for the yegr ended 31 Juty 2024
The irustees present their report wilh the financial siatements of the ¢harity for the year ended 31 July 2024.
The trustees have adopted lh¢ provisions of Accounling and Reportin8 by Charities- Statemeni of
Recommended Practice applicable io chtsrities preFwing iheir accounts in accordance with the Financial
Reporting Srandard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019).
OWECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Public benefjt
The Trusi'5 main work for the benefii of the public is making donations and grants to other charitable bodies
in ihe UK and overseas. A list of the grants in the 1&8t iwo yeats is below {excluding money speni on art
edii¢aiion in local schools). In addition io ihe gifts from the Trusiees and the income from the Trusi's
invesimenis, the Trusi has received income from the sculpiur¢ show it organises every two years
(www.sculpiureatkinghamlodge.com) The show is part of Oxfordshire Anweeks. There was no Show in
this financial year. the next being in May 2025 so falling in io the 2024-25 Financial Y¢ar.
As the sculpture show is every two years. Ihe Irusiee5 have decided not to make larg¢r grants in the year of A
show but to also make granis in the year wilh no show. In addition lo ihe grants it makes io other charilies.
the Trustees have expanded their work wilh local schools. The state cU￿1cUluM no longer provides funding
for musi¢ and art in local primary schools and so the trust has been funding a programm¢ to assist art
¢du¢alion. 11 has set up a new operation under the name of Cotswolds Arts Through Schools. This brings
io¥eiher a partnership of I￿al arts organisations to work with the schools io ¢reai¢ ans ri¢h ¢nvironmenis in
the scliools. Ai the tim¢ of wriiing ihis partnership is now working With 50 5choo15 and over 7000 children.
The work involves a numb¢T of local anisis in running art clubs and providing an experience io ihe whole
hool each ierni. This is supported by teacher iraining. Ihe provision of syllabus sUPPOrt (Kapow or Ac¢ess
an) and of art maierials. A similar siructure is now working wilh music. inspiralional musicians do whole
school workshops and ihere is sMff iraining. We also provide insirumenis and in some c￿5 extra iuition.
We are graieful for the 5UPPOrt of other trusts and donors for this work. We are also grateful for th¢ support
of Kingham Hill School, Bloxham School. and Oxford Brookes University in helping to Irain teachers so
they Can use Ihe art cupboards we have 510cked in other lessons. Acad¢mi¢ work shows clearly the bei)efit5
that children d¢rive from an and music. li is noi simply th¢ stimulus to creativiiy and dexterily, key to
primary educations as this is, it is alw the pro¢ess of working tO8eiher with discipline and ord¢r {parti¢ularly
key lo music). The benefits lo children's mental healih are very rehl. Posi-covid children hav¢ become much
more addicted lo screens which are hugely dama8ing io developing young brains; the arts are a crucial
counterpoint. The Trustees are exploring whether other partners can be found to extend their work with
musi¢ education in lo¢al schools. in addition to the ballet added this autumn 120241. Since the end of ihe
financial year substantial additional funds have come to the T￿￿ee$ io expand their schools work.
The Trustees have complied with their duty lo have due regard to the Charity Commission's public benefit
guidance when exercising any powers or duiies to which the guidance 15 relevani. Accounts have been
prepared and independently examined in accordance with the law and guidan¢¢ from the Charity
Commission.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Reserves poliey
The reserves policy is to maintsin the expendable endowment in suitable ethical inveslmeni fijnds. The
Irustees are aware of the fact that the legat guidance io tru￿¢¢$. derived originally from the Bishop of Oxford
de¢ision, is unsatisfactory and offers insufficient guidance as to ihe investment policies they should pursue.
Al a time of climate change threats the trustees feel they should define closer parameters ensuring their
investments are noi contributing io global warniing in excess of1.5C or in any other way contradicting their
charitable objectives. Accordingly they are party to exploring how legal clarification can be obtained. As ihe
income is considerdbly more in a show year. which is every ttvo years, we keep back some from the y¢ar
with a show to spend in the following year. thus smooihing recipients income.
