"The Trustees met three tlmes this year. Each meeting hos substantlally the same principal agenda
items: to review current finance and resources. stsff and employment matters, the Immediate

relevant to their responslbllities. The Trustees believe that they Serve Phllo Trust under God, and
TTU5tee meetlngs are therefore held In the context of devotional and interce550ry Pra￿r.
All policy declslons are reserved to the Trustees, following whlch implementation is delegated to
the stsff under the dlrectlon of J.John. Any signrficant financlal commitment Is referred back to the
Trustee5 before it is agreed and there is close liaison between the Trustees and J.John.

At an early stage new Trustees have the opportunity to meet all key mernber5 of staff and learn
Ilrst-hand about the artlvltles, operatlons and protocols of Phllo TrusL
Each Trustee is encoura8ed to tske responslbilty for a partlcular area of the Trusvs operatlon
commensurate wlth their interest. experieno and proven competence. and thereafter take the
lead when supervlsing that area, and when developing policy and fvture plan
New Trustees are encouraged to identify an area of responslbility In communlcatlon with the Chair
of Trustee5.
New Trustees are nomlnated either by a Trustee or JJohn. After discussion between the Chalr of
Trustees and JJohn. the nominee rneets the presentTrustees; prayer and consideration follows.
Only if there15 unanimous agreement will he or she be appointed to the Board. Decisions are
made between the Trustées after prayer, discussion and unanimous a8reerr*nt betsveen all
Trustees and JJohn.
Financial review
The 2023-2024 financial year has contlnued to see business as normal for Phllo TrusL We have
contlnued with our broèdcastlng events as well as In-person events. Intematlonal travel has also
returned to re8ul3r patterns following COVID-19, with fourtrips thi5 past year.
Followlng on from the sucossful productlon of the ju5tlO Series, we revised and produced a new
handbook to accompany the vlde05. We also prndU￿d Heroes of the Falth.. Volume 2 and
Christmas ot the Movies, whi¢h meant our resources sales have contlnued to increase on the
prevlous year. Expendlture has been reduced broadly in line with income, resultln8 in 3 deficit for
the year.
At the end of the flrst quarter. Income appears consSstent wlth last year and we are expectingto
be 51i8htly above the budgeted level.
Reserves policy
The Trustees have established a pollcy whereby the unre5trlcted general funds not comrnltted or
invested In tangible fixed assets and stock I'the free reseNes'l held by the charity should not be
le55 than three months, normal runnin8 costs of the following yearfs budgeted expenditure. The
expendlture bud8et for the 2024-2025 year Shov￿ a quarterly budgeted amount of £218.063.
Philo Trust had free resen￿5 (excluding those Invested In flxed assets. stock and those held In
designated fundsl at 31 March 2024 of £310,074 for whith the Trustees are very grateful. The
Trustees review this pollcy and the level from time to tlme.

Risk policy
The Trustees review rnajor risks to which the tharity is exposed, and sy5tem5 have been
e5tabli5hed to mitigate those risks wherever p055ible. These sy5terns are revlewed perlodlcally to
ensure best prartice is established forthe needs of the charity.
The Trustees have adopted a risk mana8ement ststement and policy and established a risk
register. Thts enables them to rank risks according to probability and severity.

The Trustees re8ularly dlscuss any potentlal areas which miy cause
reputational hami to the charity and any necessary actlon requlred15

Funding
Philo Trust constsntly seeks to wlden its donor base and entouragÈ rè8ular
donatlons. In order to provlde stablllty durln8 perlods of low income Philo
Trust seek5 to maintain sufficient liquid re5erve5.

The Trustees have consldered the Charlty Commlsslon's general guidance on public benefft and, In
particular, the specific guldance on charTrtles for the advancement of religion, when ievlewlng the
Trusvs aim5 and oblertlves and in planning future artlvltles and settlng the grant-makln8 pollcy for
the year.
The Trustees have, In theirview. met the public benefrt requirement by holdlng a varlety of events
acr055 the world which are open to the general public and which seek, In accordance with thelr
vlslon. to transfom Ilves and thus enable people to Ilve as responsible citizens in thelr communlty.

Responsibilities of Trustees
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustee￿ Report and the flnancial ststements in
accordanre with appllcable law and Unlted Kingdom Accountln8 Standards (Unlted Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accountlng Practice).
The law appllcable to charities In England and Wale5 requires the Trustees to prepare financial
ststements for each flnancial year whl¢h 8lve a true and falr view of the state of affairs in the
charfty and of the In¢oming resour¢es and appllcation of resources of the charity for that period.
In preparlng these flnanclal statements, the Trustees are required to:
• selert suitable accounting policies and then apply them conslstently;
observe the methods and princlples in the Charities SORP;

• make judgements and estSmates that are reasonable and prudent;

The Trustees are responslble for keeping accountln8 records that disclose wlth reasonèble
accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the
financial statements comply with the Charitie5 Act 2011, the Chartty IAccounts and Reports)
Regulations 21X)8 and Trust deed.
They are also responsible for safeguardlng the assets of the charity and hence for taking
reasonable Steps for the prevention and detertion of fraud and other Irregularities.

We, the Trustees of the charity, confirm, so far as we are aware. that:

Message from Chair of
Trustees
This annual report allows me the opportunlty to pause, reflect and give thanks for all of the ways
that we have seen God at work through the ministry of Philo Twst thi5 last year. Alon8 wlth my
fellow Trustees, we do not take for granted the privile8e of wltnessing the incredible things that
God has done as we have sought to all8n ourselves wlth him and hi5 will.
As in previous years, the staff team have held one 81ble verse for the year. The verse thls year was
Romans 15.13: 'May the God of hopefill you with ollioy ondpeate os you trurtin hirn 50 thatyou
moy overflow wlth hope by the power of the HolySw'rlt.'
The Dirertorfs Report on the followlng pages report5 on the work that has been achieved thi5 year,
but from my posltion as Chair of Trustees. I truly believe that the joy. peace and hope that Is
mentloned In the Bible verse ha5 truly pemieated into the way that each of ourteam members
has gone about thelr work and ministry. Th5s has been a Joy to wltnes5.
Slnce the formation of Philo Trust there have been numerous opportunlttes for In-person ministry.
This year, JJohn and Kilty have Served the church around the UK, USA, Singapore, Greece and
Australla. As ever. mlnlstry has focused on proclamation evangellsm, equipping Christian5 to share
their faith, and mentoring other evangellsts.
We co￿lnue to produce resources for evangelism and ft has been wonderful to see a number of
new print fesources made avallable thls year. notably a booklet to commemorate the Icthh
anniversary of Eric Liddell's vlctory In the Parls 1924 Olympi¢s.
On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to take this opportunityto thank Jjohn. Killy and the staff
team and contractors we have worked with who have been exemplary In all that they have done
in this last year. I would like to extend my own gratitude to our frfends, supporters and donors.
Thelr support has enabled this important work and mlnlstry to reach hundred5 of thousands of

We have had many opportunities to share the relevance of Christianity In thls year and l am
dell8hted to share them with you in this report.
Evangelism through Proclamation
We are committed to proclaiming the Good News of Christianity across the UK and around the
world. Thi5 year, we have witnessed an increased number of people in tears a5 they have
responded to the gospel. We believe that thi5 15 a Sign of people experlendng new-found hope in
the mldst of the trlals that many people encounter In day-to-day Ilfe.
Evangelism through Training
We are comrnltted to tralnlng Christlans to share thelr falth. This yearwe have had a number of
opportunities to tfdin and equip Chrirtians to share thelr falth through friendship evangelism. Kllly
and I have spoken at a number of overseas training events in Singapore. Australla, Florfda and
Dallas.
Evangelism through Mentoring
We are committed to mentorlng and coachlng other evangelists. The annual Evangeli5
Conference continue5 to bring together evangellsts from all over the UK and increasingly from
overseas. We have held a significant number of one-ttrone meeting5 With other evangellsts.
Evangelism through Resources
Our re50urce5 continue to be used by churches and Chrlstians to Èncourage those with no faith to
better understand Christianity. Our range of digital resources. broadcast content and other dlgltal
medla contlnues to be wldety used by many churches and indlvlduals worldwide.

Our opportunities: Proclamation
Proclamatlon evangelism events are opportunltles to creatively and clearly communlcate the
Christian message and encourage people in their journey of falth. We work In partnership with
local churches to support their ministry and wider tommunlty.
Across the Unlted Klngdom
As part of our commltment to help the church In the UK build stron8 foundatlons to share the
Good Nèws of Jesus, we have endeavoured to travel broadly to churthes of varying sizes and
denomlnations. Where posslble we focus on events that a widè variety of the public can acce55
free of charge or with a nomlnal cost to attend. With good 5UPPOrt from Phllo Trust staff, we we
able to travel, speak and see many encouragln8 responses. Thi5 year we partnered wfth,.
Kenslngton Templè. Nottln8 Hlll: I preached two evan8ellstic sermons at Kenslngton
Temple in London.
St PauV5, Hadley Wood: I spoke at thls local Anglican thurch.
DARE Conference, Northampton: I spoke to 1,000 women who gathered at the Old Savoy
Theatre In Northampton from across the UK. Hosted by Elim Northampton, this conference
sought to build up women to discover and use
their gifts to make God's lovè known wlthin their
communltles.
One church, Lekester: I preached at two
evangelistlc Sunday services as part of a
weekend of events reachSnE the wider
community.

Throughout the year I spoke several time5 at My home church, Christchurch in Chorleywood. We
have found the Support of our church invaluable over the years and I have appreciated the

that is paSt0￿d by Jurgen and Leanne Matthesius. Thirty-Six years ago I preached in the
Snakepit Stadium in Wollongon8, Australia, and Leanne Ithen a teenager) received Christ.
Elghteen years later, Leanne and Jurgen flew to San Die80 wlth their young famlly and have
now planted elght congregations with an attendance of 12.1)Jo. It Is Incredible to think of
the fruit bom by those early ministry trips to Australla and many other countries In the'80s
and '90s.

There were 6,000 people In the congregation and it was a Joy to see many recefve Chrlst.
In the Bible, Jesus spoke to large crowds, but also in the homes of those he stayed with. Killy and I
try, where possible, to do likewlse. In one home where we shared the gospel. It was incredible to
see three people present receivè Chrlst. In another of these vi5it5,1 led a dottor to Christ followln8
a meal with friends. He was shocked to discover that it was Jesus who said. You must be bom
8aln,' and that thls was in the Bible. Rejoicing In heaven arrfl on earth.
Easter
Easter fell twice across th15 last flnanclal year and I had the privlle8e of mlnlsterlng In local
churche5 who used the opportunity to Invlte thelr local communities to unlque celebratlons of thls
festlval:
Hope Huddersfield120231: Ajoy to share the gospel with churches across Huddersfleld In
the Town Hall.
Landon Rlverslde Church12023): I delivered an Easter message in the Da8enham &
Redbridge FC stsdlum wlth the comblned Churches that make up London Riverside Church.
Soul Churth. Norwl¢h12024).. A prlvllege to dellver an Easter sermon at thls contemporary
church in Norwlch In their bran&new buildin8". 2,402 attended the two servlces, 69 people

Chrfstmas
We partnered wlth groups of churches Sn towns and cftles across the UK to share the Good News
of Chrlstmas. These events have not only been opportunlties for people to hearthe story and
meaning of Chrlstmas, but have also provided churches With the tools and relationships required
to host larBfr5cale event5 in the future.
We were delighted to partner wlth multlple churches across local areas:
Torbay: 1.200 people gathered at the Rlvlera Intematlonal Centre in Torquay. Devon. to hear an
e¥an8eli5tic Chri5tmo5 message.
Hull: 2,400 people gathered across 2 services to hear a Chrlstmas message in Hull Clty Hall. Twenty
churchesJolned together to host these carol serylces. which included a local choir and live band.

can share our faith.

The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The financial statements have
been prepared under the historical cost conventlon with items reco8nlsed at cost or transaction
value except for Investment assets, which are shown at falr value.
The flnanclal statements have been prepared to glve a 'true and fairf view and have departed from
the Charities IAccount and Reports) Regulations 2￿8 only to the extent requlred to provide a
'true and falrf vlew. Thi5 departure has Involved early adoption of the Accountlng and Reporting bv
Charitie5: Ststement of Recommended Pra¢tice appllcable to charities preparing their accounts in
accordance with the Financial Reportlng Standard applicable in the UK and Republk of Ireland {FRS
1021 foi actountln8 perlods beginning on or after l January 2019 rather than the Accounting and
Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended pract1￿ effective from l Aprll 2CK15 which has
been withdrawn. The finanual statements are prepared in accordance with the Charltles Act 2011.

as the Trust Is notlfied of sts legal entitlement, the amount due 15 quantifiable and its ultimate
receipt 15 more Ilkely than not. Tax recoverable on Gift Aidls accounted for sn the perlod In whlch
the related gift aided amount Is recelved and Included In donations with the orlglnal gift.
Empendlture
Resource5 expended are included In the financlal ststements on an accruals basls Includlng VAT
where this cannot be recovered. Grants are accounted for when paid. Certain expenditure Is
dlrectly attributable to specfflc actlvltles and has been allocated to those cost categorie5. Certoln
other costs. Irrecoverable VAT and staff c05t5 are attributable to more than one attivity. In these
Cases the costs have been apportioned to the individual activltles on the basis of time spent by
staff on matters relating to those actlvltles. Central sUPPQrt costs have been allocated on the basls
of resources used.

Tangible fixed assets are 5tsted at cost, less accumulated depre¢iatlon. Items with a unlt cost

calculated on a monthFy basis so as to wrlte off the unit cost of an asset, less Its estimated resldual

charitable objects at the di5cretlon of the Trustees.

The Trustees make transfers between funds when expendlturÈ is to be met frorn more than one
type of fund. The maximum level of these transfers is agreed by the Trustees prior to the
expendlture.

Cash and cash equlvalents comprlse cash on hand, demand deposlt% and short-term, highly Ilquid
Investments that a￿ readily convertible to known amounts of cash and which are sublect to an

Charity holds a fixed rate business bond, which. due to Its maturity date being within three months
