Minutes from the previous AGM held on 16/4/2024 were agreed as an accurate record. Proposed Caroline Lewin, seconded Chris Buck.
Matters Arising from minutes
- Valuation of the band Hall
Still in the process of locating someone to value the building, due to the unique roof. Ongoing priority for the new committee.
– Annual Report from the Band Committee J Dennett (Chairperson)
-
Nadine Clarke left the committee mid-year, so John Dennett took over as interim chairperson for meetings
-
John thanked the members of the committee – especially Lucy and her role as secretary and Alison and Chris Buck, who have developed the junior section of the band. John also thanked the committee as a whole.
-
Policies have been developed during the tenure of the committee – e.g., safeguarding and the Band Conduct policy
-
New uniforms have been purchased for the more informal band jobs
-
Summer events went well
-
2 concerts have been performed in Newnham Church and the youngest members of the band – Tegan and Oscar, performed a duet, and the junior band played at the Christmas concert,
-
Old People’s Homes were visited by a group from the band on Boxing Day
-
Recruitment and retainment of players continues to be an issue and a high priority for the band and the committee. There have been adverts on Facebook, and we are also relying upon word of mouth and posters. Players are needed in all sections and of all ages. Attendance at rehearsals also needs to improve, in order to attract new players.
-
During the regionals contest there were quite a number of deps needed to fill the places required. The band is now quite low in rankings in the third section and will need to improve this position in March 2026 in order for it to retain its 3[rd] Section status.
-
Band Hall upkeep – thanks went to ken Ewer for continuing to do this, as well as cleaning and the administration needed for hall bookings.
-
The saddest news the band had this year was the untimely and deeply upsetting death of Paul Cartmell – the first trombone player. The band miss him as a player as well as a true gentleman.
-
John is retiring as chair of the committee
