Trustee report 2024 – 2025 for Porthleven Companions, Charity No: 285463

Trustees Mrs Mandy Smith M/s Jill Green

The purpose of the charity is to provide companionship, friendships, and provide social activities, outings (including transport), general wellbeing, and support. This is open to anyone and is not by subscription.

In the year 2024/2025 the committee sought to purchase a new minibus to ensure the longevity of its transport for members. This took longer than thought and the new minibus arrived just after the 2025-year end.

Drivers and Helpers are volunteers who come forward after either seeing an advertisement or hearing about the club through word of mouth, we actively look for volunteers throughout the year. The minibus is used to pick members up for weekly meetings and weekly trips out.

We had some exceptionally good Thursday entertainment booked by our entertainment officer Sheila Cornish, which included, music, talks, cookery demonstrations, craft activities, games, museum visit, and other charities providing information on their activities. The two summer outings went well, a scenic train from st Erth to st Ives and a trip on King Harry ferry to st Maws, the weather being nice both days. The trips are planned and discussed with members taking into consideration their health. An annual Christmas meal is organised for all members to attend.

Fundraising: - We were invited to have a stall on lifeboat day, what a super day cakes made by members, Jackie in her element baking and manning the stall in her posh apron. All fundraising is used to help run the club and minibus. Other fundraising takes place throughout the year with, bingo, raffles, and cake sales.

Health and wellbeing of members: - The committee stay connected with members no loner able to attend, either by phone or visiting the at home or hospital. We had a sad year with a long-term member passing way, one unable to attend because of ill health and falls and two suffering from cancer. These members were all supported throughout.
