Charity's Trust Deed. the Charities Act 2011 and Accountirg and Re[￿rtIng by Chanties.. Statement of
Recommended practi￿ applicable to tharit*s preparitvJ their accounls in accordanc£ with the Finanaal
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of IreLand issued in October 2019, the Finan¢ial Reporting
Standard applicable in the Uniled Kingdom and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 and UK Generally A￿pted
Accounting Practice.
Structurn Governance and Management
This league was fomied 75 years ago and Is a memtrer League of Devon County Associakn"on of Leagues of
Fdends and was regislered wilh the Charity Commission under referen¢e number 284014 in January 1982. It is
govemed by Objects and Rules adopted in March 2004 amended on 17 November 2014. 21 September 2015
and 14 November 2022.
The Chairty is administered and managed by the Ex￿e Committee who are listed on page 1. The committee
has met 10 times in the year. The main subjects discussed were requests passed to us by hospital departments,
sharing updated information on the current changes bthin the hospital and the way foThwdTd for the league within
the hospltal, the role of volunteers in the hoswtsl. al￿ requests fOrf￿di￿j from other organisations and people.
At the Annual General Meeting of the League, one third of the commitiee shall retire from office but shall be
eligible for re*lection. The committee may elecl any member of the League lo fill a vacanw on the committee
until the next Annual General Meellng
Existing Trustees discuss wth all new Trustees the objectNes of the Chanty and the role tl plays in the local
communty. New Trustees are informed about T￿￿tee re4￿nSibl￿.tie9 and handed copies of the appropr¢ate
Charity Commission paper*x>fk.
The Trustees have reviewed any major risks to the Charity and systems and procedures have been estsblished
to manage any of these risks.
Obl8ctlvos and Activities
The principal purpose ofthis charity 1$ to provide equipmentfor use in the l)ospitsl and hospIta￿based Communty
Services forwhich. we are infomied, fijnding is not avaiLable. To enhance these serwces and to aid new projects.
so, lo assist and support patients and staff to prowde a ￿nk be￿￿en hospital and public.
The League does not fijnd training or anything that it kncwts to be a statutory duty ofthe TrusL
When planning activttses and fvnding for the hospital and olher org8nisations the league keeps in mind the
Charity Commissions guidance on PL*)lic benefft.
Inv8stm8nt Policy
The investment objethe is to maximise the total investment retum wiihin a controlled risk framework, so as to
make specified fijnds available from accumulated income and capital for distribution each ye8r.
Achlevements and ￿rfornia￿ce
The league has continued lo be active both volunteering in the hosprtal and provirfing fundlng lo the hospital and
other org8nisations within the community. The infUS￿n unit fvlty operational and during the year we agreed to
fund a fijrther £10,622 worth ofequipment The stroke ward is keen to improve its physio depl forthe rehabilrtation
of patients And we have agreed to fund approximate￿ £53.000 worth of equipment. Finally, the last major
commitmentto the hospit81 in the yearwas the purchase land installation) of newtelevisions on the WaTds costing
in the region of £66,000. There was also a donation of £30.000 to Rowcroft Hospice for reclining chairs, a charity
many residents and patients of Newlon Abbot benefft from. The league also made a donation of £20,000 to
Ne￿￿On Abbot Community Transport towards the cosl of a new minibus. Amongst other things, these buses do
is ferry people lo Nevrton Abbot Hospital. Finalty, donalions of £4.319 were made lo Devon square surgery fora
new vaccine fridge and £3.224 to BASICS Devon for training equipment.
The League continues lo enjoy great and interested support from YO￿￿teerS. local public, local businesses and
the hospital staff. patients and ￿SitOrS. Once again vdunleers are in the hosprtal induding a very helpftjl meet
and greet seryice. Volunteers afe also on the wards provKJing a buddy semce lo patients who have few visitors.
The lea trolley has just recommenced afternoons a week atml is much app￿ciated by stsff and patients on
the wafds. The sales table is in operation. bn"nging the ￿ague to the publics attents.on and a180 raising funds for
the league. It is often the first thing people see sthen they visit the hosprtal.

Committee meetings are now held monthty (except for August and December). These are n¢)w held al Newton
Abbot Museum due to a lack of space at the hospital. These meetings a￿ an opportunty to discuss the work
carried oul in the hospital and any requests for dOr￿tiOnS.
As members are getttng objer, the league is activety looking for new members. both to assist wlh volunteering
in the hospitsl and being invofved with the committee. There are a wide range of volunteer roles, including those
mentioned above and ￿ w￿ld knve to have the tea trdley running mre days.
Procedur¢s and Poll¢y for Grdnt Making
The Trustees respond lo applutions as they rec￿￿ them, and wthere necessary, prior approval is obtained
from the Matron in accordance V￿th NHS guidelines. Certain other charitable requests are considered by
Trustees"as appropriate. All applutions for grants are considered by the Committee deade rf they meet
the objectives of the Charity. If they are considered to be in line ￿th the charity objectives, they are normally
paid.
Flnanclal Revlew
The league has recer¥ed very generous legacies this year. Interest rates have remained high and investment
income has increased In the year. Also. our har&working sales table ladies are back in the hospital and income
from the sales table has increased. It has continued to make grants to organisations connected lo the hospitsl
and potential patients of the hospital. The net deffieil for the year vtas £24,051, reflecting the high level of grants
made in the year. Investments have increased in value this year by £9.870. This gives a total decrease In
reserves for the year of £14.181.
R08•Th1¢8 Pollcy
The Charty has totsl reserves amountirvj to £1,193,579, £46 of vthich relate to restricted funds. These have
bulll up over a number of years due lo generous donations. The Charity is continualty looking for ways to spend
rt In aecordan¢e its objects, their aim beiro to reduce the amount of ￿selVes. The remaining unrestricted
funds can be used for any purpose covered by the obj'ects of the League.
The level of reserves run at a higher level thile the Charity Kjentffts applicabk equipment and projects to
fund in accordance with its stated aims and the donorfs wishes.
Plans for Futur• Periods
The Twstees wll continue lo encourage the ho$￿ts1 and hospttskbased community seN￿S to apply for grants.
In particular the league wll remind organisations that funds are avatL8ble, as based on prewous experience, not
every organisation is aware they can appty for funding. Information is posted on the leagues noticeboard al the
h￿pits1 of activities carried OLrt and donations made.

the Trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets ofthe Charty and tsking reasonable steps
