Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 During the society’s Annual Report Period
(2024/2025), WAOS MT delivered a
programme of musical theatre that advanced
public appreciation of the performing arts
and provided inclusive opportunities for
people of different ages and backgrounds to
participate in high-quality productions.
·Staged two full-scale musicals at
the Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Woking —
Evita_and_Anything Goes— expanding
local access to well-known repertoire and
one (Evita) which is not routinely
available to amateur societies.
·Delivered a fundraising concert
celebrating songs from the “Golden
Years” of musicals (1930s–1970s),
enabling members to perform a broader
range of material and helping to raise
funds to support the Society’s charitable
aims.
·Difference made for
beneficiaries:Participation in
productions and events provided
structured, affordable access to musical
theatre training and performance
(singing, acting, dance, stagecraft and
teamwork), helping members to build
confidence, skills and social connection,
including opportunities for different
generations to work together.
·Wider public benefit:WAOS
MT contributed to the cultural life of
Woking by providing local audiences with
live theatre, sustaining volunteering and
community participation, and supporting
the local creative economy through use
of the Rhoda McGaw Theatre and
associated services. The Society’s
fundraising activity also helped generate
additional resources that can be directed
to charitable purposes.

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 £96,282.09 (including reserves)
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 ·WAOS MT holds reserves so
that we can continue to deliver high-quality
productions and meet our financial
commitments even if income fluctuates
(for example, where ticket sales are below
forecast).
·The cost of staging shows
continues to rise faster than we can
increase ticket prices. The main cost
drivers include significant increases in
Rhoda McGaw Theatre charges, higher
licensing costs, and increasing musician
fees. This can result in a loss on a
production when we do not achieve
expected ticket sales.
·New operating restrictions and
charges introduced by the theatre during
the period include:
·increased charges for,
and restrictions on, marketing
·a fee on programme
sales
·additional theatre
staffing charges
·prohibition on selling
our own tickets, increasing box office
charges
·In addition, WAOS MT incurs
increasing costs for storage of scenery,
props and set items. Storage rental and
associated building space costs continue
to rise, and suitable space can be difficult
to secure at affordable prices. Holding
reserves provides a buffer to meet these
unavoidable costs and protect the
Society’s ability to stage future
productions.

Responsibilities and basis
of report
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity
(“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/05/2025
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the
accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the
Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have
followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under
section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's
statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have
come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me
cause to believe that in, any material respect:
•the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of
the Charities Act; or
•the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
•the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning
the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and
Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the
accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as
part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection
with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in
order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
