## **1. Basic Details**

Name Rotary Club of Cheam and Sutton Charity Fund

Registration No. 285361

Address 32 Manor Green Road Epsom Surrey KT19 8RA Trustees Mr Stephen Cunningham Mr Alan Lewis Mr Marcel Markan

## **2. Charity Structure**

The Rotary Club of Cheam and Sutton is part of the worldwide organization Rotary International and was formed by the merger of the Rotary Clubs of Sutton and Cheam in July 2016.

The purpose of the club is to provide support to other local, national and international charities and other needy causes. All funds raised for charitable purposes are administered through the charity fund. Donations are only made to charities, and other bodies were there is a defined need for funds and where the recipient, of the donation, is able to demonstrate an audit trail for the monies received.

The club generally support one or two local charities, nominated by that year’s President. This year the President decided not to have their own charity, so that funds could be spread across several projects, which the club membership decides by ballot, each members having one vote.

The trustees of the Charity Fund are the treasurer of the club and two members of the club, elected at the AGM of the club.

## **3. Achievements and Performance**

We give annually to the Rotary Foundation (the charitable fund of Rotary International) and to Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign and support projects or group aimed at young people including Jigsaw 4U, Sutton Young Carer’s Centre, Robin Hood Junior School, eight different Scout Troops, Sutton Air Cadets and Sutton Police Cadets.

Each year the money collected during our Santa Float collections, less our expenses, is distributed equally amongst the organisations invited to collect with us, based on the number of the collectors provides on a given evening, up to a maximum of 10. This year the money raised was donated to several scout groups across the London Borough of Sutton and in Banstead, Hosanna House, Jigsaw 4U, Robin Hood School PTA, Sutton Air Cadets, Sutton Police Cadets, Sing Out Sutton, Sutton African and Caribbean Cultural Organisation and Get on Downs.

In December 2024 the club was able to support Crew Manor School by part funding some Christmas Hampers for the families of their most vulnerable pupils and funded the Christmas celebrations of the Monday Club for elderly residents in Cheam, which the club runs.

The profit from a barbeque to celebrate the end of the previous Rotary Year and the handover from previous president to the new president was donated to the Sutton Volunteers Centre.

The club has funded several Aqua-boxes and Water Survival Boxes following the disasters in Turkey and Myanmar.

The profit from a fund-raising dinner was donated to Sight-savers UK.

We also had a stall the Cheam Traders Evening and the money raised plus money donated by members, and their families and friends was donated to Crisis and the Salvation Army.

During the year we made a claim for gift aid on donations made in the previous Rotary Years and which was allocated to the charities to which the donations had been made. These were Princess Allice Hospice, Home for All, RNIB, Alzheimer’s Society, Meru, Sutton Homestart, Diabetes UK, Surrey stands with Ukraine and Sutton Women’s Centre.

We also made donates to the Macular Society, Muchamp School and Sutton & Cheam Air Cadets Corps and Cheam Priory Day Centre.

One of our members celebrated a major birthday during the year and requested that rather than friends and relatives buying him presents that they donated money to Cheam & Sutton Rotary’s charity fund which in turn would be donated to the Rob Burrows centre for Motor Neurone Disease.

Please see accounts for amounts raised and donated.

## **4. Financial Review including details of the Reserve Policy.**

The Policy of the Rotary Club of Cheam and Sutton is to donate the money is raises within the same financial year, unless the project being funded is to be carried out in the forthcoming year.

At the end of the financial year £10,631.98 was held in the Rotary Club of Cheam and Sutton Charity Account

The reserves held in respect of the Rotary May Fair (£1,234.88) and the Xmas Float (£484.77) are both being used to pay for the storage of equipment used for both events.

The club runs a Monday Club for elderly people living in the Sutton and Cheam area where they can come and part-take in some light exercise and socialise. The reserves of (£273.70) will be used to fund future events for the group.

We also hold £3,738.51 from a legacy from one of our past members Gerry Nash. We have looked at two or three projects in in his memory, but nothing has come to fruition. We will continue to explore opportunities to do so in the forthcoming Rotary year.

The club holds a charity reserve (£946.25) which allows the club to make donations to worthwhile causes, but is normally used to support charities in areas where there has been a natural disaster such as an earthquake, hurricane or flooding and where there is a need for immediate support for shelters, sanitation and clean water. The reserve (profit) from the 50 Club (£2,343.17) is used in a similar fashion.

The other funds being retained are to be used to fund on-going projects in the forthcoming year(s).
