Structure, governance and management
-
The governing document is the Constitution of the Friends of St Mary’s Long Crendon, approved on 8th October 2017.
-
The members of the Committee, who are all trustees ex officio, are elected at the Annual Meeting of the Friends of St Mary’s. The Incumbent and Treasurer of the Parish of St Mary’s are also ex-officio trustees.
Objectives and activities
- Our purpose is to raise funds to assist the parochial church council of St Mary’s Long Crendon with major repair, renovation or re-ordering work in our parish church. This is done through organising a cycle of fund-raising community events in the village.
Achievements, performance and public benefit
-
In July 2024 the Jazz Picnic took place in the beautiful grounds of Tompson’s Farm.
-
In December 2024 we held the Christmas Tree Festival in the church displaying 40 trees.
-
In January 2025 we ran the Safari Supper which this year was enjoyed by 90 villagers.
-
In June 2025 we held the ever-popular FOSM Beer Festival in the church. The event was accompanied by a BBQ Burger bar available outside the church.
-
All of these activities have brought a public benefit to the village of Long Crendon by providing popular social activities which build the sense of community and solidarity within the village. This is in addition to the public benefit of raising funds to keep in good repair the ancient parish church, which is at the heart of the village in terms of its location, its activities, its support for a wide range of villagers at key moments in their lives, and its historical significance.
-
In addition to the fundraising activities, we are also very grateful for the number of voluntary financial contributions made by parishioners during the year. These generous donations are never taken for granted and very much appreciated.
Financial review
The charity received a total income of £68k in the year to 30 June 2025 including a bequest of £50k from the estate of a deceased parishioner. The balance was comprised of sundry donations and the proceeds from events held.
Expenditure of £58k was primarily a donation of £55k to the St Mary’s Church Council as a contribution to urgent roof repairs. The remaining costs related to expenditure on events and fund raising.
The net surplus of £10k was added to reserves of bank deposits and current account balance which totalled £97k at the year end. There were no debts during the financial year.
Although the charity does not have a specific reserves policy the Trustees intend to accumulate reasonable funds over time to cover the requirements of the church for repairs to the building and desirable enhancements as and when they arise.
