In the last year our charity has continued to recover from the effects of the Covld-19 pandemlc with more and mole
meetbngs bèing held in person.
The new Cost of Living crisis is affecting everyone In the UK and families afe more than ever in need of the free, up-t¢>
date and skilled support LLLGB offers - to help them breastfeed their children for as long as they ¢h005e. Breastfeeding
Is not only the most healthy and eccFfriendfy way to feed your baby, It is also a way to feed your baby free of char8e.
LLLGB provldes breasifeedin8 5UPPOrt and information wlth no cost to mothers. parents and families through our fac
to-face and online meetings, webslte. soual media. email, message, phone, and podcast. We depend on membershlps
and donations as our primary income Sour￿ to wver the various costs invofved In Tunnlng a national organisation, for
example our website running and malntenance costs. tralnlng our volunteers and paying for our two part-time staff
members.
Wlth fewer donatlons from families and general costs 8oln8 up, our total profit for the year Is down compared to last
year. We are in a good financial position at the mornent with a surplus from previous years and we are aware that we
need to concentrate on increasing our income in order to continue to be sustslnable long term.
We have several plans to 5UPPOrt a wlder varlety of communities in thÈ next few years. We have started multiple projects
to broaden our reach, Indudlng extra training for our volunteers. ¢￿atIng new and improved resources, updating our
webslte and launchlng our new podcast. We have many more eyciting projerts in the pipeline. I hope that we will succeed
in maintainlng step with modern need5 and expectations, and reflectlng and supporting fully the mothers, parents and
famllles that we exlst for.

addition to achieving sl8nificant tost savrngs and raising money in order io our financial future. This review looks

to the guidance given in the Charity Commission's general 8uidance on public benefit when reviewin8 our aims and
objective5, and in planning future actiuities. In porticular. the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to

As set out in the Artlcles of Assodation, the Chalr of the Trustees is elected bythe Council of Dlrectors (the Trustee board).
Each year, at the Annual General Meeting lusually held in Ocloberl attended by the members of the charltable companv,
one thlrd lor the nearest number to a thirdl of Trustees shall retlre, but shall be ell8lble for re-electlon, subject to
restrlctions placed on the re-electlon of Departmental Directors. Departmental Directors are Trustees who have been
elected by the membershlp to take ￿pOn￿bIlIty for desi8nated areas of the company'5 buslness and who may not serve
more than two three-year terms In such a position. All votln8 members are clrculated wlth IrNltatlons prlor to the AGM
?dvlsin8 them of the retlrlng Trustee5 and requesting them to nomlnate Trust￿ for electSon at the AGM. The Trustee
board has the power to Co-opt other Trustee5 during the year. subject to such persons then standing for election at the

ORGANISAnoN
The Council of Directors. which administers the charity. can have up to 13 members Ithe malority of whom must be
appointed from amongst the LeadÈr-members of the company). In normal times, the Council meets three time5 a year.
in eX￿ptIonal pandemic-related arcum5tances this is rePla￿d with more regular and shorter online meetin8s, reflecting
currènt difficulties in arran8ing travel and mana8in8 risk.
The Trustees manage the day-to-day operations of the charity. To facilitate effertNe operations, authority Is delegated to

Great Brltain, the charlty cannot place si8nificani reliance on income from donations, so one focus is on mana8lng costs
to ensure that our committed costs are not high. and that spending decisions and plans are based on available funds not
on expertation of future income.

charlty law and guidan￿, ¥wth the rlsks of non-compliance being both reputatlonal and financial. These risks are managed

trustees and our Company Secretary in attendin8 tralnlng where appropriate. We take legal and professlonal advlce

Our main activities providing information and support are described below- these are undertaken to further our
charitable purposes for public benefrt. We deliver services to many areas of the UK and are working lo increase our

mother-t￿mother support - We support mothers. parents. and familles through LLLGB Local Groups, our telephone
helpline, online helpfomis, online chat facilrty. website and a range of social media thannels.
Volunteer suppryt - The process to become accredited as an LLL Leader may take months or years and applicants are
supported throughoutthe process by their local Leadersand a remote supporter. Onceaccredited, Leaders are supported
by a l(xally based Distrirt Co-ordinator and our Leader Department Director,. there are also significant levels of informal
mutual support.

EDUCATION and OEVELOPMENT
Our Education and Development Department run a programme of antenatsl brea5tfeeding courses, whlch In the current
finantial year have all been provided online under the tltle of "Beginning 8reastfeedin¢. Thls Innovative offerSng,
provided at no char8e to farnilies. has contributed signtficantly to our reputation and to wide awareness of the support
we offer, and 86 Instsnces of the course ran in the finanoal year.
ADMINISTRATION and FINA14CE
Our only paid staff are our part-tlme adminlstratlon manager and bookkeeper. Further Inforniatlon on our flnanclal

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT
LLLGB supports mothers, parents and familles through tts local gTOUPS and Leaders. providing free In person and onllne
meetings. Leaders also provide supporton the telephone, vla helpform emails that are sent to our website, text message5
and on social media. Leaders also provide supp¢)rt on a one-ttrone basls. In person or oft vldeo calls.
Publlc Relatlons and Medla
LLIGB has been working to raise awareness of who we are and what we do at both a local and a GB level. We alrn to
increase awareness and accessibility of our GB-wide provision of b￿astfeedIng support at our LLL groups and by Leaders
in their communities. We have wntinued to explore and expand our social media presence as a way of leaching new and
existin8 audiences, and of raising the profile a￿1 awareness of LLLGB In general.

Social Medla
The social media team co-ordinates posts, memes. inforniation sharing via Facebook. Twitter, Instagram and
YouTube. We promote the infomiation available on ourwebsite, raise awareness ofthe presence of LLLGB groups across
the country, and encourage membership and donations. We also aim to encourage interaction and peer support and
encouragement across our channels.
Media
La Leche League GB has re￿iVed numerous media enquiries in the last year asking for our response to varlous news
stories about breastfeeding. LLL Lea(lers have taken part in severèl radlo discussions on local radio and natlonal medla,
and TV interviews. LLLGB has been quoted in articbes on the nattonal print media, as well as online media channel5.
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
Leader A¢¢redlt•tlon Department ILADI
The Leader Accredltatlon Department continues to work to secure the future of LLLG8 by working with Leader
Appllcants. This year there have continued to be many changes to LLLI documents and pr¢xedures requlrlng US
to continually update our GB documentstion and keep up with the 8lobal d￿fi8e5.
Eleven Co-ordinators of Leader Accre(Jltatlon in Great Britain land four ACL4-at-lar8e helping from abroad) are
5UPPOrting 105 Leader Applicants138 of them are new in this yearl. LLLGB accredited IS new Leaders in the last yeaf -
some who had only ever attended LLL meetings remotety through the pandemic.
The LAD department responds to those interested in leadershlp via our webslte, sometlmes leadlng to
appllcatlons.
Internatlonally. LAD15 invofved in twlce Month￿ meetlngs wfth the LAO councll and wlth the LLII Board.
Sharlng their vlews on policy changes at Board level to ensure decisions are relevant to our work here in GB.

Scottlsh Government Breast￿In8 Wme lor Gry￿rnment 2018-2023
In 2021-2023 La Led)e League GB recefved an addltlonal year of fundlng from the Scottlsh Government for two
projects.. LLL Group Development in kotland, and Peer Support Training Wlth Breastfeeding LENS Lld.
Since April 2021 La Leche League group5 in kotland have continued to offer support by phone and onllne lone-to-one
and meetings), and as of June 2021, in-person meetings. Scottish Government funding continues to be used to seture
venue5 for face-to-face meetlngs. CNerall meeting frequency across Scotland has intreased cofislderably as Covld
restrlctlons have allowed. The Be8inning Breastfeeding Online Course wntlnues to be offered by Leaders In Scotlond.
Slnce ApTII 2021 this course was led by Leaders In Scotland 23 tlme5 and has reached approximately 20 families eath
month.
This Yeporting perlod saw us contlnue our CPD for La Leche League Leaders and applicants. Scottlsh Government
funding supported them to attend the LLLI conference online in October 2021. LLL Groups In Scotland held an in-person
and online Scottrsh Spring Workshop in Glasgow, funded by the Scottish Government grant. The fundinB enableil us to
choose a hlghly accesslble venue and redeem iravèl and workshop Èxpenses to volunteers. This event was held entirely
online in 2020 and 2021.
The Peer Support Project wlth Breastfeedlng LENS trains local mothers to support eath other and prornote breastfeedin8
in an area in East Lothian with low breastfeedin8 rates. Thisyearthey increased the numberof groups meeting each week
and the number of trained peer supporter5. Enrichment attiwtie5 for volunteer peer supporters induded a talk by Prof
Hèlèn Ball from BASIS and an in-person infomiation erferrt.

Annual data show breastfeeding rates inueased over the past year. Prolect oversight is provided by Breastfeeding LENS
in cooperatlon wSth LLLG8.
With these projects LLLGB aims to contribute to the Scottrsh Go¥emmenfs objective of reducing the breastfeeding
attrition rate at the 6-8 week infant review.
LLL in Scotland is also proud to continue to be a part of the Scottlsh Government Breastfeedlng Advocacy Advisory

whether in person or onllne, and they can be a useful resource to promote LLLG8 membershlp. Breastfeedlng Matters Is
read around the world, although its clrculatlon Is especlally wlde across Brftaln, Ireland and France. Artlcles of paf4lcular

Leaflets Team: Booklets & Informatkm Sheets
LLLGB publishes over fifty different information sheets and booklets. These are for sale In the LLLGB shop as single copies
and bulk pads and packs. and are popular with parents, Leaders, breasffeedlng SUPPOrters and health professionals in the
UK and beyond. The text of many leaflets can also be read on the LLLG8 website.
Our Positioning and Attachment leaflet Is avallable for sale Sn ￿ndle forniat. Also available is the popular Full Sample Set
of all LLLGB publishe(I leaflets. along With a Complete Reference Set. comprising the contents of the Full Sample Set,
ready filed for easy reference. Parents attendIr￿ LLLGB Bwnnin8 Breastfeedin8 Antenatal Courses ￿ceIve a pack of
speclally selected leaflets as part of their course. LLL Ireland purchase and sell our leaflets and LLL New Zealind contlnue
to print many of our titles under licence.
A new Publicatlons team was formed this year, comprisSn8 of Bronwyn Dawes IPublicatlons Dlrectorl, Charlotte Allam
and Ellie Moriartv (both Leaders). The Publlcailons ieam are responsible for reviewing all new corstent, which is written
either by them or other Leaders. The Publications team work closely with editorial consultants. proof readers and
reviewers. Leaflet layout and graphic deswdn services have been pwformed by Bronwyn Davies Ileaflets coordlnatorl.
Thls year our leaflet. Safer Sleep, has been updated wtih the latest research. We have also published a brand new leaflet,
Uslng Donor Milk & Formula to Support B￿astfeedIng.
This year we have embarked upon a projert to revamp and streamline our leaflet collection to reflect the expectation of
modern mothers, families and supporters. A survey was conductÈd of the LLLGB Leaders and Leader applicants to ensure
their voice was taken into account. The new set of leaflets will be rewritten and redesigned in 2023-2024.

Any surplus income at the end of the financial year is donated to LLLGB. The 2022-23 tax year brought a turnover of
£20,166,12022 £ 14,2751 which enables us to Glft Ald a SLtrplus of £2,522 to LLLGB12022 £2,796).
All our products are In Ilne with LLL phllosophy. Our customer base Includes parents. breasrfeedln8 supporters Ipald
and volunteer), NHS trusts and other health organlsatlon5. Thewomanly Art of Breastfeedin& Sweet Sleep and
Adventures in Tandem Nurslng were our top selltng books. OUT leaflets Sample Set and Complete Reference Set both
also sold well. We work closely with the LLLGB Publications team to ensure we Continue to offer a wlde range of printed
breastfeedin8 leaflets and Information sheets.
We keep a close eye on prfclng and make adjustments, when necessary, but remaln committed to offering a good deal
on our products any tlme a customer needs to order. Unfortunately our costs for fulfilment and postaBe increased
signiflcantly durin8 the year due to inflation, requlrln8 US to review our shipping char8es.
We dld not attend any in-person erfents. apart from one local sprin8 workshop, le8dln8 to a slgnlficant saving in costs.
However we promoted the LLLGB Shop at some onllne events and workshops. offerin8 Items for their prize draws and
dlscount co(Jes.
We use a self-employed book-keeper. The remainlng admin tssks are shafed on a volvntary basis between the three
company dirertors worklng from home. Company dirertors Sue Upstone. Kate Wootton-Beard and Heather Blrt woul¢J
Ilke to thank Sally Harris and Suzanne Cohen for their ongoin8 contributions and all the Leaders who encourage people
