the BG Award scheme
- Continued in the use of Skype, Zoom and latterly Teams for executive committee meetings. This medium was also used to create a unified Organiser’s Handbook as a guide to planning a competition.
- Affiliations are down on previous years to the numbers received pre pandemic.
- Social networking via our Facebook link continues to expand with regular engagement from our audiences. It is hoped that publicity here will further promote our work. BSGA is also working closely with our sponsors ‘Milano’ who have a far greater following and reach to raise the profile of BSGA via their social media platforms.
Many of the proposals we had for 2020-2021 were curtailed due to the pandemic and school closures. However as previously stated the Executive committee had many virtual meetings and tidied up a great deal of the proposals and used this time productively to improve the organisation of BSGA
- Fulfil all national competitions with government and the national body approval
- Improve the range of benefits that we can ofer schools, to make annual affiliation a more attractive proposition
- find ways to make all fans of gymnastics in schools and clubs aware of our existence through strategies to raise the profile of BSGA
- Further develop the website, which is now well in hand on Microsoft Teams, and further increase its use including opportunities through social media
- Further promote the disability competitions in regions/home countries for Acrobatics, trampoline and floor & vault
- Increase number of coaches /judges /young officials involved in regional and national events
- Improve knowledge of teachers and those working in a school setting on how to move from RISE(in England) to BSGA events /or similar link in Scotland/Wales/N. Ireland
- Build a succession strategy that involves more young volunteer officials and judges in the finals of regional and national events
- Ensure each England region and each of home nations has sufficient officers to form a committee that will run school gymnastics events
- Continue to run the national schools’ gymnastics festival.
- Further enhance the staging of our national competitions and festival to ensure the experience children and spectators gain is the best it can be.
- Continue to work with the governing body of gymnastics (BG) and other national bodies to deliver and benefit from a more coherent programme for gymnastics in schools
I confirm there is adequate funding in reserve and from the affiliations and grants for the association to meet its full obligations to members in the 2022/23 year.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE BRITISH SCHOOLS GYMNASTICS ASSOCIATION** .
I report on the accounts of the Association for the year ended 31 March 2022 set out on the attached pages
## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**
As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts, you consider that the audit requirement of S43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) does not apply. It is my responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under s43(7)(b) of the act whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner’s Report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison for the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and the seeking of explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
## **Independent Examiner’s Statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention;
1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material aspect, the requirements:
To keep accounting records in accordance with s41 of the Act: and
To prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and it comply with the accounting requirements of the Act.
Have not been met, or
2. To which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
